Design of a Gain Scheduling Controller to Improve Pull-in Performance in Optical Disc Drive (광디스크 드라이버의 풀인(pull-in) 성능향상을 위한 이득 스케줄링 제어기의 설계)

  • This paper proposes a stable gain scheduling method of linear time invariant controllers for tracking servo system. In order to read and write the data on the optical disc, the pick-up head should be moved to the exact track quickly and follow the track immediately. Two different controllers are used for each moving and track-following. In pull-in period, a transition period from moving to track-following, the head might slip and miss the target track. This brings on another searching process and increases the total time. One way to avoid slipping is to extend the bandwidth of the track-following controller. But, extending the bandwidth could degrade the following performance. More prevalent way is to use one more controller in this pull-in period and switch to the following controller. In general, however, switching or scheduling of stable controllers cannot guarantee the stability. This paper suggests an scheduling method guaranteeing the overall stability not only in a generalized form but also in special form for SISO system. The sufficient condition is derived from the fact that Q factor of a stable controller should be stay in $RH_{\infty}$ space. In the experiment, the proposed method shows better performance than the switching method such as shorter time and lower current consumption.

Adaptive Fuzzy Controller for the Nonlinear System with Unknown Sign of the Input Gain

  • We propose and analyze a robust adaptive fuzzy controller for nonlinear systems without a priori knowledge of the sign of the input gain function. No assumptions are made about the type of nonlinearities of the system, except that such nonlinearities are smooth. The uncertain nonlinearities are captured by the fuzzy systems that have been proven to be universal approximators. The proposed control scheme completely overcomes the singularity problem that occurs in the indirect adaptive feedback linearizing control. Projection in the estimated parameters and switching in the control input are both not required. The stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed in the Lyapunov viewpoint.

The Stablity and Transient Response in the Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter (승강엽형 DC-DC 콘버어터의 안정도 및 과도 응답)

  • This paper investigated the errect of the right-half-plane zero on stability in the buck-boost DC-DC converter which is one type of the switching regulator and the stability region for the variation of the output current is obtained by evaluating the feedback gain. And it is clarified that the damping ratio decreases gradually by increase of the feedback loop gain and the regulation system of the converter becomes unstable, and from the transient response analysis we obtainedthe stability region about this converter. From above result it is known that the stability decreases by the existence of the right-half-plane zero. For the improvement of stability, we carried out one pole compensation in feedback circuit and obtained the avaliable stability region in relation to the gain bandwidth product from the stability and transient response analysis. These results were established experiment.

  • This paper presents a DC/DC LLC resonant converter with wide input/output voltage gain characteristics and its control method for efficiency improvement. For a wide input/output voltage gain characteristics without designing small transformer magnetization inductance, the proposed converter changes the topology into three modes of operation according to the main switch switching pattern. In each operating mode, variable LINK voltage modulation and frequency modulation were performed to control output voltage and improve operating efficiency. A prototype of a 5-kW DC/DC LLC resonant converter was built and tested to verify the validity and applicability of the proposed converter.

  • This paper presents the design of the feed forward controller to improve on the non-interference control performance of a single PWM converter in parallel for high-speed trains. The feed forward controller is designed to minimize the interference generated by converter switching in parallel operation of PWM converters. The gain value of the feed forward controller is calculated by inductance values of the input transformer. However, it is difficult to decide this gain value exactly because inductance values are changed by the operation condition of an input transformer. In this paper, the proposed design of feed forward controller can exactly decide the gain value using the leakage inductances estimated by detecting the variation of input current. the validity of the proposed feed forward controller is proved through the simulation results.

  • This study proposes a DC-DC converter topology of solid-state transformer for low-voltage DC distribution. The proposed topology consists of a voltage balancer and bipolar DC-DC converter. The voltage and current equations are obtained on the basis of switching states to design the controller. The open-loop gain of the controller is achieved using the derived voltage and current equations. The controller gain is selected through the frequency analysis of the loop gain. The inductance and capacitance are calculated considering the voltage and current ripples. The prototype is fabricated in accordance with the designed system parameters. The proposed topology and designed controller are verified through simulation and experiment.

Modeling and Feedback Control of LLC Resonant Converters at High Switching Frequency

  • The high-switching-frequency operation of power converters can achieve high power density through size reduction of passive components, such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers. However, a small-output capacitor that has small capacitance and low effective series resistance changes the small-signal model of the converter power stage. Such a capacitor can make the converter unstable by increasing the crossover frequency in the transfer function of the small-signal model. In this paper, the design and implementation of a high-frequency LLC resonant converter are presented to verify the power density enhancement achieved by decreasing the size of passive components. The effect of small output capacitance is analyzed for stability by using a proper small-signal model of the LLC resonant converter. Finally, proper design methods of a feedback compensator are proposed to obtain a sufficient phase margin in the Bode plot of the loop gain of the converter for stable operation at 500 kHz switching frequency. A theoretical approach using MATLAB, a simulation approach using PSIM, and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed analysis and design methods with 100 and 500 kHz prototype converters.

  • We design a CMOS front-end with wide variable gain and low power consumption for 5.25 GHz band. To obtain wide variable gain range, a p-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (PMOS FET) in the low noise amplifier (LNA) section is connected in parallel. For a mixer, single balanced and folded structure is employed for low power consumption. Using this structure, the bias currents of the transconductance and switching stages in the mixer can be separated without using current bleeding path. The proposed front-end has a maximum gain of 33.2 dB with a variable gain range of 17 dB. The noise figure and third-order input intercept point (IIP3) are 4.8 dB and -8.5 dBm, respectively. For this operation, the proposed front-end consumes 7.1 mW at high gain mode, and 2.6 mW at low gain mode. The simulation results are performed using Cadence RF spectre with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.)

The Study on the design of PWM IC with Power Device for SMPS application (SMPS용 전력소자가 내장된 PWM IC 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we design the one-chip PWM IC with high voltage power switch (300V class LDMOSFET) for SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supply) application. Reference circuits generate constant voltage(5V) in the various of power supply and temperature condition. Error amp. is designed with large DC gain $({\simeq}65dB)$, unity frequency $({\simeq}190kHz)$ and large $PM(75^{\circ})$. comparator is designed with 2 stage. Saw tooth generators operate with 20kHz oscillation frequency. Also, we optimize drift concentration & drift length of n-LDMOSFET for design of high voltage switching device. It is shown that simulation results have the breakdown voltage of 350V. (using ISE-TCAD Simulation tool). PWM IC with power switching device is designed with 2um design rule and Bi-DMOS technology.

Achievable Sum Rate Analysis of ZF Receivers in 3D MIMO Systems

  • Three-dimensional multiple-input multiple-output (3D MIMO) and large-scale MIMO are two promising technologies for upcoming high data rate wireless communications, since the inter-user interference can be reduced by exploiting antenna vertical gain and degree of freedom, respectively. In this paper, we derive the achievable sum rate of 3D MIMO systems employing zero-forcing (ZF) receivers, accounting for log-normal shadowing fading, path-loss and antenna gain. In particular, we consider the prevalent log-normal model and propose a novel closed-form lower bound on the achievable sum rate exploiting elevation features. Using the lower bound as a starting point, we pursue the "large-system" analysis and derive a closed-form expression when the number of antennas grows large for fixed average transmit power and fixed total transmit power schemes. We further model a high-building with several floors. Due to the floor height, different floors correspond to different elevation angles. Therefore, the asymptotic achievable sum rate performances for each floor and the whole building considering the elevation features are analyzed and the effects of tilt angle and user distribution for both horizontal and vertical dimensions are discussed. Finally, the relationship between the achievable sum rate and the number of users is investigated and the optimal number of users to maximize the sum rate performance is determined.
