Molecular Taxonomy of Ganoderma cupreum from Southern India Inferred from ITS rDNA Sequences Analysis

  • Ganoderma is a cosmopolitan wood-rot basidiomycete that has been extensively studied for its pathogencity and medicinal properties. Identification of Ganoderma based on macro-microscopic features led to large number of synonyms which resulted in 250 taxonomic names. A Ganoderma species collected from Courtallam, Tamil Nadu was identified as G. cupreum. Phylogenetic analysis inferred from internal transcribed spacer rDNA region resolved the Indian isolate MYC1 as Ganoderma cupreum which clustered with Australian and Asian "cupreum" clade with 85% bootstrap support BS and shared 99% and 98% nucleotide similarity with Malaysian and Australian 'cupreum' respectively. This study represents the first molecular evidence of G. cupreum from Asian origin.

  • Performance of an airlift bioreactor (ABR) containing the immobilized microorganisms was evaluated in an integrated pilot scale recirculating aquaculture system stocked with Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at an initial rearing density of $5\%$ and compared to a rotating biological contactor (RBC) for 40 days. The TAN concentration of rearing tank for ABR and RBC were maintained at $0.4\;g/m^3$ and $0.5\;g/m^3,$ respectively, The nitrite nitrogen was completely removed by the ABR. The ABR's aeration was more stable than the RBC's. On the whole, the feasibility of ABR as an aquacultural water treatment unit was recognized.

  • Given a graph G, the Motzkin and Straus formulation of the maximum clique problem is the quadratic program (QP) formed from the adjacent matrix of the graph G over the standard simplex. It is well-known that the global optimum value of this QP (called Lagrangian) corresponds to the clique number of a graph. It is useful in practice if similar results hold for hypergraphs. In this paper, we attempt to explore the relationship between the Lagrangian of a hypergraph and the order of its maximum cliques when the number of edges is in a certain range. Specifically, we obtain upper bounds for the Lagrangian of a hypergraph when the number of edges is in a certain range. These results further support a conjecture introduced by Y. Peng and C. Zhao (2012) and extend a result of J. Talbot (2002). We also establish an upper bound of the clique number in terms of Lagrangians for hypergraphs.

  • In this research, we interpret the notion of a b-cyclic (𝚽, C, D)-contraction for the pair (g, S) of self-mappings on the set Y. We employ our definition to introduce some common fixed point theorems for the two mappings g and S under a set of conditions. Also we introduce an example to support our results.

  • The aim of this paper is to establish common fixed point theorems under generalized (ψ - ϕ)-weak contractions in the setting of complete S-metric spaces and we support our result by some examples. Also an application of our results, we obtain some fixed point theorems of integral type. Our results extend Theorem 2.1 and 2.2 of Doric [5], Theorem 2.1 of Dutta and Choudhury [6], and many other several results from the existing literature.

Natural Dye Extraction from Merbau (Intsia bijuga) Sawdust: Optimization of Solid-Solvent Ratio and Temperature

  • The ecofriendly lifestyle has attracted considerable support for sustainable development. Natural dyes, as sustainable products, have become a research focus and development area for many scientists. Ecofriendly processing also supports circular sustainable development. This study effectively obtained tannins as a natural dye from merbau (Intsia bijuga) sawdust using water as an ecofriendly solvent. Merbau sawdust is an underutilized industrial waste. Temperature and solid-solvent ratio variations were performed to extract tannins from merbau sawdust. Temperature and solid-solvent ratio positively affected solution yield and tannin concentration. The optimal condition was identified using response surface methodology and experimental observations. A yield of 0.2217 g tannins/g merbau was obtained under the conditions of 333.15 K and 0.125 solid-solvent ratio. Extraction was controlled by convective mass transfer at the interface of solid particles.

Axial load prediction in double-skinned profiled steel composite walls using machine learning

  • This study presents an innovative AI-driven approach to assess the ultimate axial load in Double-Skinned Profiled Steel sheet Composite Walls (DPSCWs). Utilizing a dataset of 80 entries, seven input parameters were employed, and various AI techniques, including Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Support Vector Regression, Decision Tree Regression, Decision Tree with AdaBoost Regression, Random Forest Regression, Gradient Boost Regression Tree, Elastic Net Regression, Ridge Regression, and LASSO Regression, were evaluated. Decision Tree Regression and Random Forest Regression emerged as the most accurate models. The top three performing models were integrated into a hybrid approach, excelling in accurately estimating DPSCWs' ultimate axial load. This adaptable hybrid model outperforms traditional methods, reducing errors in complex scenarios. The validated Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model showcases less than 1% error, enhancing reliability. Correlation analysis highlights robust predictions, emphasizing the importance of steel sheet thickness. The study contributes insights for predicting DPSCW strength in civil engineering, suggesting optimization and database expansion. The research advances precise load capacity estimation, empowering engineers to enhance construction safety and explore further machine learning applications in structural engineering.

Variation in Phenotypic Characteristics and Contents of Sesquiterpene Lactones in Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) Germplasm

  • Lettuce is an important annual leafy vegetable and bitterness is its potent flavor character. Lettuce germplasm differ their phenotypic characters and sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) contents which are important for consumer's acceptance. This study was carried out to evaluate the phenotypic characters and SLs contents in one hundred lettuce germplasm in Jeonju, Korea. Twenty-three agro-morphological (16 qualitative and 7 quantitative) traits and two SLs (lactucin and lactucopicrin) contents were studied in these germplasm. Germplasm exhibited the variation in qualitative and quantitative characters. Average plant weight was 423.9 g with a range from 116.0 to 905.0 g. Lactucin content was varied from 19.7 (IT 294226) to $194.4{\mu}g/g$ (IT 294298) with an average concentration of $84.7{\mu}g/g$. Lactucopicrin ranged from 82.5 (IT 300134) to $2228.6{\mu}g/g$ (IT 294210) with an average concentration of $586.3{\mu}g/g$. Total SLs content was ranged from 120.1 (IT 300134) to 2286.6 (IT 294210)${\mu}g/g$ with the average concentration of $671.0{\mu}g/g$. Significant ($p{\leq}0.05$) differences were found between crisp head and butter head germplasm for lactucin, lactucopicrin and total SLs content. Crisp head germplasm revealed the highest average lactucin ($112.9{\mu}g/g$), lactucopicrin ($734.8{\mu}g/g$) and total SLs content ($847.7{\mu}g/g$). Crisp head and leafy type germplasm exhibited more total SLs content (847.7 and $744.7{\mu}g/g$, respectively) than cos ($524.9{\mu}g/g$) and butter head type ($519.4{\mu}g/g$). Principal component analyses of the quantitative traits indicated that the first principal component axis accounted more than 91% of the total variation. This study revealed the ample genetic variation in the agro-morphological traits and SLs contents to support the selection for improved lettuce varieties.

복지관 이용 노인의 사회적 지지가 회피적 대처방식의 매개효과를 통하여 자살생각에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Social Support of the Elderly Using Elderly Welfare Center on Suicidal Ideation through the Mediating Effect of Avoidance Coping Style)

  • 본 연구는 복지관 이용 노인의 사회적지지가 회피적 대처방식의 매개효과를 통하여 자살생각에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위한 목적으로 시도되었다. 연구방법은 G시에 소재한 4곳의 노인복지관을 이용하는 노인 392명을 대상으로 한 서술적 조사연구로, 2019년 10월 21일부터 11월 8일까지 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 통계방법은 IBM SPSS/win 26.0 프로그램으로 t-test, ANOVA, Scheff's test, 피어슨 상관관계를 분석하였고, 매개효과는 Baron과 Kenny의 3단계분석 절차에 따른 다중회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 대상자의 사회적지지의 평균점수는 5.73±1.23점으로 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 회피적 대처방식은 12.53±3.47점, 자살생각은 6.21±2.06점으로 회피적 대처방식과 자살생각의 점수 모두 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 각 변수들 간의 상관관계에서 자살생각은 사회적지지(r=-.151, p=.004)와 음의 상관관계 있었으며, 회피적 대처방식과(r=.315, p<.001)는 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 노인복지관 이용 노인의 회피적 대처방식은 사회적지지와 자살생각의 관계를 부분매개하는 것으로 나타났다(Z=-2.97, p<.001). 따라서 지역사회 노인들의 자살생각과 같은 부정적인 정서를 사전에 예방하고 방지하기 위해 지역 및 정부차원의 다양한 정책과 지원이 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.

형사조정제도의 문제점에 대한 개선방안 (Improvements about Problem of Criminal Mediation System)

  • 형사조정제도에 대해 우리나라에서는 2006년 4월 대전지검 등 3개청에서 범죄피해자지원센터 주관 시범 운영되다가 2007년부터는 전국57개 지방검찰청 및 지청에서 범죄피해자센터와 형사조정제도를 본격 실시한 이래 2016년 현재는 모든 검찰청에서 형사조정제도를 운영하고 있다. 한편 검찰에서는 2009년 10월 '형사조정 실무운영 지침'을 제정하고 2010년 9월에 "범죄피해자보호법"에 그 법률적 근거를 마련하였다. 이는 형사조정이 범죄피해자 피해 회복을 지원하는 방향으로 운영되어야 한다는 것을 담고 있다고 본다. 그러나 형사조정제도의 전반적인 인프라는 어느 정도 구축되어 있다고 볼 수 있으나, 본 필자가 2007년부터 2016년 현재까지 G검찰청 형사조정위원 활동을 통하여 경험한 바로는 아직도 형사조정실 신변안전에 대한 취약 등 몇 가지 문제점이 대두된바, 본 논문에서 그에 대한 문제점을 검토하고 형사조정 실무에 알맞은 형사조정제도의 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다.
