Application of Self-Organizing Fuzzy Logic Controller to Nuclear Steam Generator Level Control

  • In this paper, the self-organizing fuzzy logic controller is developed for water level control of steam generator. In comparison with conventional fuzzy logic controllers, this controller performs control task with no control rules at initial and creates control rules as control behavior goes on, and also modifies its control structure when uncertain disturbance is suspected. Selected parameters in the fuzzy logic controller are updated on-line by the gradient descent loaming algorithm based on the performance cost function. This control algorithm is applied to water level control of steam generator model developed by Lee, et al. The computer simulation results confirm good performance of this control algorithm in all power ranges. This control algorithm can be expected to be used for automatic control of feedwater control system in the nuclear power plant with digital instrumentation and control systems.

  • Fuzzy information representation of multi-source spatial data is applied to landslide hazard mapping. Information representation based on frequency ratio and non-parametric density estimation is used to construct fuzzy membership functions. Of particular interest is the representation of continuous data for preventing loss of information. The non-parametric density estimation method applied here is a Parzen window estimation that can directly use continuous data without any categorization procedure. The effect of the new continuous data representation method on the final integrated result is evaluated by a validation procedure. To illustrate the proposed scheme, a case study from Jangheung, Korea for landslide hazard mapping is presented. Analysis of the results indicates that the proposed methodology considerably improves prediction capabilities, as compared with the case in traditional continuous data representation.

  • A inventory management system of the manufacturing industry has a model of different kinds according to the objective and the situation. A inventory management system needs superior system technique in demand forecast, economical efficiency, reliability and application for stable supply of the finished goods, the raw materials and the parts. This paper proposes a demand forecast method based on fuzzy structured neural network, which uses min-operation and trapezoid membership function of fuzzy rules. So we can have an intelligent inventory management system for optimized decision-making of forecasting data with expert's opinion in fuzzy environment. This inventory management system used an intelligence agent and it could be adapted to asystemenvironmentchangeinorder.

  • A speed controller of a induction motor using Microcontroller and Fuzzy logic is presented in the paper. Generally, fuzzy logic controller is known as a controller which can be coped with a non-linear and a complex system. A fuzzy logic is used for robust and fast speed control and space vector modulation method is used for PWM wave generation in this proposed system. The results of experiment show excellence of the proposed system and that the proposed system is appropriate to control the speed of a induction motor for industrial application.

  • The Induction motor Vector Control with PI controller has been widely used in industrial application. But PI control difficult in dealing with dynamic speed control, parameter variations, and load disturbances. Therefore, in this paper propose speed control of a induction motor using the PI controller with fuzzy controller. The proposed fuzzy PI controller increases the control performance of the PI controller. Simulation results show that fuzzy PI controller has a good robustness regarding the improper tuned PI controller.

  • In this paper, the development of an IMM(Injection Molding Machine) controller is discussed. Presently, the Mold Close and Open Control Method of a toggle-type IMM is open-loop control. Through the development, a PC based control system was built instead of an existing controller and a closed-loop control replaced the previous control method by using PC based PLC. To control the nonlinear system of toggle type clamping unit, a fuzzy PI control algorithm was selected and it was programmed by an IL(Instruction List) and a LD(Ladder Diagram) on a PC based PLC. The application of fuzzy algorithm as the control method was also considered to change a control object like a mold replacement or an additional apparatus. For the development of an IMM controller, PC based PLC of PCI card type, distributed I/O modules with CANopen and Industrial PC and HMI (Human Machine Interface) software were used.

  • In this paper, a robust fault detection method for varying temperature based on fuzzy model is proposed. To develop a robust force estimation model, it needs temperature information because the output of force sensor is affected by a temperature variation. The nonlinear dynamic system, such as the parking force of the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) system is necessary to have a higher order equation model. But, because of the calculation time, the higher order equation model is hard to be used in real application. In case of the lower order equation model, the result is not as accurate as acceptable. To solve this problem, the robust fuzzy model-based fault detection is developed. A proposed fault detection method for varying temperature is verified by HILS (hardware in the loop simulation).

  • Recent research on the application of fuzzy set theory to the design of control systems has led to interest in the theory of decomposition of multivariable fuzzy systems. Decomposition of multivariable control rules is preperable since it alleviates the complexity of the problem. However inference error is inevitable because of its approximate nature. In this paper we define an index of applicability which can classify whether the Gupta et. al's method can be applied to multivariable fuzzy system or not. We also propose a modified version of the decomposition which can reduce inference error and improve performance of the system.

  • In this paper, the design of an optimum single input Fuzzy controller for application in dc to ac converters is presented. Contrary to conventional Fuzzy controllers, the proposed controller has a smaller number of rules and tuning parameters but is capable of performing identically to a conventional controller. These benefits lead to a simpler controller design. The controller is designed as a PI controller for small-signal disturbances. However, for optimum large-signal performance, heuristic tuning is used. The tuning is less complicated and hence optimum large-signal performance is achievable. The system is simulated and a hardware prototype was developed for comparison purposes.
