The research for incubation period, mycelial density, day required for primordial formation after inoculation(below DPI), number of valid stipes, individual weight and accumulation amounts of organic selenium for P. cornucopiae by treating 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000(${\mu}g/50g$) of $Na_2SeO_3$ is following. Incubation periods of P. cornucopiae are 25~30 days per each treatment with $Na_2SeO_3$. Compared to the control which took 22 days of incubation period, it is increased 3 or 8 days for the treatment of $600{\sim}1000{\mu}g/50g$. Mycelial density of P. cornucopiae treated with $Na_2SeO_3$ between 600 and $1000{\mu}g/50g$ is very similar with control. DPI of P. cornucopiae treated with $Na_2SeO_3$ between 600 and $1000{\mu}g/50g$ was increased 3 or 8 days. Number of valid stipes of P. cornucopiae treated with $Na_2SeO_3$ between 600 and $1000{\mu}g/50g$ was between 10 and 16. It was decreased 2 or 8 as compared to 18 of control. Individual weight of P. cornucopiae treated with $Na_2SeO_3$ between 600 and $1000{\mu}g/50g$ was between 94 and 116g/850cc. It was decreased 5.7~23.5% as compared to 123g/850cc of the control. Accumulation amount of organic selenium for P. cornucopiae treated with $Na_2SeO_3$ between 600 and $1000{\mu}g/50g$ was $9.1{\sim}10.8{\mu}g/g/dry$. It was increased 182~216 times as the concentration increased when compared to $0.05{\mu}g/g/dry$ of the control. In conclusion, incubation period, mycelial density, DPI, number of valid stipes, individual weight and accumulation amounts of organic selenium for P. cornucopiae by treating $600{\sim}1000{\mu}g/g$ of $Na_2SeO_3$ was decreased. So that the optimal treatment was less $400{\mu}g/g$ than $600{\sim}1000{\mu}g/g$.
In this study, we analyzed the changes in glucosinolate content and gene expression in TO1000DH3 and Early big seedling upon methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment. Analysis of glucosinolate contents after MeJA treatment at $200{\mu}M$ concentration showed that the total glucosinolate content increased by 1.3-1.5 fold in TO1000DH3 and 1.3-3.8 fold in Early big compared to those before treatment. Aliphatic glucosinolates, progoitrin and gluconapin, were detected only in TO1000DH3, and the changes in the content of neoglucobrassicin were the greatest at 48 hours after MeJA treatment in TO1000DH3 and Early big. The transcriptomic analysis showed that transcripts involved in stress or defense reactions, or those related to growth were specifically expressed in TO1000DH3, while transcripts related to nucleosides or ATP biosynthesis were specifically expressed in Early big. GO analysis on transcripts with more than two-fold change in expression upon MeJA treatment, corresponding to 12,020 transcripts in TO1000DH3 and 13,510 transcripts in Early big, showed that the expression of transcripts that react to stimulus and chemical increased in TO1000DH3 and Early big, while those related to single-organism and ribosome synthesis decreased. In particular, the expression increased for all transcripts related to indole glucosinolate biosynthesis, which is associated with increase in glucobrassicin and neoglucobrassicin contents. Upon MeJA treatment, the expression of AOP3 (Bo9g006220, Bo9g006240), TGG1 (Bo14804s010) increased only in TO1000DH3, while the expression of Dof1.1 (Bo5g008360), UGT74C1 (Bo4g177540), and GSL-OH (Bo4g173560, Bo4g173550, Bo4g173530) increased specifically in Early big.
This study was to investigate the biological activities of green tea seed methanol extract (GTSME) and compared those of green tea methanol extract (GTME) for using green tea seed as the functional food material. The hydrogen-donating activity of GTSME was over 50% at the $100 {\mu}g/mL$ concentration the activity of GTME was 21.86% at the $1000{\mu}g/mL$ concentration compared with that of control. The MDA (malondialdehyde) production was 60 Mol/g and 50 Mol/g in the mouse liver homogenate teated with GTME and GTSME of $1000{\mu}g/mL$ concentrations, respectively, and the values were lower than 86 Mol/g of control. GTME and GTSME of $1000{\mu}g/mL$ concentration inhibited the proliferation of over 50% and over 20% in A549 and SW480 human cancer cells, respectively. The morphology transformation was shown in the cancer cells treated with GTSME of $500{\mu}g/mL$ with the decrease of cell numbers lower than that of control cells numbers. The NO production was increased in a dose dependent manner in the RAW264.7 macrophage cells treated with GTME and GTSME of 1, 10, 100 and $1000{\mu}g/mL$ concentrations, and the NO production by GTSME was $2.04{\mu}M$ at $100{\mu}g/mL$ concentration, and the value was higher than $0.77{\mu}M$ by GTME.
Five different enrichment methods were studied to find an optimal method to recover Yersinia enterocolitica from swine feed samples. When the recovery of Y. enterocolitica GER-C (serotype O:3) strain was studied at 1000 CFU/g feed, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) enrichment at $4^{\circ}C$ and PBS plus sorbitol and bile salts (PSB) enrichment at $4^{\circ}C$ and $21^{\circ}C$ were not effective (< 22%). In contrast, both irgasan-ticarcillin-potassium chlorate (ITC) and tryptic soy broth plus polymyxin B sulfate and novobiocin (TSBPN) enrichment methods showed a full recovery (100%) at 100-1000 CFU/g feed. At 10 CFU/g feed, both ITC and TSBPN methods still recovered the strain (> 50%). In recovery of ATCC 9610 (serotype O:8) strain, TSBPN method was more sensitive than any other methods (P < 0.05) at 1000 CFU/g feed. Using TSBPN method, the strain was still recovered at 100 CFU/g feed, but not at 10 CFU/g feed. With its sensitivity and relatively simple recipe, TSBPN was most desirable method to recover Y. enterocolitica from swine feed samples.

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of hot water extract (ESW) and 70% ethanol extract (ESE) from Euphorbia supina Rafin on LPS-stimulated inflammatory response in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Upon investigation at concentrations up to $1000\;{\mu}g$/mL, ESW and ESE did not have any cytotoxic effects on RAW 264.7 macrophages. ESW induced inhibition of 21.6%~54.8% of nitric oxide (NO) production at 100~1000${\mu}g$/mL, and $PGE_2$ production was inhibited up to 25.7%~38.2% at 250~1000${\mu}g$/mL, proportional to the ESW concentrations. ESW induced inhibition of 66.1% and 54.3% of IL-6 production at 250 and $1000\;{\mu}g$/mL, respectively. ESE (100~1000${\mu}g$/mL) induced inhibition of 38.3%~77.5% of NO, 40%~94.7% of $PGE_2$, and 43.9%~89.4% of IL-6 production, proportional to the ESE concentrations. Only 44.1% of IL-10 production was inhibited at a concentration of $500\;{\mu}g$/mL. ESE induced an increase in TNF-${\alpha}$ production at a concentration of 100 and $250\;{\mu}g$/mL, whereas at high concentrations (500 and $1000\;{\mu}g$/mL), ESE induced inhibition of 19.2% and 92.4% of TNF-${\alpha}$ production, respectively. In conclusion, concentrations of more than $500\;{\mu}g$/mL ESE demonstrated effective immune-modulating activity through inhibition of NO, $PGE_2$, IL-6, IL-10, or TNF-${\alpha}$ production, as it relates to the macrophage's immuno-activity; therefore, ESE has potential as a good candidate substance for reduction of inflammatory responses.

Polyurethane multi-layer and foam multi-layer were prepared with PU1000 and PU2000 made by poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) having the molecular weight of 1000 and 2000 g/mol, respectively. The damping and transmission loss of these materials were compared with PU1000 used as a reference. The damping peak of polyurethane multi-layer was shifted to the lower temperature compared with PU1000, while the damping peak of polyurethane foam multi-layer was shifted to the higher temperature and broaden. In terms of noise reduction, the transmission loss of polyurethane multi-layer was effective at the specific frequency range such as less than 100 Hz and around 600 Hz compared with PU1000. The transmission loss of polyurethane foam multi-layer was most effective in the whole experimental frequency range.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare changes in frictional resistance between the bracket and wire under dry and wet conditions according to a change in moment. Methods: A stainless steel bracket of $0.022"{\times}0.028"$ slot, and $0.019"{\times}0.025"$ stainless steel, beta-titanium, and nickel-titanium wires were used. A 10 mm length lever was attached to the test (sliding) brackets to generate a moment. The experimental model was designed to allow tipping until contacts were established between the wire and the mesiodistal edges of the bracket slot. The moment was generated by suspending a 100 g or 200 g weight on the end of the lever. The moments applied were $1000g{\cdot}mm\;(100g{\times}10mm)\;and\;2000g{\cdot}mm\;(200g{\times}10mm)$. The test brackets were ligated with elastomeric ligature for a constant ligation force and the fixed brackets were ligated with stainless steel ligature. Brackets were moved along the wire by means of an universal testing machine, and maximum frictional resistances were recorded. Results: Stainless steel wire showed least frictional resistance and there was no significant difference between beta-titanium and nickel-titanium except at $2000g{\cdot}mm$ moment in wet conditions. Frictional resistance of all wires increased as the moment increased from $1000g{\cdot}mm\;to\;2000g{\cdot}mm$. Under wet conditions, the frictional resistance of stainless steel wires increased in both $1000g{\cdot}mm\;and\;2000g{\cdot}mm$ moment conditions, but frictional resistance of nickel-titanium and beta-titanium increased only in $2000g{\cdot}mm$ conditions. Conclusion: These results indicated that various conditions influence on frictional resistance. Therefore, laboratory studies of frictional resistance should simulate clinical situation.

Background : The therapeutic effects of surfactant on acute lung injury derive not only from its recruiting action on collapsed alveoli but also from its anti-inflammatory effects. Pro-apoptotic action on alveolar neutrophils represents one of the important anti-inflammatory mechanisms of surfactant. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of sufactant on the apoptosis of human peripheral and rat alveolar neutrophils. Methods : In the (Ed- the article is not definitely needed but it helps to separate the two prepositions 'in') in vitro study, human neutrophils were collected from healthy volunteers. An equal number of neutrophils ($1{\times}10^6$) (Ed-confirm) was treated with LPS (10, 100, 1000ng/ml), surfactant (10, 100, $1000{\mu}g/ml$), or a combination of LPS (1000ng/ml) and surfactant (10, 100, $1000{\mu}g/ml$). After incubation for 24 hours, the apoptosis of neutrophils was evaluated by Annexin V method. In the in vivo study, induction of acute lung injury in SD rats by intra-tracheal instillation of LPS (5mg/kg) was followed by intra-tracheal administration of either surfactant (30mg/kg) or normal saline (5ml/kg). Tenty-four hours after LPS instillation, alveolar neutrophils were collected and the apoptotic rate was evaluated by Annexin V method. In addition, changes of the respiratory mechanics of rats (respiratory rate, tidal volume, and airway resistance) were evaluated with one chamber body plethysmography before, and 23 hours after, LPS instillation. Results : in the in vitro study, LPS treatment decreased the apoptosis of human peripheral blood neutrophils (control: $47.4{\pm}5.0%$, LPS 10ng/ml; $30.6{\pm}10.8%$, LPS 100ng/ml; $27.5{\pm}9.5%$, LPS 1000ng/ml; $24.4{\pm}7.7%$). The combination of low to moderate doses of surfactant with LPS promoted apoptosis (LPS 1000ng/ml + Surf $10{\mu}g/ml$; $36.6{\pm}11.3%$, LPS 1000ng/ml +Surf $100{\mu}g/ml$; $41.3{\pm}11.2%$). The high dose of surfactant ($1000{\mu}g/ml$) decreased apoptosis ($24.4{\pm}7.7%$) and augmented the anti-apoptotic effect of LPS (LPS 1000ng/ml + Surf $1000P{\mu}g/ml$; $19.8{\pm}5.4%$). In the in vivo study, the apoptotic rate of alveolar neutrophils of surfactant-treated rats was higher than that of normal saline-treated rats ($6.03{\pm}3.36%$ vs. $2.95{\pm}0.58%$). The airway resistance (represented by Penh) of surfactant-treated rats was lower than that of normal saline-treated rats at 23 hours after LPS injury ($2.64{\pm}0.69$ vs. $4.51{\pm}2.24$, p<0.05). Conclusion : Surfactant promotes the apoptosis of human peripheral blood and rat alveolar neutrophils. Pro-apoptotic action on neutrophils represents one of the important anti-inflammatory mechanisms of surfactant.
