  • A spatial index is necessary to support an efficient search in a geographical information system (GIS) that is important in these days. In this paper, we design and implement a geographical data manager, called GOOD (Geo-object Oriented Data Manager) 2.0, by extending GOOD 1.0 with a spatial index processing module. That is, R-tree and R*-tree are used as a spatial index in this paper to make an efficient search possible. In addition, this paper conducts a performance evaluation to measure the improvement in search efficiency and analyzes the results of the performance evaluation. When the performance evaluation is carried out, we consider various environment factors to allow an GIS administrator to use the results as a basic data in selecting an appropriate spatial index.

  • Seasonal changes in river water vary seasonally as well as locationally, and the assessment is essential. In this study, we used the recent technique of post-classification by using the Google earth engine (GEE) to map the seasonal changes in Mahanadi river of Odisha. However, some fixed problems results during the rainy season that affects the livelihood system of Cuttack such as flooding, drowning of children and waste material deposit. Therefore, this study conducted 1) to map and analyse the water density changes and 2) to analyse the seasonal variation of river water to resolve and prevent problem shortcomings. Our results showed that nine types of variation can be found in the Mahanadi River each year. The increase and decrease of intensity of surface water analysed, and it varies in between -130 to 70 ㎥/nf. The highest frequency change is 2900 Hz near Cuttack city. The pi diagram provides the percentage of seasonal variation that can be observed as permanent water (30%), new seasonal (28%), ephemeral (12%), permanent to seasonal (7%) and seasonal (10%). The analysis is helpful and effective to assess the seasonal variation that can provide a platform for the development of Cuttack city that lies in Mahanadi delta.

  • Cut Slope Management System(CSMS) is a systematic maintenance and management system designed to prevent the collapse of cut slopes located along national roads. In order to implement safe road operation system, KICT has started the inventory of cut slopes and developed a cut slope database since 2006. Cut slope database management system using GIS technology and navigation system was developed as a Information Technology application. Through the Cut Slope Navigation System(SLOPE-Navi.), the previously developed database was checked and verified. The converted cut slope inventory data and field investigation data of 28,707 cut slopes were loaded on the navigation map. We consider that the Cut Slope Navigation Management System can be useful as in-situ system, which can be systematic and effective DB management and operation to prevent cut slope collapses and establish a remedial countermeasure as mitigation concerning disasters.

  • This paper presents the prediction and evaluation of landslide using LRA(logistic regression analysis) and ANN (Artificial Neural Network) methods. In order to assess the landslide, we selected Sarabong, Byeoldobong area and Mt. Song-ak in Jeju Island. Five factors which affect the landslide were selected as: slope angle, elevation, porosity, dry density, permeability. So as to predict and evaluate the landslide, firstly the weight value of each factor was analyzed by LRA(logistic regression analysis) and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) methods. Then we got two prediction maps using AcrView software through GIS(Geographic Information System) method. The comparative analysis reveals that the slope angle and porosity play important roles in landslide. Prediction map generated by LRA method is more accurate than ANN method in Jeju. From the prediction map, we found that the most dangerous area is distributed around the road and path.

  • BIS is an arrival guidance system which is able to supply passengers with bus service condition via Kiosks at a bus stop, internet and mobile service through pinpointing bus location in real time. It is very significant to improve the quality of traffic information by quality control of GIS-based bus network so as to maintain navigational information and to implement reliable BIS. Therefore this study aims to build criteria to quantitatively evaluate data quality of the product in accordance with the process in bus network data and to suggest guideline of quality control. To achieve this, we have categorized geometric and logical errors occurring during constructing bus network database by giving a specific case study on TAGO and set up sectional guideline and procedures to examine database for systematic and coherent quality control management. Proceeding from what has been said above, the outcome of our research leads to quality guarantee for objective and reliable bus network database and is fully expected to bring benefit of providing a more accurate public transportation information and improving reliability of BIS through preventing a variety of errors in system operation in advance.

  • Geographic information system extends several teamed circles so for and took in application step. Specially, GIS is applying much in civil engineering works field, and is trying to express terrain numerically and look for true value. It is very important that express terrain, can become important parameter to do three-dimensional analysis in later. We are using irregularity triangulation network mainly to express these terrain. In this study, calculated volume of topography by irregularity triangulation by developed formula.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of automatic measuring systems for air pollution emissions in Seoul and to suggest an improvement method using GIS and GPS. In Korea, there have been very few critical researches and managements for mobile and area sources regarding moving subjects such as automobiles. In order to control or to make a plan for reducing air pollutions, air pollution emission data based on tim and location, emission inventory systems and emission models should be implemented. Using digital maps and MS Visual Basic, we developed a visualized interface for air pollution emission data from automatic emission measurement systems in Seoul.

  • Bus, Which is together with subway the main part of public transportation modes in the city, is reviewed for the development of an optimal feeder-bus service area. Based on the IDRISI of GIS package, and taking into account of the convenience of downtown-oriented public transportation users at peak time, a model for the development of feeder-bus service area and a solution and introduced. Major result in this study is as follows: Development is given to a model that is designed to overcome the shortage of the existing models, which has limits in simulating the real situation; Variables were used in combination so that bus and subway route, station spacing, and operating frequency can be determined simultaneously, which enables to elucidate the mutual relationship and the structure in public transportation system. A model for feeder-bus area development is also given applied to determination and opening of subway and urban express bus route and new transportation systems. The model developed in this paper is useful in the case of extension and opening of subway and urban express bus route and new transportation Systems.
