  • We have developed a L1 band (1575.42 MHz), C/A (Coarse/Acquisition) code GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver for precise time comparison and evaluated the performance of the receiver. The GPS measurements have been carried out between cesium clocks onboard the GPS satellites and the master clock of Korea Standards Research Institute (KSRI) using the GPS receiver. An accuracy of time transfer better than 100ns was obtained.

  • Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) provides GPS measurements to support high accuracy CPS positioning. The CORS improves GPS positioning productivity by eliminating the requirement for GPS users to operate two receivers. Previously, this is achieved by providing data from CORS to users in post-mission mode. However, the efficiency of the CORS will be maximized by upgrading it in real-time operation using RTK-GPS surveying because users can obtain centimeter-level accuracy in real-time without operating their own reference stations. In this research, authors extracted the arbitrary point's coordinate which is using GPS CORS data, now served in RINEX FORMAT via Internet, with observation network of the existing triangulation and GPS CORS data. And then, RTK GPS was performed with this arbitrary point as reference station.

  • In a satellite time management system, the GPS-based clock synchronization technique[1] has the merits of precision time management by knowing the time difference or the error between the OBT(On Board Time) of the internal processors and GPS time every second. It can be realized employing the DPLL(Digital Phase Loop Lock) and FEP(Front End Processor) circuitry for the clock synchronization[2]. In this paper, a refined DPLL & FEP scheme is proposed to provide the precision, stability and robustness of the operation, which is to compensate the errors and noise of the GPS signal, and also to cope with the case when the GPS signal is lost due to several reasons. The simulation and HIL (Hardware In the Loop) test results using the FM(Flight Model) in the course of KOMPSAT-2(Korea Multi Purpose Satellite-2) design and development are illustrated to demonstrate the salient features of this methodology.

  • In this study, a real-time architecture for the detection of clock jumps in the GPS clock behavior is proposed. GPS satellite atomic clocks have characteristics of a second order polynomial in the long term showing sudden jumps occasionally. As satellite clock anomalies influence on GPS measurements which could deliver wrong position information to users as a result, it is required to develop a real time technique for the detection of the clock anomalies especially on the real-time GPS applications such as aviation. The proposed strategy is based on Teager Energy operator, which can be immediately detect any changes in the satellite clock bias estimated from GPS carrier phase measurements. The verification results under numerous cases in the presence of clock jumps are demonstrated.

  • In this paper, the implementation of a tightly coupled real-time GPS/INS integrated system is discussed. The hardware is developed for any GPS receiver and any IMU. The navigation software is modularized by tasks, so that can be easily modified when the integrated system is restructured. A van test was performed to show the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • Real time monitoring of object position is very important in Customs Free Zone like Incheon Airport and Incheon Harbor because all logistics must be controled spatially for effective management. Real time positioning system using GPS(Global Positioning System) is apt for the monitoring of logistics. In this study, we aims to develope real time monitoring system for logistics using GPS.

  • This thesis is about the reduction of the power consumption in GPS embedded terminals with periodic position fix to improve the time delay of position determination. In order to improve time delay of position determination during the wireless terminal is powered on, it needs to be set such that it can be periodically recalibrated by the GPS and those recalibrated values need to be saved in the terminal's memory so that it can reduce the time delay from the request of location. By using the trace of the information that's been saved in the terminal's memory, it can be set so that it'll be easier to determine whether the wireless terminal has gone into buildings and have the capability of checking if it has gone into a specific building. Likewise, while the terminal is turned on, in order calibrate the location, it needs to continuously work the GPS engine which leads to a rapid decrease in terminal's idle time. This thesis proposes some solutions regarding these issues - reducing 20 ~ 30% of the battery consumption for GPS visible situation that can occur when the wireless terminal periodically calibrates its location to determine the in-building status, and extending the idle time of the terminal by flexibly using the suggested GPS calibration time method according to wireless terminal's mobility.

  • Every time laboratory in the world follows an international standard time scale and GPS (Global Positioning System) is playing an important role. Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science is also operating a permanent GPS station for time transfer. To improve the accuracy and precision of the clock offsets derived from GPS we used carrier phase measurements. In addition, we tested four different kinds of GPS satellite orbits and compared the results. The precision of the time offsets using rapid and ultra-rapid orbits was about 0.5 nanoseconds (ns). Tn the case of broadcast orbits, the precision was better than 2 ns.

  • The software GPS receivers based on the SDR technology provide the ability to easily adapt the other signal processing algorithms without changing or modifying the hardware of the GPS receiver. However, it is difficult to implement the software GPS receivers using a commercial processor because of the heavy computational burden for processing the GPS signals in real-time. This paper proposes an efficient GPS signal processing scheme to reduce the computational burden for processing the GPS signals in the software GPS receiver, which uses a fundamental notion compressing the replica signals and the encoded look-up table method to generate correlation values between GPS signals and replica signals. In this paper, it is explained that the computational burden of the proposed scheme is much smaller than that of the typical GPS signal processing scheme. Finally, the processing time of the proposed scheme is compared with that of the typical scheme, and the improvement in the aspect of the computational burden is also shown.

  • For real-time displacement monitoring of large-scale structures, the high-rate (>1 Hz) GPS data processing is necessary, which is not possible even for the scientific GPS data processing softwares. Since the baseline is generally very short in this case, most of the atmospheric effects are removed, resulting in the unknowns of position and integer ambiguity. The number of unknowns in real-time kinematic GPS positioning makes the positioning impossible with usual approach, thus two-step approach is tested in this study.
