  • Robust design is one method to make manufacturing less sensitive to manufacturing process. Also it is cost effective technique to improve the quality process. This method uses statistically planned experiments to vary settings of important process control parameters. In this paper we apply fuzzy optimization and fuzzy logic system to robust design concept. First a method which uses fuzzy optimization in obtaining optimum settings by measured data from experiments will be presented. Second, fuzzy logic system is made to reduce experiments using experiments results consisted with key control parameter combinations. Then optimum parameter set points are obtained by the descrebed first fuzzy optimization method after prediction the results of each parameter combinations considering each control parameter variations by nonsingleton fuzzy logic system concept.

  • Complex and uncertain issues in supply chain result in integrated decision making processes in supply chains. So decentralized (distributed) decision making (DDM) approach is considered as a crucial stage in supply chain planning. In this paper, an uncertain DDM through coordination mechanism is addressed for a multi-product supply chain planning problem. The main concern of this study is comparison of DDM approach with centralized decision making (CDM) approach while some parameters of decision making are assumed to be uncertain. The uncertain DDM problem is modeled through fuzzy mathematical programming in which products' demands are assumed to be uncertain and modeled using fuzzy sets. Moreover, a CDM approach is customized and developed in presence of fuzzy parameters. Both approaches are solved using three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods. Hence, the contribution of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1) proposing a DDM approach for a multi-product supply chain planning problem; 2) Introducing a coordination mechanism in the proposed DDM approach in order to utilize the benefits of a CDM approach while using DDM approach; 3) Modeling the aforementioned problem through fuzzy mathematical programming; 4) Comparing the performance of proposed DDM and a customized uncertain CDM approach on multi-product supply chain planning; 5) Applying three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods in order to address and compare the performance of both DDM and CDM approaches. The results of these fuzzy optimization methods are compared. Computational results illustrate that the proposed DDM approach closely approximates the optimal solutions generated by the CDM approach while the manufacturer's and retailers' decisions are optimized through a coordination mechanism making lasting relationship.

  • Many contracting firms and project managers in the construction industry have started to utilize multi objective optimization methods to handle multiple conflicting goals for completing the project within the stipulated time and budget with required quality and safety. These optimization methods have increased the pressure on decision makers to search for an optimal resources utilization plan that optimizes simultaneously the total project cost, completion time, and crashing cost by considering indirect cost, contractual penalty cost etc., practically charging them in terms of direct cost of the project which is fuzzy in nature. This paper presents a multiple fuzzy goal programming model (MFGP) that supports decision makers in performing the challenging task. The model incorporates the fuzziness which stems from the imprecise aspiration levels attained by the decision maker to these objectives that are quantified through fuzzy linear membership function. The membership values of these objectives are then maximized which forms the fuzzy decision. The problem is solved using LINGO 8 optimization solver and the best compromise solution is identified. Comparison between solutions of MFGP, fuzzy multi objective linear programming (FMOLP) and multiple goal programming (MGP) are also presented. Additionally, an interactive decision making process is developed to enable the decision maker to interact with the system in modifying the fuzzy data and model parameters until a satisfactory solution is obtained. A case study is considered to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model for optimization of project network parameters in the construction industry.

  • The paper concerns the hybrid optimization of fuzzy inference systems that is based on Hierarchical Fair Competition-based Parallel Genetic Algorithms (HFCGA) and information data granulation. The granulation is realized with the aid of the Hard C-means clustering and HFCGA is a kind of multi-populations of Parallel Genetic Algorithms (PGA), and it is used for structure optimization and parameter identification of fuzzy model. It concerns the fuzzy model-related parameters such as the number of input variables to be used, a collection of specific subset of input variables, the number of membership functions, the order of polynomial, and the apexes of the membership function. In the hybrid optimization process, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. Thestructural optimization is realized via HFCGA and HCM method whereas in case of the parametric optimization we proceed with a standard least square method as well as HFCGA method as well. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is superior to the conventional methods.

  • A neural optimization network and fuzzy rules are proposed to control the redundant robot manipulators in an environment with obstacle. A neural optimization network is employed to solve the optimization problem for resolved motion control of redundant robot manipulators in an environment with obstacle. The fuzzy rules are proposed to determine the weights of neural optimization networks to avoid the collision between robot manipulators and obstacle. The inputs of fuzzy rules are the resultant distance and change of the distance and sum of the changes by differential motion of each joint. And the output of fuzzy rules is defined as the capability of collision avoidance of joint differential motion. The weightings of neural optimization networks are adjusted according to the capability of collision aboidance of each joint. To show the validities of the proposed method, computer simulation results are illustrated for the redundant robot of the planar type with three degrees of freedom.

  • Fault detection and isolation are related to system monitoring, identifying when a fault has occurred, and determining the type of fault and its location. Fault detection is utilized to determine whether a problem has occurred within a certain channel or area of operation. Fault detection and diagnosis have become increasingly important for many technical processes in the development of safe and efficient advanced systems for supervision. This paper presents an integrated technique for fault diagnosis and classification for open- and short-circuit faults in three-phase inverter circuits. Discrete wavelet transform and principal component analysis are utilized to detect the discontinuity in currents caused by a fault. The features of fault diagnosis are then extracted. A fault dictionary is used to acquire details about transistor faults and the corresponding fault identification. Fault classification is performed with a fuzzy logic system and relevance vector machine (RVM). The proposed model is incorporated with a set of optimization techniques, namely, evolutionary particle swarm optimization (EPSO) and cuckoo search optimization (CSO), to improve fault detection. The combination of optimization techniques with classification techniques is analyzed. Experimental results confirm that the combination of CSO with RVM yields better results than the combinations of CSO with fuzzy logic system, EPSO with RVM, and EPSO with fuzzy logic system.

  • The paper concerns the successive optimization for structure and parameters of fuzzy inference systems that is based on parallel Genetic Algorithms (PGA) and information data granulation (IG). PGA is multi, population based genetic algorithms, and it is used tu optimize structure and parameters of fuzzy model simultaneously, The granulation is realized with the aid of the C-means clustering. The concept of information granulation was applied to the fuzzy model in order to enhance the abilities of structural optimization. By doing that, we divide the input space to form the premise part of the fuzzy rules and the consequence part of each fuzzy rule is newly' organized based on center points of data group extracted by the C-Means clustering, It concerns the fuzzy model related parameters such as the number of input variables to be used in fuzzy model. a collection of specific subset of input variables, the number of membership functions according to used variables, and the polynomial type of the consequence part of fuzzy rules, The simultaneous optimization mechanism is explored. It can find optimal values related to structure and parameter of fuzzy model via PGA, the C-means clustering and standard least square method at once. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the Dnmosed algorithm is superior to the conventional methods.

  • In order to improve the utilization of irrigation water resources of greenhouse tomatoes, a water-saving irrigation decision-making model based on genetic optimization T-S fuzzy neural network is proposed in this paper. The main work are as follows: Firstly, the traditional genetic algorithm is optimized by introducing the constraint operator and update operator of the Krill herd (KH) algorithm. Secondly, the weights and thresholds of T-S fuzzy neural network are optimized by using the improved genetic algorithm. Finally, on the basis of the real data set, the genetic optimization T-S fuzzy neural network is used to simulate and predict the irrigation volume for greenhouse tomatoes. The performance of the genetic algorithm improved T-S fuzzy neural network (GA-TSFNN), the traditional T-S fuzzy neural network algorithm (TSFNN), BP neural network algorithm(BPNN) and the genetic algorithm improved BP neural network algorithm (GA-BPNN) is compared by simulation. The simulation experiment results show that compared with the TSFNN, BPNN and the GA-BPNN, the error of the GA-TSFNN between the predicted value and the actual value of the irrigation volume is smaller, and the proposed method has a better prediction effect. This paper provides new ideas for the water-saving irrigation decision in greenhouse tomatoes.

  • The paper concerns Fuzzy C-Means clustering based fuzzy neural networks (FCM-FNN) and the optimization of the network is carried out by means of hierarchal fair competition-based parallel genetic algorithm (HFCPGA). FCM-FNN is the extended architecture of Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN). FCM algorithm is used to determine centers and widths of RBFs. In the proposed network, the membership functions of the premise part of fuzzy rules do not assume any explicit functional forms such as Gaussian, ellipsoidal, triangular, etc., so its resulting fitness values directly rely on the computation of the relevant distance between data points by means of FCM. Also, as the consequent part of fuzzy rules extracted by the FCM-FNN model, the order of four types of polynomials can be considered such as constant, linear, quadratic and modified quadratic. Since the performance of FCM-FNN is affected by some parameters of FCM-FNN such as a specific subset of input variables, fuzzification coefficient of FCM, the number of rules and the order of polynomials of consequent part of fuzzy rule, we need the structural as well as parametric optimization of the network. In this study, the HFCPGA which is a kind of multipopulation-based parallel genetic algorithms(PGA) is exploited to carry out the structural optimization of FCM-FNN. Moreover the HFCPGA is taken into consideration to avoid a premature convergence related to the optimization problems. The proposed model is demonstrated with the use of two representative numerical examples.

We could improve the learning performance of fuzzy controller by using PSO algorithm, which had recently showed its robust of performance while solving various difficult optimization problems. In other words, our aim was to forward the controller is performance by deciding fuzzy model structure that had good performance on optimization of the controller, based on PSO. During a simulation, we could see whether the mobile robot could convergence on the final goal or not, and also see the error, and through this process, we found out that this controller is more robust than the conventional controller.
