  • $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings were deposited on M2 high speed steels by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process, using a gas mixture of AlC1$_3$, $H_2$, $CO_2$ and Ar $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings had interference color and showed amorphous phase. $A1_2$X$A1_3$/($Ti_{0.5}$ /$Al_{0.5}$ )N double layer coatings were produced in the sequence of substrate $NH_3$ plasma pretreatment, ($Ti_{0.5}$$Al_{0.5}$)N depoition process, $Al_2$$O_3$ deposition process. $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings showed NaCl structure in ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N layer and amorphous phase in A1$_2$ $O_3$ layer. It was shown that $Al_2$ $O_3$ columns continuously grew onto ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N columns. ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single coating and $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coating were oxidized at $700^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$, 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, 3hr in atmosphere. At 80$0^{\circ}C$, single layer coatings were oxidized, which were examined substrate oxide particle. But $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings maintained the asdeposited state. Therefore, $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings have moreexcellent oxidation resistance than ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single layer coatings.X> 0.5/)N single layer coatings.s.

  • Hot dip galvanizing in the steel plant is one of the most widely used methods for preventing the corrosion of steel materials including structures, steel sheets, and materials for industrial facilities. While hot dip galvanizing has the advantage of stability and economic feasibility, it has difficulty in repairing equipment and maintaining the facilities due to high-temperature oxidation caused by Zn Fume where molten zinc used in the open spaces. Currently, SM45C (carbon steel plate for mechanical structure, KS standard) is used for the equipment. If a part of the equipment is resistant to high temperature and Zn fume, it is expected to improve equipment life and performance. In this study, the manufactured Ni alloy was tested for its corrosion resistance against Zn fume when it was used in the hot dip galvanizing equipment in the steel plant. Two kinds of materials currently used in the equipment, new Ni alloy and Inconel(typical corrosion-resistant Ni alloy), were selected as the reference groups. Two kinds of molten metal were used to confirm the corrosion of each alloy according to the molten metal. Zn fume was generated by bubbling Ar gas from molten Zn in a furnace($500{\sim}700^{\circ}C$) and the samples were analyzed after 30 days. After 30 days, the specimens were taken out, the oxide layer on the surface was confirmed with an optical microscope and SEM, and the corrosion was confirmed using a potentiodynamic polarization test. Corrosion depends on the type of molten metal.

  • Ground and high altitude simulated combustion experiments were conducted using a liquid rocket engine with hydrogen peroxide and kerosene as the propellant. A ground and high altitude simulated combustion test facility was constructed by installing a high altitude model diffuser and TMS (Thrust Measuring System) on a vertical combustion test bench. The thrust characteristics according to altitude were investigated using the combustion test equipment. The diffuser was designed on a 1:4.8 scale to verify the characteristics of the high diffusing diffuser and starting pressure. The cold flow tests were conducted using nitrogen gas, and the performance characteristics and starting characteristics of the scale down diffuser were verified. A diffuser and TMS were installed on the vertical combustion test bench, and the thrust correction equations for the system resistance were derived. The thrust correction equations were derived from the step test and vacuum step test before the actual hot firing test. Nozzles with an operating altitude of 10km were designed. Hot firing tests were conducted to analyze the thrust characteristics according to the operating altitude changes. The actual thrust was calculated using each correction equation with the thrust value measured by the TMS.

  • Tests using a middle velocity propulsion impact machine (MVPIM) were performed to verify the impact resistance capability of sandwich concrete panels (SCP) in a modular liquefied natural gas (LNG) outer tank, and numerical models were constructed and analyzed. $2{\times}2m$ specimens with plain sectional characteristics and specimens including a joint section were used. A 51 kg missile was accelerated above 45 m/s and impacted to have the design code kinetic energy. Impact tests were performed twice according to the design code and once for the doubled impact speed. The numerical models for simulating impact behaviors were created by LS-DYNA. The external steel plate and filled concrete of the panel were modeled as solid elements, the studs as beam elements, and the steel plates as elasto-plastic material with fractures; the CSCM material model was used for concrete. The front plate deformations demonstrated good agreement with those of other tests. However the rear plate deformations were less. In the doubled speed test for the plain section specimen, the missile punctured both plates; however, the front plate was only fractured in the numerical analysis. The impact energy of the missile was transferred to the filled concrete in the numerical analysis.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing number of ground subsidence (sink-hole) in the downtown areas, and in such a case, it is important to minimize accidents and passages through prompt recovery. With respect to the present recovery method for ground subsidence, the methods of applying the back filling after excavating the ground subsidence or using the grouting injected materials to restore the ground are mostly used, but there has been few studies on materials used for recovering the ground subsidence. Therefore, in order to clarify the characteristics of back filling materials used in the ground subsidence, this study uses the environment-friendly hardening agent to improve the dredged clay, and then, the mixture ratio of hardening agent and mixture ratio of decomposed granite soil is changed to cure for 3, 7, 14 and 28 days to analyze the intensity characteristics of the unconfined compression, and it was compared with the unconfined compression intensity for the previously used cement, a hardening agent. In order to evaluate the characteristics of intensity on the back filling materials, the C.B.R test was carried out, and for the review on whether the back filling materials influence on corrosion of water and sewer pipes and others, the soil non-resistance test was carried out. As a result of the test, for the case of the recovery work of the ground subsidence that requires urgency, it is considered as prudent if the hardening agents of 12% are integrated to cure for 3 days or longer, and for not having the influence on the corrosion of the gas tube or water pipes, it is proposed to mix for 30% or more of the decomposed granite soil. Door model test were conducted To confirm the bearing capacity characteristics of the solidified layer.

  • The performance and stability of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) depend on the microstructure of the electrode and electrolyte. In anode, porosity and pore distribution affect the active site and fuel gas transfer. In an electrolyte, density and thickness determine the ohmic resistance. To optimizing these conditions, using costly method cannot be a suitable research plan for aiming at commercialization. To solve these drawbacks, we made high performance unit cells with low cost and highly efficient ceramic processes. We selected the NiO-YSZ cermet that is a commercial anode material and used facile methods like die pressing and dip coating process. The porosity of anode was controlled by the amount of carbon black (CB) pore former from 10 wt% to 20 wt% and final sintering temperature from $1350^{\circ}C$ to $1450^{\circ}C$. To achieve a dense thin film electrolyte, the thickness and microstructure of electrolyte were controlled by changing the YSZ loading (vol%) of the slurry from 1 vol% to 5 vol. From results, we achieved the 40% porosity that is well known as an optimum value in Ni-YSZ anode, by adding 15wt% of CB and sintering at $1350^{\circ}C$. YSZ electrolyte thickness was controllable from $2{\mu}m$ to $28{\mu}m$ and dense microstructure is formed at 3vol% of YSZ loading via dip coating process. Finally, a unit cell composed of Ni-YSZ anode with 40% porosity, YSZ electrolyte with a $22{\mu}m$ thickness and LSM-YSZ cathode had a maximum power density of $1.426Wcm^{-2}$ at $800^{\circ}C$.

  • Fly ash is a material used as a concrete admixture. When fly ash is used for concrete manufacturing, it is expected to improve the performance such as reduction of cement usage and increase of chemical resistance. However, fly ash have some problems such as unburned carbon content and amorphous film on the surface of fly ash particles. When concrete is manufactured using fly ash containing a large amount of unburned carbon, there is a problem that the slump is lowered due to adsorption of AE agent. In addition, the amorphous film on the surface of the particles prevents the reactive substances from leaching out of the fly ash. Therefore, a method of surface treatment of fly ash using plasma has been studied to remove such unburned carbon and amorphous films. However, plasma has the problem that $O_3$ is generated when $O_2$ is used as an active gas. $O_3$ is a harmful substance and adversely affects the health of the experimenter. In this study, the surface of fly ash was treatment by arc discharge. Experimental results show that the unburned carbon is removed when the surface of fly ash is treatment by arc discharge and the amorphous film was broken and the reactivity was improved. Therefore, it is considered that arc discharge can treatment the surface of fly ash and improve the quality of fly ash.

  • To cope with automobile exhaust gas regulations, ISG (Idling Stop & Go) and charging control systems are applied to HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) for the purpose of improving fuel economy. These systems require quick charge/discharge performance at high current. To satisfy this characteristic, improvement of the positive electrode plate is studied to improve the charge/discharge process and performance of AGM(Absorbent Glass Mat) lead-acid batteries applied to ISG automotive systems. The bonding between grid and A.M (Active Material) can be improved by applying the Sand-Blasting method to provide roughness to the surface of the positive grid. When the Sand-Blasting method is applied with conditions of ball speed 1,000 rpm and conveyor speed 5 M/min, ideal bonding is achieved between grid and A.M. The positive plate of each condition is applied to the AGM LAB (Absorbent Glass Mat Lead Acid Battery); then, the performance and ISG life characteristics are tested by the vehicle battery test method. In CCA, which evaluates the starting performance at -18 ℃ and 30 ℃ with high current, the advanced AGM LAB improves about 25 %. At 0 ℃ CA (Charge Acceptance), the initial charging current of the advanced AGM LAB increases about 25 %. Improving the bonding between the grid and A.M. by roughening the grid surface improves the flow of current and lowers the resistance, which is considered to have a significant effect on the high current charging/discharging area. In a Standard of Battery Association of Japan (SBA) S0101 test, after 300 A discharge, the voltage of the advanced AGM LAB with the Sand-Blasting method grid was 0.059 V higher than that of untreated grid. As the cycle progresses, the gap widens to 0.13 V at the point of 10,800 cycles. As the bonding between grid and A.M. increases through the Sand Blasting method, the slope of the discharge voltage declines gradually as the cycle progresses, showing excellent battery life characteristics. It is believed that system will exhibit excellent characteristics in the vehicle environment of the ISG system, in which charge/discharge occurs over a short time.

  • The demand for high-voltage power devices is rising in various industries, but especially in the transportation industry due to autonomous driving and electric vehicles. IGBT module parts of 3.3 kV or more are used in the power propulsion control device of electric vehicles, and the procurement of these parts for new construction and maintenance is increasing every year. In addition, research to optimize high-voltage IGBT parts is urgently required to overcome their very high technology entry barrier. For the development of high-voltage IGBT devices over 3.3 kV, the resistivity range setting of the wafer and the optimal conditions for major unit processes are important variables. Among the manufacturing processes to secure the optimal junction depth, the optimization of the diffusion process, which is one step of the unit process, was examined. In the diffusion process, the type of gas injected, the injection time, and the injection temperature are the main variables. In this study, the range of wafer resistance (Ω cm) was set for the development of high voltage IGBT devices through unit process simulation. Additionally, the well drive in (WDR) condition optimization of the diffusion process according to temperature was studied. The junction depth was 7.4 to7.5 ㎛ for a ring pattern width of 23.5 to25.87 ㎛, which can be optimized for supporting 3.3 kV high voltage power devices.

  • With the increase in world trade through ships, the destruction of the marine ecosystem and socioeconomic damage due to invasive alien species (IAS) are continuously increasing. In particular, marine organisms attached on the hull surface and niche area increase the friction resistance of ships as well as the invasion of non-indigenous species, and causes a decrease in operational efficiency and an increase in GHG (Green House Gas) emissions. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has recently begun revising guidelines for the control and management of ship's biofouling, and New Zealand and California in the United States are already regulating biofouling management under their own laws. This study investigated the management status of the submerged surface of ships and marine organisms attachments on five international ships entering South Korea, and analyzed species group and coverage (%) of biofouling communities to evaluate the LoF (Level of Fouling) rank. Macroflouling was observed on all ships surveyed, and specially, the adhesion of macro organisms in niche areas such as bow thruster, bilge keels and sea-chest gratings appeared to be at a serious level. This study proposed the management direction our country should take with regard to ship's biofouling and the improvement measures for evaluation of LoF rank and inspection methods of hull and niche ares.
