  • In the fast sampling limit, the delta operator model tends to the analog system model. This fundamental property of the delta operator model unifies continuous and discrete time control system. In this paper, we study robust linear optimal model following servo system in the presence of disturbances and parameter perturbations. A technique to directly design the generalized differential operator based unified control system that convers both differential operator based continuous time and delta operator based discrete time case is presented. The quadratic criterion function for a linear system is used to design the robust unified servo control. The characteristics of the proposed servo system are analysed and simulated to verify the robustness.

  • This paper shows the kernel Poisson regression which can be applied in the claims reserving, where the row effect is assumed to be a nonlinear function of the row index. The paper concentrates on the chain-ladder technique, within the framework of the chain-ladder linear model. It is shown that the proposed method can provide better reserve estimates than the Poisson model. The cross validation function is introduced to choose optimal hyper-parameters in the procedure. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed model.

  • This paper proposes the generalized structure of a model-based disturbance rejection controller called a Robust Internal-loop Compensator (RIC). The framework consists of the RIC in the internal-loop to eliminate disturbances and a feedback controller in the external-loop to achieve nominal control performance. As the main contribution of this paper, we redefine the design problem of the RIC as a regulation control problem, then show that this new definition with the RIC structure provides more design flexibility and less implementation constraints. This is verified through a comparative structural analysis with Disturbance Observer (DOB) and Adaptive Robust Control (ARC). Two design examples of the RIC are given, along with practical issues that should be considered in the design procedure. The proposed framework is demonstrated by simulations of a rotary-type motor and experiments with a linear-type motor system.

  • The present research deals with the time-harmonic deformation in transversely isotropic magneto thermoelastic solid with two temperature (2T), rotation due to inclined load and laser pulse. Generalized theory of thermoelasticity has been formulated for this mathematical model. The entire thermo-elastic medium is rotating with uniform angular velocity and subjected to thermally insulated and isothermal boundaries. The inclined load is supposed to be a linear combination of a normal load and a tangential load. The Fourier transform techniques have been used to find the solution to the problem. The displacement components, stress components, and conductive temperature distribution with the horizontal distance are computed in the transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. The effect of angle of inclination of normal and tangential load for Green Lindsay Model and time-harmonic source for Lord Shulman model is depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.

  • In this survey, estimation methods for structural vector autoregressive models are presented in a systematic way. Both frequentist and Bayesian methods are considered. Depending on the model setup and type of restrictions, least squares estimation, instrumental variables estimation, method-of-moments estimation and generalized method-of-moments are considered. The methods are presented in a unified framework that enables a practitioner to find the most suitable estimation method for a given model setup and set of restrictions. It is emphasized that specifying the identifying restrictions such that they are linear restrictions on the structural parameters is helpful. Examples are provided to illustrate alternative model setups, types of restrictions and the most suitable corresponding estimation methods.

  • A model for obtaining optimal resetting period and optimal target value of the process quality level is proposed when the quality characteristic is subject to a linear shift in mean. Different sales conditions are considered where good items can he sold at a regular price and bad items at a discounted one. Some numerical examples are also given.

  • When the disturbances in the linear repression medel are generated by a seasonal autoregressive scheme the Cochrane Orcutt transformation estimator (COTE) is a well known alternative to Generalized Least Squares estimator (GLSE). In this paper it is analyzed in which situation the Ordinary Least Squares estimator (OLSE) is always better than COTE for positive autocorrelation in terms of efficiency which is here defined as the ratio of the total variances.

  • Flood planning needs to recognize trends for extreme precipitation events. Especially, the r-year return level is a common measure for extreme events. In this paper, we present a nonstationary temporal model for precipitation return levels using a hierarchical Bayesian modeling. For intensity, we model annual maximum daily precipitation measured in Korea with a generalized extreme value (GEV). The temporal dependence among the return levels is incorporated to the model for GEV model parameters and a linear model with autoregressive error terms. We apply the proposed model to precipitation data collected from various stations in Korea from 1973 to 2011.

  • This paper deals with a fractional model reduction for T-S fuzzy systems with time varying delayed states. A contractive coprime factorization of time delayed T-S fuzzy systems is defined and obtained by solving linear matrix inequalities. Using generalized controllability and observability gramians of the contractive coprime factor, a balanced state space realization of the system is derived. The reduced model will be obtained by truncating states in the balanced realization and an upper bound of model approximation error is also presented. In order to demonstrate efficacy of the suggested method, a numerical example is performed.

  • This paper presents a LMI(linear matrix inequality)-based fuzzy approach of modeling and active vibration control of geometrically nonlinear flexible plates with piezoelectric materials as actuators and sensors. The large-amplitude vibration characteristics and dynamic partial differential equation of a piezoelectric flexible rectangular thin plate structure are obtained by using generalized Fourier series and numerical integral. Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to approximate the nonlinear structural system, which combines the fuzzy inference rule with the local linear state space model. A robust fuzzy dynamic output feedback control law based on the T-S fuzzy model is designed by the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) technique, and stability analysis and disturbance rejection problems are guaranteed by LMI method. The simulation result shows that the fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller based on a two-rule T-S fuzzy model performs well, and the vibration of plate structure with geometrical nonlinearity is suppressed, which is less complex in computation and can be practically implemented.
