Gas-sensor technology for volatile organic compounds (VOC) biomarker detection offers significant advantages for noninvasive diagnostics, including rapid response time and low operational costs, exhibiting promising potential for disease diagnosis. Colorimetric gas sensors, which enable intuitive analysis of gas concentrations through changes in color, present additional benefits for the development of personal diagnostic kits. However, the traditional method of visually monitoring these sensors can limit quantitative analysis and consistency in detection threshold evaluation, potentially affecting diagnostic accuracy. To address this, we developed a machine vision platform based on metal-organic framework (MOF) for colorimetric gas sensor arrays, designed to accurately detect disease-related VOC biomarkers. This platform integrates a CMOS camera module, gas chamber, and colorimetric MOF sensor jig to quantitatively assess color changes. A specialized machine vision algorithm accurately identifies the color-change Region of Interest (ROI) from the captured images and monitors the color trends. Performance evaluation was conducted through experiments using a platform with four types of low-concentration standard gases. A limit-of-detection (LoD) at 100 ppb level was observed. This approach significantly enhances the potential for non-invasive and accurate disease diagnosis by detecting low-concentration VOC biomarkers and offers a novel diagnostic tool.
Detection of gas leak from a tube is a very important issue in the quality control of machines such as the heat exchanger of an air-conditioner, because leakage of operating gas directly reduces the performance of machines. The acoustic emission (AE) method is a common way to detect leak of gas, however its application under the environment of mechanical vibration is restricted since most AE detectors are very sensitive to external vibration noise. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a method based on the mode analysis of the Lamb wave. In this method, the dominant Lamb mode and its frequency are found first, and then a proper band-pass filter is used to retain only this frequency component. In this way, we could improve the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of AE signal generated by gas leak from the tube even under vibratory environment.
A gas chromatographic method using nitrogen phosphorous selective detection was developed for simultaneous determination of haloperidol and its metabolite, reduced haloperidol, in human plasma. Combelen was used as internal standard, The method involved extraction and trimethylsilylation followed by the injection of $2-4\;{\mu}l$ of benzene layer, which was used to dissolve the trimethylsilylated derivatives of haloperidol and reduced haloperidol, onto SE-54 column [5% phenyl methyl silica fused capillary column, $16m{\times}0.22\;mm$$(I.D.){\times}0.33\;{\mu}m$ (coated thickness)]. The temperature of column oven was programmed from $200^{\circ}C\;to\;300^{\circ}C$ at the increase rate of $10^{\circ}C/min and also the temperatures of injector and detector were set at $300^{\circ}C$. Helium was used as carrier gas and its flow rate was maintained at 30 ml/min. The detection was conducted with nitrogen phosphorous selective detector. The retention times for combelen, reduced haloperidol and haloperidol were found to be 9.14, 9.75 and 9.99 min, respectively. The detection limits for haloperidol and reduced haloperidol in human plasma were both 0.2 ng/ml. The coefficients of variation of the intra-assay were generally low (below 9.8%). The mean absolute recoveries of added haloperidol and reduced haloperidol from plasma were 72% and 84%, respectively. No interferences from endogenous substances were found.
People currently spend more than 80% of their time indoors; therefore, the management of indoor air quality has become an important issue. The contamination of indoor air can cause sick house syndrome and various environmental diseases such as atopy and nephropathy. Formaldehyde gas, which is the main contaminant of indoor air, is lethal even with microscopic exposure; however, it is commonly used as an adhesive and waterproofing agent for indoor building materials. Therefore, there is a need for a gas sensor capable of detecting trace amounts of formaldehyde gas. In this review, we summarize recent studies on metal oxide-based semiconductor gas sensors for formaldehyde gas detection, methods to improve the gas-sensing properties of metal oxides of various dimensions, and the effects of catalysts for the detection of parts-per-billion level gases. Through this, we discuss the necessary characteristics of the metal oxidebased semiconductors for gas sensors for the development of next-generation sensors.
GIS(Gas insulated switching gear) is power equipment with excellent dielectric strength and is economy merit in high confidence and stability. Recently, because equipment of GIS was occurring problem of confidence used for a long time, partial discharge on-line diagnosis systems have been importantly recognized. Partial discharge (PD) detection is an effective means for monitoring and evaluation of dielectric condition of gas insulated system (GIS). The ultra-high-frequency (UHF) PD detection technique can detect and locate the PD sources inside GIS by detecting electromagnetic wave emitted from PD source. Therefore, real-time diagnostic system using UHF detection method has been developed for this application is being expanded gradually. However, the signal of partial discharge occurring in SF6 gas is very weak and susceptible to external noises which mainly consist of PD in air. Thus, it is important to distinguish the PD in SF6 gas more sensitively from the external noises. Unfortunately, these external noise signals and the partial discharge signals have very similar characteristics. Therefore, to solve this problem, we need the signal processing method for distinguish partial discharge signals with external noise signals for improvement of SNR(signal to noise ratio) and sensitivity. In this paper, we proposed internal signal processing method for removing external noise signals with built-in pre.amplifier and frequency conversion circuit.
Ag- and Pd-loaded $SnO_2$ nanowire network sensors were prepared by the growth of $SnO_2$ nanowires via thermal evaporation, the coating of slurry containing $SnO_2$ nanowires, and dropping of a droplet containing Ag or Pd nanoparticles, and subsequent heat treatment. All the pristine, Pd-loaded and Ag-loaded $SnO_2$ nanowire networks showed the selective detection of $C_2H_5OH$ with low cross-responses to CO, $H_2$, $C_3H_8$, and $NH_3$. However, the relative gas responses and gas selectivity depended closely on the catalyst loading. The loading of Pd enhanced the responses($R_a/R_g$: $R_a$: resistance in air, $R_g$: resistance in gas) to CO and $H_2$ significantly, while it slightly deteriorated the response to $C_2H_5OH$. In contrast, a 3.1-fold enhancement was observed in the response to 100 ppm $C_2H_5OH$ by loading of Ag onto $SnO_2$ nanowire networks. The role of Ag catalysts in the highly sensitive and selective detection of $C_2H_5OH$ is discussed.
The accurate detection of hydrogen gas molecules is considered to be important for industrial safety. However, the selective detection of the gas using semiconductive metal oxides (SMOs)-based sensors is challenging. Here, we describe the fabrication of H2 sensors in which a nanocellulose/graphene oxide (GO) hybrid membrane is attached to SnO2 nanosheets (NSs). One-dimensional (1D) nanocellulose fibrils are attached to the surface of GO NSs (GONC membrane) by mixing GO and nanocellulose in a solution. The as-prepared GONC membrane is employed as a sacrificial template for SnO2 NSs as well as a molecular sieving membrane for selective H2 filtration. The combination of GONC membrane and SnO2 NSs showed substantial selectivity to hydrogen gas (Rair / Rgas > 10 @ 0.8 % H2, 100 ℃) with noise level responses to interfering gases (H2S, CO, CH3COCH3, C2H5OH, and NO2). These remarkable sensing results are attributed mainly to the molecular sieving effect of the GONC membrane. These results can facilitate the development of a highly selective H2 detector using SMO sensors.

A new approach for the determination of acrylamide (AM) in foods by solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography (SPME-GC) was established. AM was bromized and transformed to 2-bromoacrylamide (2-BAM). 2-BAM was then extracted by a commercial SPME fiber, $75-{\mu}m$ Car/PDMS fiber, for GC detection. The influence of extraction and desorption parameters such as extraction temperature and time, stirring rate, desorption temperature, and time were studied and optimized. The mass concentration was proportional to the peak area of 2-BPA from 1.0 to 8,000 ${\mu}g/L$. The detection limit of the SPME-GC for 2-BAM was found to be 0.1 ${\mu}g/L$, and the recoveries and relative standard deviations for different food samples were 74.5 to 102.0%, and 4.2 to 9.1%, respectively. The presented method was applied to the determination of AM in fried foods.

In order to achieve timely and accurate fault detection of plasma etching process, neural network based time series modeling has been applied to reactive ion etching (RIE) using two different in-situ plasma-monitoring sensors called optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and residual gas analyzer (RGA). Four different subsystems of RIE (such as RF power, chamber pressure, and two gas flows) were considered as potential sources of fault, and multiple degrees of faults were tested. OES and RGA data were simultaneously collected while the etching of benzocyclobutene (BCB) in a $SF_6/O_2$ plasma was taking place. To simulate established TSNNs as incipient fault detectors, each TSNN was trained to learn the parameters at t, t+T, ... , and t+4T. This prediction scheme could effectively compensate run-time-delay (RTD) caused by data preprocessing and computation. Satisfying results are presented in this paper, and it turned out that OES is more sensitive to RF power and RGA is to chamber pressure and gas flows. Therefore, the combination of these two sensors is recommended for better fault detection, and they show a potential to the applications of not only incipient fault detection but also incipient real-time diagnosis.
