  • In fuzzy expert systems or database systems that have huge volumes of fuzzy data or large fuzzy rules, the inference time is much increased. Therefore, a high performance parallel fuzzy computing environment is needed. In this paper, we propose a parallel fuzzy inference mechanism in parallel computing environment. In this, fuzzy rules are distributed and executed simultaneously. The ONE_TO_ALL algorithm is used to broadcast the fuzzy input vector to the all nodes. The results of the MIN/MAX operations are transferred to the output processor by the ALL_TO_ONE algorithm. By parallel processing of fuzzy rules or data, the parallel fuzzy inference algorithm extracts effective parallel ism and achieves a good speed factor.

  • In this research, we proposed the mechanism to develop self evolving expert systems (SEES) based on data mining (DM), fuzzy neural networks (FNN), and relational database (RDB)-driven forward/backward inference engine. Most former researchers tried to develop a text-oriented knowledge base (KB) and inference engine (IE). However, thy have some limitations such as 1) automatic rule extraction, 2) manipulation of ambiguousness in knowledge, 3) expandability of knowledge base, and 4) speed of inference. To overcome these limitations, many of researchers had tried to develop an automatic knowledge extraction and refining mechanisms. As a result, the adaptability of the expert systems was improved. Nonetheless, they didn't suggest a hybrid and generalized solution to develop self-evolving expert systems. To this purpose, in this study, we propose an automatic knowledge acquisition and composite inference mechanism based on DM, FNN, and RDB-driven inference. Our proposed mechanism has five advantages empirically. First, it could extract and reduce the specific domain knowledge from incomplete database by using data mining algorithm. Second, our proposed mechanism could manipulate the ambiguousness in knowledge by using fuzzy membership functions. Third, it could construct the relational knowledge base and expand the knowledge base unlimitedly with RDBMS (relational database management systems). Fourth, our proposed hybrid data mining mechanism can reflect both association rule-based logical inference and complicate fuzzy logic. Fifth, RDB-driven forward and backward inference is faster than the traditional text-oriented inference.

  • A fuzzy inference logic system is proposed for gas turbine engine fault isolation. The gas path measurements used for fault isolation are exhaust gas temperature, low and high rotor speed, and fuel flow. The fuzzy inference logic uses rules developed from a model of performance influence coefficients to isolate engine faults while accounting for uncertainty in gas path measurements. Inputs to the fuzzy inference logic system are measurement deviations of gas path parameters which are transferred directly from the ECM(Engine Control Monitoring) program and outputs are engine module faults. The proposed fuzzy inference logic system is tested using simulated data developed from the ECM trend plot reports and the results show that the proposed fuzzy inference logic system isolates module faults with high accuracy rate in the environment of high level of uncertainty.

  • This paper deals with our proposed fuzzy inference method, in which the fuzzy relation is represented by the membership functions of the antecedent and consequent parts, it is not used any fuzzy composition. The strong point of this method is that the membership function of an inferred conclusion has a simple shape and thus its meaning can be interpreted easily. Firstly, the proposed method is explained, and then it is applied to fuzzy modeling of distributed data.

  • In this paper, a new design methodology named FNNN(Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Network) algorithm is proposed to identify the structure and parameters of fuzzy model using PNN(Polynomial Neural Network) structure and a fuzzy inference method. The PNN is the extended structure of the GMDH(Group Method of Data Handling), and uses several types of polynomials such as linear, quadratic and modified quadratic besides the biquadratic polynomial used in the GMDH. The premise of fuzzy inference rules defines by triangular and gaussian type membership function. The fuzzy inference method uses simplified and regression polynomial inference method which is based on the consequence of fuzzy rule expressed with a polynomial such as linear, quadratic and modified quadratic equation are used. Each node of the FPNN is defined as fuzzy rules and its structure is a kind of neuro-fuzzy architecture Several numerical example are used to evaluate the performance of out proposed model. Also we used the training data and testing data set to obtain a balance between the approximation and generalization of proposed model.

  • Fuzzy inference is very useful in expressing ambiguous problems quantitatively and solving them. But like the most of the knowledge based inference systems. It has many difficulties in constructing rules and no learning capability is available. In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy inference system based on fuzy associative memory to solve such problems. The inference system proposed in this paper is mainly composed of learning phase and inference phase. In the learning phase, the system initializes it's basic structure by determining fuzzy membership functions, and constructs fuzzy rules in the form of weights using learning function of fuzzy associative memory. In the inference phase, the system conducts actual inference using the constructed fuzzy rules. We applied the fuzzy inference system proposed in this paper to a pattern classification problem and show the results in the experiment.

  • In this paper, a framework for implementing UFIS (Unified Fuzzy rule-based knowledge Inference System) is presented. First, fuzzy clustering and fuzzy rules deal with the presence of the knowledge in DB (DataBase) and its value is presented with a value between 0 and 1. Second, RDB (Relational DB) and SQL queries provide more flexible functionality fur knowledge management than the conventional non-fuzzy knowledge management systems. Therefore, the obtained fuzzy rules offer the user additional information to be added to the query with the purpose of guiding the search and improving the retrieval in knowledge base and/ or rule base. The framework can be used as DM (Data Mining) and ES (Expert Systems) development and easily integrated with conventional KMS (Knowledge Management Systems) and ES.

  • Fuzzy logic ignores some information in the reasoning process. Neural networks are powerful tools for the pattern processing, but, not appropriate for the logical reasoning. To model human knowledge, besides pattern processing capability, the logical reasoning capability is equally important. Another new neural network called neural logic network is able to do the logical reasoning. Because the fuzzy inference is a fuzzy logical reasoning, we construct fuzzy inference network based on the neural logic network, extending the existing rule- inference. network. And the traditional propagation rule is modified. For the search strategies to find out the belief value of a conclusion in the fuzzy inference network, we conduct a simulation to evaluate the search costs for searching sequentially and searching by means of search priorities.

  • During the past decade, several specific hardwares for fast fuzzy inference have been developed. Most of them are dedicated to a specific inference method and thus cannot support other inference methods. In this paper, we present a hardware architecture called KAFA(KAist Fuzzy Accelerator) which provides various fuzzy inference methods and fuzzy set operators. The architecture has SIMD structure, which consists of two parts; system control/interface unit(Main Controller) and arithmetic units(FPEs). Using the parallel processing technology, the KAFA has the high performance for fuzzy information processing. The speed of the KAFA holds promise for the development of the new fuzzy application systems.
