ON GAP FUNCTIONS OF VARIATIONAL INEQUALITY IN A BANACH SPACE

  • In this paper we are concerned with theoretical properties of gap functions for the extended variational inequality problem (EVI) in a general Banach space. We will present a correction of a recent result of Chen et. al. without assuming the convexity of the given function Ω. Using this correction, we will discuss the continuity and the differentiability of a gap function, and compute its gradient formula under tow particular situations in a general Banach space. Our results can be regarded as infinite dimensional generalizations of the well-known results of Fukushima, and Zhu and Marcotte with soem modifications.

MERIT FUNCTIONS FOR MATRIX CONE COMPLEMENTARITY PROBLEMS

  • The merit function arises from the development of the solution methods for the complementarity problems defined over the cone of non negative real vectors and has been well extended to the complementarity problems defined over the symmetric cones. In this paper, we focus on the extension of the merit functions including the gap function, the regularized gap function, the implicit Lagrangian and others to the complementarity problems defined over the nonsymmetric matrix cone. These theoretical results of this paper suggest new solution methods based on unconstrained and/or simply constrained methods to solve the matrix cone complementarity problems (MCCP).

  • SF6 widely used as insulating gas is rising as the environment problem. For decreasing this greenhouse gas, electrical breakdown characteristics of vacuum with air are studied in non-uniform field. The gap of needle to plane was 0.5mm, 0.8mm. The pressure of vacuum the range of 10^-4-10^-5torr. The diameter of a plane made of the stainless steel is150mm. As a result of the experiment, the breakdown voltage is increased about electrode gap distance increased. The electrode material influenced breakdown voltage in vacuum.

Topology optimization of Reissner-Mindlin plates using multi-material discrete shear gap method

  • This paper presents a new scheme for constructing locking-free finite elements in thick and thin plates, called Discrete Shear Gap element (DSG), using multiphase material topology optimization for triangular elements of Reissner-Mindlin plates. Besides, common methods are also presented in this article, such as quadrilateral element (Q4) and reduced integration method. Moreover, when the plate gets too thin, the transverse shear-locking problem arises. To avoid that phenomenon, the stabilized discrete shear gap technique is utilized in the DSG3 system stiffness matrix formulation. The accuracy and efficiency of DSG are demonstrated by the numerical examples, and many superior properties are presented, such as being a strong competitor to the common kind of Q4 elements in the static topology optimization and its computed results are confirmed against those derived from the three-node triangular element, and other existing solutions.

  • Observable mathematical model of DDM (Direct Dirve Motor) was suggested. The motor that operates the object system directly is called DDM. DDM has many strong points, however, it has a significant disadvantage, that it is more sensitive to the external force than the motor with reduction gear. In other word, if the force is applied, air gap of the motor can be perturbed. This causes not only difficulty in motor control but also even more serious problem, such as the breakdown of motor. However, if the air gap variation can be estimated, it can help prevent these problems. DDM should be modeled to estimate the air gap variation. The type of researched DDM is PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and precedent model of PMSM includes only characteristics of electro-magnetic system and rotational motion. However, suggested model should also include characteristics of translational motion of rotor to estimate the air gap variation. Also, this model should satisfy observability condition, because state observer is designed based on this model.

  • A lot of researches on a linear induction motor(LIM) have been advanced to realize a traction system with high efficiency and performance for railway transit for a long time. However, most of them are limited in design of a LIM part such as Primary and Secondary. At a LIM which is traveling, the change of an air-gap(It occurs by a construction tolerance of a secondary reaction plate) becomes the cause which decreases a smoother ride and the efficiency of railway transit system. Therefore, uniform air-gap operation of LIM is important issue to improve the system efficiency. However, the researches which control the air-gap length of the LIM with technical and high-cost problem have been not advanced a lot. Therefore, in this research, it is introduced an air-gap control system for performance test machine of a scale-downed LIM which is able to control the air-gap length of the LIM and monitor a variety of performance changes of the propulsion system, and conducted a research on feasibility of the system based on characteristic analysis.

쉴드 TBM 터널의 gap parameter와 뒤채움재를 고려한 수치모델링 방법에 대한 연구 (A study on numerical modeling method considering gap parameter and backfill grouting of the shield TBM tunnel)

  • 쉴드 TBM 터널에 대한 2차원 수치해석 시 기존 연구에서는 뒤채움재 및 실제적인 내공변위 분포를 적절히 고려하지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이를 보완하고자 gap parameter 적용 시 굴착면에서 발생하는 실제적인 내공변위분포를 고려하고, 적정한 뒤채움재 물성치를 적용한 모델링 방법을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 단일층 풍화토 지반을 대상으로 gap parameter와 토피고가 굴착면의 지반손실량과 지표손실량으로 구성되는 체적손실량에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 그 결과 대부분의 지표침하가 굴착 직후에 발생하였으며, 토피고 및 gap parameter가 증가할수록 수치해석을 통해 얻은 지표침하곡선의 영향범위가 제안된 이론식보다 넓게 나타났다. 따라서 2차원 수치해석 시 쉴드 TBM 터널의 거동을 정확히 평가하기 위해서는 하중분담률을 이용하여 gap parameter를 적용하고, 뒤채움재의 물성치도 적절히 고려해야 한다고 판단된다.

AN EXACT PENALTY FUNCTION METHOD FOR SOLVING A CLASS OF NONLINEAR BILEVEL PROGRAMS

  • In this paper, a class of nonlinear bilevel programs, i.e. the lower level problem is linear programs, is considered. Aiming at this special structure, we append the duality gap of the lower level problem to the upper level objective with a penalty and obtain a penalized problem. Using the penalty method, we give an existence theorem of solution and propose an algorithm. Then, a numerical example is given to illustrate the algorithm.

A Processor Assignment Problem for ATM Switch Configuration

  • In this paper, we deal with a processor assignment problem that minimizes the total traffic load of an ATM switch controller by optimally assigning processors to ATM interface units. We develop an integer programming (IP) model for the problem, and devise an effective tabu search heuristic. Computational results reveal the efficacy of the proposed tabu search procedure, finding a good quality solution within 5% of optimality gap.

  • The problem of tension control in metal-strip processing line is discussed. A new mathematical dynamic model which relates tension change, motor-speed change and roll-gap change is developed. Through the computer simulation of this model, parameter sensitivity, the tension transfer phenominon, and static and dynamic characteristics of strip tension were studied. Guidelines are developed to help one selecting locations of the master-speed drive in multi-drive speed control for tension adjustment and reducing the effect of interaction between tension and roll gap control.
