Positional Accuracy Analysis of Permanent GPS Sites Using Precise Point Positioning (정밀절대측위를 이용한 상시관측소 위치정확도 분석)

  • Researches about 3-D Positioning system using GPS were carried out many-sided by national organs, laboratories, the worlds of science. And most of researches were development of relative positioning algorithm and its applications. Relative positioning has a merit, which can eliminate error in received signals. But its error increase due to distance of baseline. GPS absolute positioning is a method that decides the position independently by the signals from the GPS satellites which are received by a receiver at a certain position. And it is necessary to correct various kinds of error(clock error, effect of ionosphere and troposphere, multi-path etc.). In this study, results of PPP(Precise Point Positioning) used Bernese GPS software was compared with notified coordinates by the NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) in order to analyze the positional accuracy of permanent GPS sites. And the results were compared with results of AUSPOS - Online GPS Processing Service for comparison with relative positioning.

Improvement of GPS Relative Positioning Accuracy by Using Crustal Deformation Model in the Korean Peninsula (GPS상대측위 정확도 향상을 위한 한반도 지각변동모델 개발)

  • As of 2011, 72 Permanent GPS Stations are installed to control DGPS reference points by the National Geographic Information Institute in South Korea. As the center of the Earth's mass continues to move, the coordinates of the permanent GPS stations become inconsistent over time. Thus, a reference frame using a set of coordinates and their velocities of a global network of stations at a specific period has been used to solve the inconsistency. However, the relative movement of the permanent GPS stations can lower the accuracy of GPS relative positioning. In this research, we first analyzed the data collected daily during the past 30 months at the 40 permanent GPS stations within South Korea and the 5 IGS permanent GPS stations around the Korean Peninsula using a global network adjustment. We then calculated the absolute and relative amount of movement of the GPS permanent stations. We also identified the optimum renewal period of the permanent GPS stations considering the accuracy of relative GPS surveying. Finally, we developed a Korean a Korean crustal movement model that can be used to improvement of accuracy.

Assessment of Positioning Accuracy based on Medium- and Long-range GPS L1 Relative Positioning using Regional Ionospheric Grid Model (중·장기선 GPS L1 상대측위에서 격자형 지역 전리층 모델 적용에 따른 측위 정확도 영향 평가)

  • The ionospheric delay is the largest error source in GPS positioning after the SA effect has been turned off. The ionospheric error can be easily removed by using ionospheric-free combinations but it is only restricted for dual-frequency receivers. Therefore, in this study, the regional ionospheric grid model was developed for single-frequency receivers. The developed model was compared with GIM to validate its accuracy. As a result, it yielded RMSE of 3.8 TECU for 10 days. And L1 medium- and long-range relative positioning was performed to evaluate positioning accuracy improvements. The positioning accuracy was improved by 46.7% compared with that without any correction of ionosphere and troposphere and was improved by 14.5% compared with that only tropospheric correction.

  • Relative positioning technique by GPS that can obtain the high positioning accuracy has been used for generation of high precision positioning with elimination or the reduction of the common errors. This paper gives some algorithms for RTK and considers the filter to estimate the positioning information and integer ambiguities at each epoch in the whole algorithms. The extended kalman filter has been employed to estimate the state parameters and the modified LAMBDA to resolve the integer ambiguities. The data processing was performed by GPS single frequency and dual frequency in short baseline. The verification procedure of these positioning compared with results from Bernese 5.0 software. We presented some statistic values on positioning errors and the rates of integer ambiguity resolution.

Analysis of integrated GPS and GLONASS double difference relative positioning accuracy in the simulation environment with lots of signal blockage (신호차폐 시뮬레이션 환경에서의 통합 GPS/GLONASS 이중차분 상대측위 정확도 분석)

  • Although GNSS hardware and software technologies have been steadily advanced, it is still difficult to obtain reliable positioning results in the area with lots of signal blockage. In this study, algorithms for integrated GPS and GLONASS double difference relative positioning were developed and its performance was validated via simulations of signal blockages. We assumed that signal blockages are caused by high-rise buildings to the east, west, and south directions. And then, GPS-only and integrated GPS/GLONASS positioning accuracy was analysed in terms of 2-dimensional positioning accuracies. Compared with GPS-only positioning, the positioning accuracy of integrated GPS/GLONASS improved by 0.3-13.5 meters.

Accuracy Enhancement using Network Based GPS Carrier Phase Differential Positioning (네트워크 기반의 GPS 반송파 상대측위 정확도 향상)

  • The GPS positioning offer 3D position using code and carrier phase measurements, but the user can obtain the precise accuracy positioning using carrier phase in Real Time Kinematic(RTK). The main problem, which RTK have to overcome, is the necessary to have a reference station(RS) when using RTK should be generally no more than 10km on average, which is significantly different from DGPS, where distances to RS can exceed several hundred kilometers. The accuracy of today's RTK is limited by the distance dependent errors from orbit, ionosphere and troposphere as well as station dependent influences like multipath and antenna phase center variations. For these reasons, the author proposes Network based GPS Carrier Phase Differential Positioning using Multiple RS which is detached from user receiver about 30km. An important part of the proposed system is algorithm and software development, named DAUNet. The main process is corrections computation, corrections interpolation and searching for the integer ambiguity. Corrections computation of satellite by satellite and epoch by epoch at each reference station are calculated by a Functional model and Stochastic model based on a linear combination algorithm and corrections interpolation at user receiver are used by area correction parameters. As results, the users can obtain the cm-level positioning.

Alternative Scheme of INS-Dependent Positioning for Relative Navigation without GRUs (GRU 부재 상대항법에서의 INS 의존 측위 대체 방안)

  • Position information is important to carry out military operations. In general, GPS is used to estimate position. However, GPS is vulnerable to jamming due to the low received signal strength, therefore GPS can be easily jammed. The relative navigation is an auxiliary navigation system defined in JTIDS. When GPS is jammed, the relative navigation requires ground reference units on the ground to operate accurately. If the ground reference unit does not exist, nodes operated by the relative navigation depend on the inertial navigation system to identify their position. However, this positioning scheme based on only INS causes accumulative position error, therefore the nodes cannot identify their position accurately for a long time. In this paper, we propose an alternative to reduce position error generated by depending inertial navigation system. In order to verify that the performance of proposed scheme is better than that of the existing scheme, various simulations are conducted.

Generation of Grid Maps of GPS Signal Delays in the Troposphere and Analysis of Relative Point Positioning Accuracy Enhancement (GPS 신호의 대류권 지연정보 격자지도 생성과 상대측위 정확도 향상 평가)

  • GPS signal delay that caused by dry gases and water vapor in troposphere is a main error source of GPS point positioning and it must be eliminated for precise point positioning. In this paper, we implemented to generate tropospheric delay grid map over the Korean Peninsula based on post-processing method by using the GPS permanent station network in order to determine the availability of tropospheric delay generation algorithm. GIPSY 5.0 was used for GPS data process and nationwide AWS observation network was used to calculate the amount of dry delay and wet delay separately. As the result of grid map's accuracy analysis, the RMSE between grid map data and GPS site data was 0.7mm in ZHD, 7.6mm in ZWD and 8.5mm in ZTD. After grid map accuracy analysis, we applied the calculated tropospheric delay grid map to single frequency relative positioning algorithm and analyzed the positioning accuracy enhancement. As the result, positioning accuracy was improved up to 36% in case of relative positioning of Suwon(SUWN) and Mokpo(MKPO), that the baseline distance is about 297km.

  • Geodetic Satellite Positioning Techniques (NNSS, Transit, Doppler, VLBI, SLR etc.) still have much difficulty in surveying and necessity of point positions is being amplified in korea. Therefore some research institutes have being investigated point positioning using the GPS. In this study, 1 arranged the theory deal with point positioning using GPS carrier beat phase of dual frequency and estimated corrections of errors that be included in GPS observable. Also, 1 determined point position by the differencing scheme of GPS carrier phase, and analyzed the accuracy of point position. 1 suggested potentiality of geodetic point positioning using GPS carrier phase by comparing result of relative positioning with result of point positioning and analyzing result of network adjustment fixed any point position.

Analysis about Seismic Displacements Based on GPS for Management of Natural Disaster (자연재난 관리를 위한 GPS 기반의 지진재해 분석)

  • On March 11, 2011, an 9.0-magnitude earthquake occurred near the northeastem coast Japanese. It was the largest earthquake that hit Japan since the beginning of modern seismometry. The earthquake occurred 179km east of the Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, leaving about 27,000 of people confirmed dead, injured or missing due to the earthquake and tsunami. In this study, crustal Deformation in Mizusawa, Tsukuba and Usuda station were calculated based on GPS data in IGS station of Japan. The observation data were processed by precise point positioning and relative-positioning method using on-line GPS data processing services and a high precision scientific GPS/GLONASS data processing software. The coseismic displacements in IGS stations before and after the earthquake were analyzed using kinematic precise point positioning method, and the crustal deformation of the areas before and after the earthquake were precisely calculated using the relative-positioning method. The results of the study calculated precise coordination that the RMSE is maximum ${\pm}0.003m$, respectively and showed that Mizusawa station moved 2.6m southeast by the earthquake.
