A Study on the Definition and Reception of the Terminus Technicus Architektonike through Architecture and Geonchuk in the Architectural Theory ('건축(建築)'과 '아키텍처(Architecture)'에서 아르키텍토니케(Architektonike) 개념의 수용에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to get a more fundamental definition of the term Architecture and Geonchuk through analyzing the origin and reception of the terminus technicus Architektonike. In Latin world the greek term Architektonike was adopted and replaced the term Constructio by Vitruvius and has played a significant role in the history of architecture. In the late 19th Century however, the word Architecture was translated into Geonchuk(建築) and has been dominantly used in countries such as Korea, Japan, and China. But the difference of the denotation between them has not yet been fully evaluated. The term Geonchuk signifies much the same as the Tektonik and remains as such in the architectural discourse. In this context, this study goes back to refer to the philosophy of Metaphysics by Aristotle. In his book the term Architektonike was defined for the first time as terminus technicus, and the philosophies in later Ages of Leibniz or of Kant adopted it to signify the world view in accordance with the time. However, the original thought of the Architektonike disappeared in architectural practice and has been used in most cases as a substitute for Oikodomike which denotes house-building. The usage of this word in later time shows that it lost its foundation to be interpreted not only in terms of principium cognoscendi, but also in terms of principium reale. From this the literal usage of the term architecture and Geonchuk has seldom to do with its original meaning and denotation of Architektonike and also they lost the status of terminus technicus for the discourse of arche which encompasses the meaning of both principle and universal order.

  • The study is to suggest the example of convergence capstone design operation in department of early childhood education at a college and intellectual property rights application and registration. Based on key experiences such as practical training, students derived ideas for solving problems across the field related to young child, and overlaps with existing intellectual property rights ideas were verified. Linkage with industry and engineering experts was established for mentoring, after going through a refinement process, it contains the process by which five teams among the winning works of the school competition achieved the result of patent application and registration. Through this, we revitalize convergence capstone design education that goes beyond a creative and practical competency-centered curriculum and is linked to the performance of securing intellectual property rights.

Distribution of Indicator Organisms and Influence of Storage Temperature and Period in Commercial Plant Food (시판 식물성 식품의 오염지표세균 분포 및 저장온도, 기간별 오염지표세균의 변화)

  • There were few data for the distribution of the indicator organisms in the commercial plant foods, and for the normal flora and for the foodborne agents within the country. First of all it must be investigated the distribution of the indicator organisms. And also it is very important to prepare the sanitation criteria for the plant foods through the microbiological examination and the investigation of tendency to change of the indicator organisms according to the storage temperature and period. The average number of total viable counts for grains was 2.9$\times$105/g, psychrophilic bacteria 2.9$\times$105/g, heterotrophic bacteria 3.1$\times$105/g, heat-resistant bacteria 2.1$\times$103/g, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 23/g. That for beans was 6.3$\times$102/g, psychrophile 34/g, heterotroph 1.7$\times$102/g. That for sesames was 1.4$\times$105/g, coliform 350/g, psychrophile 7.4$\times$104/g, heterotroph 5.8$\times$104/g, Pseud. aeruginosa 2.3$\times$103/g. heat-resistant bacteria 150/g. That for potatoes was 2.0$\times$107/g, coliform 5.0$\times$104/g, psychrophile 1.8$\times$107, heterotroph 1.4$\times$107/g, heat-resistant bacteria 3.3$\times$104/, Staphylococcus 2.7$\times$105/g, fecal streptococcus 4.5$\times$103/g, Pseud. aeruginosa 7.0$\times$103/g. That for mushrooms was 1.2$\times$108/g, psychrophile 9.4$\times$107/g, heterotroph 1.0$\times$109/g, heat-resistant bacteria 1.6$\times$105/g, Pseud. aeruginosa 1.3$\times$103/g. That for vegetables was 5.9$\times$1011/g, coliform 1.8$\times$106g/, Staphylococcus 1.1$\times$1012/g, heterotroph 8.4$\times$1011/g, heat-resistant bacteria 7.6$\times$106/g, Staphylococcus 1.1$\times$107/g, fecal streptococcus 1.1$\times$104/g, Pseud. aerugniosa 5.2$\times$104/g. That for nuts 3.9$\times$104/g, coliform 3.9$\times$103/g, psychrophile 4.0$\times$104/g, heterotroph 3.2$\times$104/g, heat-resistant bacteria 400/g. In commercial grains and beans, SPC, psychrophile, heterotroph and heat-resistant bacteria stored at 1$0^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$, 3$0^{\circ}C$ were constant. Staphylococcus, coliform, Pseud. aeruginosa were decreased a little n grains, but were not detected in beans. In mushrooms, all indicator organisms were increased as time goes on and were increased rapidly at 2$0^{\circ}C$. In sesames, coliform was not detected at all temperature. psychrophile was increased for 7 days, the others were constant. In potatoes, SPC, psychrophile, heat-resistant bacteria, heterotroph had a tendency to increase and the others were constant. In vegetables, indicator organisms were had a tendency to increase, psychrophile, heterotroph were rapidly increased after 7 days. In nuts, SPC, coliform, psychrophile heterotroph, heat-resistant bacteria, Pseud. aeruginosa were constant, staphylococcus and fecal streptococcus were not detected.

  • The fresh_water shrimp, Palaemon modestua is one of the most important types of bait f[r fishing and can be found abundantly in the Nak-Dong River. The larval development of Palaemon modestua in the laboratory was reported by Liu (1949), Kown and Uno (1968), but they didn't give any ecological features in the natural environments. Shrimps were collected from the Nak-Dong River near Pusan, once a month from July to December 1953 and from February to June 1969 respectively. The following is a summary of the results: 1. They breed from April to September, mainly in July. 2. A generation of this type of shrimps appears to be approximately one year and after breeding they die off up untill the end of October. 3. The sex ratio (female=100) is $44.2\~95.5$ (mean 78.5) and goes down during spawning seasons. 4. The minimum size of the ovigerous female is approximately 0.5 gram in body weight, 29mm in body length and 7mm in carapace length. 5. Most shrimps of $31\~41mm$ In body length lay eggs. 6. The relationship between the boby length (X) and the number of eggs (Y) is: $$Y=0.0000203937X^{3.5668}$$ 7. The relationship between the body length (X) and the body weight (Y) is: $$Y=0.099801X^{2.85407}$$ in female. $$Y=0.004198X^{3.40614}$$ in Male. 8. The relationship between the carapace length (X) and the body weight (Y) is: $$Y=5.56008X^{2.25503}$$ in female. $$Y=5.09541X^{2.28875}$$ in male. 9. The relationship between the carapace length (X) and the body length (Y) is: Y= 5.07540+3.36057X in female. Y=4.90514+3.47791X in male.

  • In order to understand microbial ecosystem in the fast china sea and Yosu coastal sea horizontal distributions of bacterial flora, Vibrio spp., coliform group, temperature, and salinity in this sea area, were studied 42 sampling stations during 6th-l4th August, 1992. From the results, salinity and temperature were $24.64\~33.78\%_{\circ}$ and $22.53\~29.18^{\circ}C$, respectively. As the open sea far from land goes on, salinity became low while temperature became high. Viable cell counts of bacteral flova, Vibrio spp., and roliform group in Yosu coastal sea water were $1.0\times10^2\~3.0\times10^4/ml,\;0.2\times10\~9.0\times10^3/ml,\;and\;0.3\times10\~3.0\times10^3/ml$ while those of these in the open sea water were $0.4\times10\~2.0\times10^3/ml,\;0.8\times10\~3.0\times10/ml,\;and\;0.9\times10\~1.3\times10/ml$, respectively.

The Voice Change after Conservative Laryngeal Surgery (조기 후두암 환자에서 보전적 후두수술 후 음성 변화)

  • Objectives : The total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer has made patients be afraid of voice loss. Early staged glottic or supraglottic cancer can be treated with conservative laryngeal surgery which preserve voice, though which was not normal voice comparing before. Voice analysis is used to evaluates objectively the quality of the voice in pre- and postoperation, 4 different types of conservative laryngeal surgery : laser cordectomy, supracticoid partial laryngectomy, vertical partial laryngectomy, and supralottic laryngectomy. Materials and Methods : The patients who received conservative laryngeal surgery(laser cordectomy : 23 cases, vertical partial laryngecotmy : 9cases, supracriocoid partial laryngectomy : 6cases, supraglottic laryngectomy : 8cases) from 1995 to 2001 in the Asan medical center. Fundamental frequency(F0), shimmer, jitter, noise to harmony ratio(NHR), maximum comfortable phonation time and subglottic pressure were used as parameters for voice analysis. Results : The patients who received laser cordectomy(shimmer : 5.26${\pm}$1.12%, jitter : 3.33${\pm}$0.42%, NHR : 0.47${\pm}$0.02, MPT : 9.32${\pm}$3.59sec) and supraglottic laryngectomy(shimmer : 4.39${\pm}$1.03%, jitter : 1.49${\pm}$0.14%, NHR : 0.51${\pm}$0.06, MPT : 8.9${\pm}$0.59sec) showed better results than other two procedures, but differed from normal value. Especially the patients who received supracricoid partial laryngectomy(shimmer : 9.23${\pm}$1.56%, jitter : 5.81${\pm}$1.23%, NHR : 5.89${\pm}$1.13, MPT : 6.3${\pm}$1.18sec, MFR : 632${\pm}$89ml/sec) had poorer quality of voice but presented fast functional recovery time, and the subjective symptom was improved as time goes by slowly. Conclusion : The appropriate conservative laryngeal surgery for each cancers and stage can preserve the acceptable voice for patients. Supracricoid partial laryngectomy for T1b glottic cancer can be used for acceptable voice despite its poor voice analysis.

Item Response Analysis of Energy as a Cross-Cutting Concept for Grades 3 to 9 (기초공통개념으로서 에너지에 대한 3~9학년 학생들의 문항 반응 분석)

  • This study investigated children's (grade 3 to 9) responses to assessment items on energy as a cross-cutting concept in order to get basic information for a learning progression. The assessment consisted of 8 ordered multiple-choice items at the contexts of electric circuit, mechanical energy of falling objects, phase change of matter, dissolution, biological phenomena of a lizard, food chain, radiative equilibrium between Sun and Earth, and the system of water cycling. Children's responses to each item were analyzed with using cross-tabulations in terms of grades and item option levels and Wright map and Differential item functioning based on Rasch modeled item response analysis. The results offered empirical evidence of children's development of understanding energy from relation between energy and its phenomena, types of energy, transfer and conversion of energy, towards conservation and equilibrium of energy for all of eight contexts. Children of each grade did not fully understand energy conservation. As grade goes up, their understandings of energy transfer and conversion were differentiated across the contexts and topics of energy. According to Rasch analysis, children had easier understanding of energy on dissolution and poorer understanding of energy on water cycling than that on other contexts. It was discussed and suggested that the results of this study help us organize science topics with regard to energy when developing new national science curriculum.

Biosynthesis of Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Its Incorporation into Ruminant's Products

  • Bio-hydrogenation of $C_{18}$-unsaturated fatty acids released from the hydrolysis of dietary lipids in the rumen, in general, occurs rapidly but the range of hydrogenation is quite large, depending on the degree of unsaturation of fatty acids, the configuration of unsaturated fatty acids, microbial type and the experimental condition. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is incompletely hydrogenated products by rumen microorganisms in ruminant animals. It has been shown to have numerous potential benefits for human health and the richest dietary sources of CLA are bovine milk and milk products. The cis-9, trans-11 is the predominant CLA isomer in bovine products and other isomers can be formed with double bonds in positions 8/10, 10/12, or 11/13. The term CLA refers to this whole group of 18 carbon conjugated fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic acid goes through a similar bio-hydrogenation process producing trans-11 $C_{18:1}$ and $C_{18:0}$, but may not appear to produce CLA as an intermediate. Although the CLA has been mostly derived from the dietary $C_{18:2}$ alternative pathway may be existed due to the extreme microbial diversity in the reticulo-rumen. Regardless of the origin of CLA, manipulation of the bio-hydrogenation process remains the key to increasing CLA in milk and beef by dietary means, by increasing rumen production of CLA. Although the effect of oil supplementation on changes in fatty acid composition in milk seems to be clear its effect on beef is still controversial. Thus further studies are required to enrich the CLA in beef under various dietary and feeding conditions.

Emergy Valuation of a Tidal Flat Ecosystem in the Southwestern Coast of Korea and Its Comparison with Valuations Using Economic Methodologies (영산강 4단계 간척사업 대상 갯벌생태계 가치의 에머지 평가 및 경제학적 평가와의 비교)

  • The emergy concept was used to valuate the contributions of a tidal flat ecosystem included in the fourth stage reclamation plan for the Youngsan River area to the Korean economy. Emergy contributions of the ecosystem were compared with those of economic valuations performed on the same ecosystem. The tidal flat ecosystem contributed 3.55 million EmW/ha annually. This, however, cannot be compared directly with those of the economic valuations because both methodologies approach the valuation of ecosystems in different perspectives. The emergy methodology is a donor-based valuation in which what goes into making a product or service is measured, while the economic valuation is a receiver-based approach in which human receivers determine the value of an ecosystem product or service. An emergy valuation was conducted for the three ecosystem functions included in the economic valuations to compare the results of both methodologies on the same basis. Fishery production and pollutants removal contributed 9.86 million EmW/ha/yr and 0.88 million EmW/ha/yr, respective1y. The conservation value of the tidal flat ecosystem was 3.55 million EmW/ha/yr. Overall, the emergy valuation that try to include works of both human and nature on the same basis resulted in higher economic contribution of the tidal flat ecosystem than that calculated by the economic methodologies in which only human works are measured based on the willingness-to-pay of people. This study showed that the emergy concept could provide an alternative tool for policy decision-making regarding utilization and conservation of ecosystems by approaching the ecosystem valuation from a different perspective than that of economic methodologies.

A Practical Method of a Distributed Information Resources Based on a Mediator for the u-Learning Environment (유비쿼터스 학습(u-Learning)을 위한 미디에이터 기반의 분산정보 활용방법)

  • With the rapid advance of computer and communication technology, the amount of data transferred is also increasing more than ever. The recent trend of education systems is connecting related information semantically in different systems in order to improve the utilization of computerized information Therefore, Web-based teaching-learning is developing in the ubiquitous learning direction that learners select and organize the contents, time and order of learning by themselves. That is, it is evolving to provide teaching-learning environment adaptive to individual learners' characteristics (their level of knowledge, pattern of study, areas of interest). This paper proposes the efficient evaluation method of learning contents in a mediator for the integration of heterogeneous information resources. This means that the autonomy of a remote server can be preserved to the highest degree. In addition, this paper proposes the adaptive optimization of learning contents such that available storage in a mediator can be highly utilized at any time. In order to differentiate the recent usage of a learning content from the past, the accumulated usage frequency of a learning content decays as time goes by.
