  • In this study, the optimum conditions for the LPME (liquid phase microextraction) were investigated to overcome several shortcomings of traditional liquid-liquid extraction method. The LPME, which is automatic and dynamic, was used to analyze the five pesticides (dementon-S-methyl, diazinon, parathion, fenitrothion, EPN) extracted from vegetable, and HP 6890 GC/NPD was used as an analytic instrument. It was possible to optimize the extraction condition using the automatic LPME. The optimum extraction rate was obtained at pH 3.0 and $100{\mu}g/mL$ of salt concentration and standard curve showed linearity with over $R^2=0.9921$ in the range of $0.2{\sim}10{\mu}g/g$. The relative standard deviations were 7.7%, 9.8%, 7.8%, 9.7% and 8.2% in the $5.0{\mu}g/g$ concentration of dementon-S-methyl, diazinon, parathion, fenitrothion and EPN, respectively. The acquired accuracies were satisfactory showing 12.7%, 7.8%, 10.4%, -6.7% and -0.7% for dementon-S-methyl, diazinon, parathion, fenitrothion and EPN respectively.

  • Usage and residue of pesticide were sureyed for five years from three golf courses which have morethan eighteenholes inKangwon-do from 1992 to 1996. A total of 186 samples(soils, lawns, effluents) were collected from these courses and residual levels of four kinds of organochlorines and twelve kinds of organophosphorus pesticides in each samples were determined by GC-ECD and GC-NPD. The amount of pesticide used in each golf course was 1, 635.6kg a year on the average, and that of pesticide to the green and the fairway were 33g/$\textrm{m}^2$ and 3g/$\textrm{m}^2$, respectively. The pesticide which was not permitted for the management of golf course was detected in 24 of 186 samples and its detection rate was 12.9%. The average pesticide residue in soils was 0.208 ppm for captan, 0.031 ppm for daconil, respectively. Detection rate of the prohibited pesticides has decreased every year since 1992, and there were no residues all the tested samples in 1996.Based on these results, it might be judged investigation methods of pesticide residue should be changed with current using pesticide from the prohibited pesticides and the criteria of residual pesticides in effluents of golf course also should be established.

  • In order to monitor the residual pesticides in environment friendly agricultural commodities, fruits and fruiting vegetables. Twenty-five agricultural commodities were collected twice in May and August 2011 from nine environment friendly agricultural commodities-selling supermarkets and retail stores located in eight major cities in Korea. The number of each agricultural commodity collected, 555 samples in total, was 152 organic agricultural products, 202 pesticide-free agricultural products and 201 low-pesticide agricultural products. Pesticide residues in samples were analyzed by multiresidue method for 245 pesticides using a GC-ECD/NPD and an HPLC-DAD/FLD and the peaks suspected as pesticides were identified with a GC/MSD. As a result of pesticide residue analysis, three pesticides, bifenthrin, EPN and chlorpyrifos, were detected from four samples including apple, representing a detection rate of 0.72%. The residue levels of the four pesticide-detected samples were less than their maximum residue limits (MRLs) but one pesticide EPN detected from pear exceeded its legible criterion of one twentieth MRL. Estimated daily intakes of the pesticides detected from fruits and fruiting vegetables were less than 0.76% of their maximum permissible intake.

  • BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to monitor the residue of pesticides and to assess their risk in domestic agricultural products, such as fruit vegetables, tomatoes, oriental melons and root vegetables, garlic, potatoes and onions. METHODS AND RESULTS: 250 samples containing both general and environment-friendly certified agricultural products were collected from traditional markets and supermarkets in 6 cities. 132 pesticides except for herbicides were analysed using the multi-residue methods by GC/ECD, GC/NPD and HPLC/UVD. 17 kinds of pesticides were detected from 42 samples, which were 32 general, 1 organic, 4 pesticide-free and 5 low pesticide agricultural products. Among those, myclobutanil detected in 1 potato and procymidone detected in 10 oriental melons were unregistered pesticides for using in Korea. Fenbuconazole detected in 1 potato and phorate detected in 1 tomato were exceeded over the MRLs established by Korea Food and Drug Administration. CONCLUSION: Based on these results, a risk assesment was conducted using a percentage of acceptable daily intake(%ADI). %ADI ranged from 0.0064% to 4.6035%, and showed these values have no effect on human health.

  • Fifty substances of pesticide were selected for analysis through the historical investigation of pesticides detected from environmental-friendly agricultural soil, and the environmental-friendly agricultural soils in Gyeongnam area were collected and then were accepted Anve (accelerated solvent extraction) and SPve (solid-phase extraction) as multiresidue extraction and clean up methods suitable to the soils. The pesticide residues were analyzed by using GC/vCD/NPD, HPLC/UV/FL, GC/MSD, or HPLC/MSD. 50 kinds of pesticides for the soils were an average of 95.5% from retrieval ratio of the 72 to 118% range, and the average of 3.0% for CV (%). Among 40 samples of soil, 20 components were detected from pesticide residues of 21 samples, and average amounts detected for these components were 0.035 for endosulfan, 0.043 for ethoprophos, 0.020 for chlorpyrifos, 0.023 for chlorfenapyr, 0.047 for flufenoxuron, 0.070 for fenvalerate, 0.266 for cypermethrin, 0.016 for lufenuron, 0.022 for bifenthrin, 0.025 for fenobucarb/BPMC, 0.043 for difenoconazole, 0.059 for fenarimol, 0.020 for kresoxim-methyl, 0.026 for tetraconazole, 0.039 for isoprothiolane, 0.017 for iprobenfos, 0.014 for nolrimol, 0.156 for fluquinconazole, 0.047 for tebuconazole, and 0.045 mg/kg for oxadiazon. Therefore it is infered that the establishment of pesticide residues limit for environmental-friendly agricultural soil is needed as soon as possible.

  • In order to develop the simultaneous analytical method for pesticide residues which ones in soil are rapidly and inexpensively measured by, many analytical methods for individual pesticide residue and several methods for multi-pesticide residues in agricultural commodities and food were reviewed. Various gas chromatographic conditions and pre-treatment procedures were intensively investigated and modified. And then new optimum procedure was established and its proficiency was validated. The response on detectors of simultaneous determination of 180 pesticides out of pesticides used in Korea was tested. The number of pesticides that their limits of detection (LOD) equal or lower than $0.05\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ were 137 pesticides on ECD, 170 pesticides on NPD and 179 pesticides on ECD/NPD integrated. The retention times of most pesticides ranged appropriately between 10 minutes and 40 minutes in the proposed chromatographic conditions. But about 90 pesticides eluded between 20 minutes and 30 minutes and so they were not resolved enough. In partition with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate/hexane (1:1) and ethyl acetate, number of pesticides whose extraction efficiency ranged from 70% to 120%, were 163, 154 and 147, respectively.
