In geoid modelling field, it is very important the GPS/leveling data because it could be check-out the accuracy of gravimetric geoid and computed the hybrid geoid. In this study, GPS surveying was accomplished in the test area including mountainous area to improve the GPS/leveling data density in Korea. And the geometric geoidal heights was calculated using the GPS/leveling data in the test area and the accuracy of the geoidal heights was analyzed. For this study, GPS surveying was accomplished on the 211 1st and 2nd order benchmarks in Gyeongbuk province and 198 GPS/leveling data were achieved after both baseline analysis and network adjustment. Geometric geoidal heights were calculated using these 198 GPS/leveling data and the accuracy analysis was done by comparison with the geoidal heights from EGM2008 geopotential model. The results showed that the bias and standard deviation computed from 190 GPS/leveling data after gross removal was -0.185$\pm$0.079m. And also, the accuracy analyses according to the benchmark order, baseline length, and altitude were accomplished.

The global gravitational model is essential for precision geoid model construction. Also, it would be used as basic scientific data in geophysical and oceanographic fields. In Korea, EGM2008 has been used from the late 2000s. After publishing EGM2008, new gravitational models such as GOCO02S, GOCO03S, EIGEN-6C, EIGEN-6C2 based on GOCE data were developed. Therefore, we need to verify recent models to select optimal one for geoid computation in Korea. In this study, we compared new models generated based on the GOCE data to EGM2008 and verified the precision of models by comparing with NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) GPS/Leveling data. When comparing EIGEN models to EGM2008, the difference is about 8cm. On the other h and, about 70cm of difference between GOCO models and EGM2008 has been calculated. The reason for this is because GOCO models have been developed using only satellite data while EGM2008 has been used gravity and altimeter data as well as satellite data. When comparing global gravitational model to GPS/Leveling data, EGM2008 showed the best precision of 6.1cm over whole Korean peninsula. The new global gravitational model using additional GOCE data will be published consistently, so the precision verification of new model should be continued.

The previous geoid model developed in early 2000s shows 14cm level of precision due to the problems on distribution, and quality of the land gravity and GPS/Leveling data. From 2007, the new land and airborne gravity data as well as GPS/Leveling data having high quality and regular distribution has been obtained. In 2011, a new gravimetric geoid model has been constructed with precision of 5.29cm which was improved about 27% comparing to the previous model. However, much more land gravity data has been collected at the control point, bench marks and triangulation points since 2010. Also, GPS/Leveling data having 10km spacing over whole country has been obtained through the project which is for the construction of new control points. In this study, new gravimetric geoid has been calculated based on the all available gravity data up to present. The geoid height shows the range from 18.05m to 32.70m over whole country and its precision is 5.76cm. The degree of fit and precision of hybrid geoid model are 3.60cm and 4.06cm, respectively. At the end, 3.35cm of the relative precision in 15km baseline has been calculated to confirm its practical usage. Especially, it has been founded that regional bias occurred at the Kangwon and coastal area due to problems on the leveling data. Also, some inland points show inconsistent large difference which needs to be verified by analyzing the unified control points results.

In this study, we suggested the period of tide observations is proper to calculate the mean sea level(MSL) precisely on Incheon tide station using wavelet analysis, and newly determined then the vertical reference surface of Korea using the calculated MSL. In order to calculate the height difference between the calculated MSL and specific ground station (ICGP) near the Incheon tide stations, we performed the laser measurements directly to the sea surface where located below ICGP. The orthometric-height of ICGP was determined that corrected the height difference to the calculated MSL using linear interpolation method. Finally, we connected the orthometric-height of ICGP with the original benchmark (ORBM) using GPS leveling methods for determining the new orthometric-height of ORBM. As the results, there is a variation amount of 0.026m between the new MSL was calculated in this study and old MSL was calculated in 1910's. Also, there is a difference of 0.035m between the new and old orthometric-heights of ORBM. The connection (or leveling) error of 0.009m was revealed in new orthometric height of ORBM with consideration of MSL variation which may caused by the error of GPS ellipsoid height and/or geoid model. In this study, we could be determined precisely the orthometric-height of ORBM based on the new MSL of Incheon Bay using only GPS leveling method, not a spirit leveling method. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the vertical datum strictly using long-term and continuously tide observations more than 19 years and to use the GPS leveling method widely in the height leveling work for the effective changeover from the orthonormal to the orthometric in national height system.

The geoid is the level surface that closely approximates mean sea level and usually used for the origin of vertical datum. For the computation of geoid, various sources of gravity measurements are used in South Korea and, as a consequence, the geoid models may show different results. however, a limited analysis has been performed due to a lack of controlled data, namely the GPS/Leveling data. Therefore, in this study, the gravimetric geoids are compared with the geodetic geoid which is obtained through the GPS/Leveling procedures. The gravimetric geoids are categorized into geoid from airborne gravimetry, geoid from the terrestrial gravimetry, NGII geoid(geoids published by National Geographic Information Institute) and NORI geoid(geoi published by National Oceanographic Research Institute), respectively. For the analysis, the geometric geoid is obtained at each unified national control point and the difference between geodetic and gravimetric geoid is computed. Also, the geoid height data is gridded on a regular $10{\times}10-km$ grid so that the FFT method can be applied to analyze the geoid height differences in frequency domain. The results show that no significant differences in standard deviation are observed when the geoids from the airborne and terrestrial gravimetry are compared with the geomertric geoid while relatively large difference are shown when NGII geoid and NORI geoid are compared with geometric geoid. Also, NGII geoid and NORI geoid are analyzed in frequency domain and the deviations occurs in long-wavelength domain.

To utilize the survey method using the geodetic satellite GPS, we tried to analysis the GPS/Leveling and the geopotential model of the 26 GPS observation points including 23 BM and 3 triangulation points with approximately 16-km interval selected from the Andong geographic map with a scale of 1:250,000. The average deviations of the geopotential model calculated from the results of analysis to the GPS/Leveling and the previously developed geopotential models(EGM96, OSU91A, and KGEOID), are 0.493 m, 0.277 m, and 0.195 m, respectively and RMS errors are $\pm$0.299 m, $\pm$0.152 m, and $\pm$ 0.133 m. The general trend of geoid undulations, however, shows an increasing pattern to the NW-SE direction. It has been also reported that the geoid undulation related with topographic-highs and geoid-highs although very poor relationship is shown in this area.

Determining accurate geoid height is very important because it is the basis of the 3-D coordinate transformation and determination of the orthometric height. In this study, for determining the geoid height, bi-linear method grounded on the interpolation method, GPS leveling and OSU91A was applied to the $5km{\times}5km$ area and $60km{\times}60km$ area in the latitude $N\;36^{\circ}{\sim}37^{\circ}$ and the longitude $E\;127^{\circ}{\sim}128^{\circ}$. The results obtained by these methods were compared with conventional leveling data. In case of bi-linear method, it was dependent upon the shape of interpolation network and undulation of ground. If leveling data are satisfactory, GPS leveling is more proper than any other method. Also, it is 62 cm that an average difference of GPS leveling and OSU91A. As a result, in order to determine more precise geoid height, the development of local geoid model is a pressing problem to be solved. The result of the research will provide reference data for settling the 3-D coordinate transformation, and it is expected that it will also be applied to determination of 3-D position.
This paper evaluated applicability of railroad reference points for determinating geoid heights. For this research, reference points on the Honam express raildroad which contain ellipsoid heights estimated by GPS/Leveling and orthometric heights by leveling were used. Geoid heights were calculated uisng orthometric and ellipsoid heights of 360 railroad reference points, and the RMSE's with respect to different intervals of reference points were analysed which were induced by interpolation methods. The results showed that no significant difference of RMSE's among interpolation. methods. RMSE's of 0-4km interval of reference points were determined within 2cm and 5-8km were within 3cm. Also, this research confirmed that GPS leveling with Geoid model is not auurate enough to be used for railroad surveying as yet.

Nowadays, the accuracy of the geoid model has been improved through development of the combination model which was composed of traditional gravimetric geoid and geometric geoid by the GPS/leveling data in USA and Japan. It is a state of the art method in geoid modeling field that what so called hybrid geoid. In this paper, as a basic study to develop Korean hybrid geoid model, we studied gravimetric geoid solutions using three gravity reduction methods (Helmert's condensation method, RTM method and Airy-isostatic method) and evaluated the usefulness of each method in context of precise geoid. The gravimetric geoid model were determined by restoring the gravity anomalies (included TC) and the indirect effects were made from various reduction methods on the EIGEN-CG03C reference field. The results are compared with respect to the geometric geoid undulation determined from 498 GPS/leveling after LSC fitting. The results showed that hybrid geoid with RTM (Residual terrain model) reduction method was most accurate method and the value of the difference compared to geometric geoid was $0.001{\pm}0.053m$.
