  • To investigate the optimum condition of 3-monochloro-1, 2-propanediol(MCPD) analysis, gas chromatography with electron capture detector was used. Determination of MCPD derivatized with phenylboric acid was more effective than that of underivatized MCPD. In derivatization of MCPD with phenyl boric acid, there were no significantly different between boiling for 2min at 9$0^{\circ}C$ and vortexing for 5min at room temperature. Extrelut column was suitable for extraction of MCPD diluted in 20% NaCl solution and recovery rates were higher than direct extraction of MCPD with ethyl acetate. But, the method of direct extraction of MCPD with ethyl acetate was useful for rapid ants qualitative analysis. The sample extracted in soysauce(ganjang) was derivatized with phenylboric acid and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass selective detector. That was confirmed as MCPD-phenylboronate.

  • Some $\betha$-lactam antibiotics-penicillins and cephalosporins-were determined by gas chromatography (GC) with flame photometric detector (FPD) which was selective and sensitive to sulfur-containing compounds. Methyl ester derivatives of carboxyl group in $\betha$-lactam antibiotics were prepared using 0.5Mmethyl iodide in methylene chloride and were taken for gas chromatography with 0.9% or 0.6% QF-1 on Chromosorb WAW-DMCS. We have found that it is possible to determine methyl esters of $\betha$-lactam antibiotics by GC/FPD.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the composition for pharmacopunctures of eight principles hydrodistillation layer. Methods: The study was determined the hydrodistillation layer for pharmacopunctures of eight principles by hydrodistillation method. The effective components in hydrodistillation layer for pharmacopunctures of eight principles were extracted with ethyl ether or dichloromethane, and then analyzed by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry(GC/MS). Results: 1. Analyzed pharmacopunctures of eight principles by GC/MS, a lot of differences according to extraction solvent by each pharmacopunctures of eight principles and specific peak patterns were seen. 2. The main compound in pharmacopunctures of eight principles was a kind of hexaoxacyclohydrocarbon that has long hydrocarbon chain.

  • Analytical method of benzophenone (BP) in sediment and soil was developed by gas chromatography/mass selective detector/selected ion monitoring (GC/MSD/SIM). The ultrasonic extraction of US EPA (method 3550B) method and liquid-liquid extraction for sediment and soil samples were used for the analysis of BP from sediment and soil. BP was extracted with n-hexane. Organic layer was washed with 5% sodium chloride solution. 1∼2 l of the concentrated solution of organic layer was applied to GC/MSD. The retention time of BP peak was 11.10 min. Recovery (%) of BP by ultrasonication from sediment and soil samples was 96.0∼100.6% and 40.0∼83.0%, respectively. Recovery of BP by liquid-liquid extraction was 51∼59% in soil samples. The detection limit of BP in sediment and soil samples were determined to 0.1 ng/g.

  • The exposures to carbamate pesticides (BPMC specifically) of agricultural workers were estimated by collecting pesticide in air by personal sampler and by analyzing with gas chromatography. Data revealed that the highest BPMC concentration in the aspirated air was $7.7mg/m^3$. Concentrations were generally higher in the group whose spray conditions were controlled than the group uncontrolled. Actual concentations were relatively lower than the values predicted theoretically. These findings suggest that personal sampler be useful in the estimation of pesticide exposure.

  • The prevention of oxidative degradation in fats and oils is largely controlled by the use of synthetic phenolic antioxidants. Antioxidants, BHA: 2-&-3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisol, BHT: 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene, TBHQ: tert-butylhydroquinone, PG: propyl gallate, PTG: pentyl gallate, OG:octyl gallate, were extracted from fatty foods with hexane and from hexane layer to presaturated acetonitrile with hexane. The polar phenolic hydroxyl groups of antioxidants were silylated with MSTFA and injected to Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry. The calibration plots were linear in the investigated range, 0.1~10.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g. The limit of detection for 6 phenolic antioxidants was 0.1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g. Recoveries and reproducibilities from samples fortified at 1.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g were in the range of 70~90% and 0.5~13%, respectively. The simultaneous determination of phenolic antioxidants in fatty foods using GC/MS-SIM mode and macro program was described.

  • The products from polymer pyrolysis at $450^{\circ}$ are cooled with ice, then liquid and gaseous portions are analysed by gas chromatography. Di-2-ethyl hexyl sebacate column, silicone oil column, silica gel column and tetraethyleneglycol dimethylether column, which was most effective for the separation of hydrocarbon gases, are used. Identification of isomers could be secured more effectively by gas chromatography than mass spectrometry. Elucidation of the mechanism for thermal decomposition of polymers could be done through the identification of pyrolysis products. Although more extensive work is needed, some patterns of polymer pyrolysis are discussed.
