  • The core services in cloud computing environment are SaaS (Software as a Service), Paas (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). Among these three core services server virtualization belongs to IaaS and is a service technology to reduce the server maintenance expenses. Normally, the primary purpose of sever virtualization is building and maintaining a new well functioning server rather than using several existing servers, and in improving the various system performances. Often times this presents an issue in that there might be a need to increase expenses in order to build a new server. This study intends to use grid service architecture for a form of server virtualization which utilizes the existing servers rather than introducing a new server. More specifically, the proposed system is to enhance system performance and to reduce the corresponding expenses, by adopting a scheduling algorithm among the distributed servers and the constituents for grid computing thereby supporting the server virtualization service. Furthermore, the proposed server virtualization system will minimize power management by adopting the sleep severs, the subsidized servers and the grid infrastructure. The power maintenance expenses for the sleep servers will be lowered by utilizing the ACPI (Advanced Configuration & Power Interface) standards with the purpose of overcoming the limits of server performance.

  • Grid provides a platform for the efficient execution of large-scale computing in science and engineering. In this environment, resource management and task scheduling are complex undertaking. We designed and implemented a web-based scheduling toolkit(GridTool), which can model a system and simulate scheduling scheme in Grid computing. The GridTool used GridSim, a toolkit in java-environment, as a tool for simulation. The GridTool is able to perform resource modeling, task modeling, algorithm compiling, simulation, and performance evaluation efficiently in web environment. The GridTool can be applied as a platform for Grid research and can be used to analyze the efficiency of scheduling algorithm.

  • A wind tunnel simulation requires high-performance computing power like supercomputers and deep knowledge of this subject. Those requirements make win tunnel simulation difficult. Grid technology will make these difficulties simpler by providing easy to use grid web portal. By using grid web portal, scientist can execute simulation and access to high-performance computing power without any serious difficulties. In this paper will present a grid web portal for a wind tunnel simulation that is used in Aerospace area.

  • The Grid[1] is a communication service that collaborates dispersed high performance computers so that those can be shared and worked together. So, the Grid enables a researcher to analyze a huge-sized problem which was impossible by using local resources. However, diverse communication speeds among computing resources and heterogeneity of computing resources can reduce parallel efficiency in the Grid, The present paper focuses on the development of an efficient load balancing algorithm suitable for the Grid. Proposed algorithm classifies the whole processors into several groups with relatively faster communication speeds. Computational domain is firstly partitioned to each group and then to the processor level considering the performance of each processor. Developed algorithm is validated in the homogeneous system by comparing the present result with the result of equally partitioned meshes and then applied to the heterogeneous system. Additionally, the present algorithm is expanded to be able to solve the decomposed domains and applied to some problems.

  • This paper addresses the issue of workflow on Grid and P2P, and proposes a layered workflow architecture and its related workflow models that are used for not only distributing workflows' information onto Grid or P2P resources but also scheduling the enactment of workflows. Especially, the most critical rationale of this paper is on the fact that the nature of Grid computing environment is fitted very well into building a platform for the maximally parallel and very large scale workflows that are frequently found in very large scale enterprises. The layered architecture proposed in this paper, which we call Enterprise Workflow Grid Architecture, is targeting on maximizing the usability of computing facilities in the enterprise as well as the scalability of its underlined workflow management system in coping with massively parallel and very large scale workflow applications.

  • Grid computing enables a shift from a localized resource computing model to a fully-distributed virtual organization with shared resources, Accounting is one of the main obstacles to widespread adoption of the Grid. Accounting has until recently, been a sparsely-addressed problem, particularly in practice. In this paper, we design and implement the accounting information gathering system. Accounting information gathered at each local system does not include grid-aware information. To be useful in grid environment, grid user information must be included in accounting information. To make it useful in grid environment, we add grid user information with PGAM. Implemented system is based on OGSA, following GSAX framework of RUS-WG in GGF. And the schema of accounting information is following usage Record Fields of UR-WG in GGF. Also, the accounting information integrating and monitoring tool for system management in the Grid environment are implemented.

  • Orthologs are genes having the same function across different species that specialize from a single gene in the last common ancestor of these species. Orthologous groups are useful in the genome annotation, studies on gene evolution, and comparative genomics. However, the construction of an orthologous group is difficult to automate and it takes so much time. It is also hard to guarantee the accuracy of the constructed orthologous groups. We propose a system to construct orthologous groups on many genomes automatically and rapidly. We utilize the grid computing to reduce the sequence alignment time, and we use clustering algorithm in the application of database to automate whole processes. We have generated orthologous groups for 20 complete prokaryotes genomes just in a day because of the grid computing. Furthermore, new genomes can be accommodated easily by the clustering algorithm and grid computing. We compared the generated orthologous groups with COGs (Clusters of orthologous Group of proteins) and KO (KEGG Ortholog). The comparison shows about 85 percent similarity compared with previous well-known orthologous databases.

  • Resource management in grid computing environment is essential for integration and interaction among heterogeneous resources. This paper discusses resource management methods of centralized and decentralized broker-based modeling for solving complex problems of resource management and presents design and development of the decentralized broker-based resource management modeling in grid computing environment. This model comprises a global resource broker and a local resource broker, and we derive reduction of communication and functional dispersion of Job management using a local resource broker. The simulation experiment shows the improvement of resource utilization and average response time and proves that this model improves utilization of resources and replies to user requests promptly.
