  • On UX/UI fields, understanding emerging technology is important for preoccupancy of a future market. Most of emerging field searching methods are qualitative methods. However, it is suitable for large companies to adduce its milestone, not for small enterprises. Thus, this study aims at purposing the improvement of utilizability for research field searching processes. We draw core patents with modified patent citation data, apply the Girvan-Newman clustering method based on bibliographic coupling patent relationship and then, draw emerging technology research UX/UI fields. Finally, the results were validated in comparison with a report on emerging research.

  • Many organizations release future emerging technologies information because it is very important to companies. However, unfortunately there are few organizations who assess the emerging technologies they thought a few years ago. We made a framework for assessing the brightness of future emerging technologies rapidly and cost-effectively. We came up with 2 new concepts for it. One is product potential and the other is consumption potential. Product potential is relative probability that emerging technology is implemented to real products. It is resulted from analyzing patents related with emerging technology. Consumption potential is relative probability that consumers buy the products. The number of appearances of emerging technology in the mass media is related to consumption potential. We compared the brightness between LED and LCD technologies with proposed evaluating framework, and came to know that LCD has more brightness over LED.

  • Technology foresight is the process which investigate long term science, technology, economic and social effects to derive strategic R&D and future promising technologies. This study shows that new systematic framework based on technology classifications of space and action in human society, future six senses was employed as a new research method for effective process of future technology foresight. In addition, to increase the acceptance, forecasting, and uniqueness of new technology, we derived major issues of future society and demand-base products and services through the new process of ICT future mega trend analysis, the findings and selections of future technology, and future scenario based on human six senses.

  • Recently, it becomes essential for firms or nations to forecast the future and identify emerging technologies in order to improve R&D efficiency and gain a competitive advantage. Particularly, the mobile communications industry is characterized by rapid advance and wide application of its technology and thus identifying emerging technologies is more important in the industry than in others. Nevertheless, few attempts have been made to explore its emerging technologies. Therefore, this research aims to develop a methodology to identify the future and emerging technologies especially for the industry and applied it to list top ten emerging technologies for 2020 in the industry. For this purpose, firstly, we focused the key issues in the future targeting 2020 and identified user needs relating to them. Then, candidates of emerging technologies were defined from a set of technologies to meet the needs, for which technological and economic feasibility is assessed to determine their priorities. Finally, the top ten most important technologies were selected and verified. This research is distinct from the previous studies in that it takes a market-pull approach instead of a technology-push approach. The research results are expected to provide valuable information to support strategy- and policy-makings in the mobile communications industry.

  • As the paradigm of future vehicles changes, the interest in automotive semiconductor, which plays a key role in realizing this, is increasing. Automotive semiconductors are the technology with very high entry barriers that require a lot of effort and time because it must secure technology readiness level and also consider safety and reliability. In this technology field, it is very important to develop new businesses and create opportunities through technology trend analysis. However, systematic analysis and application of automotive semiconductor technology trends are currently lacking. In this paper, U.S. registered patent documents related to automotive semiconductor were collected and investigated based on the patent's IPC. The main technology of automotive semiconductor was analyzed through topic modeling, and the technology path such as emerging technology was investigated through cosine similarity. We identified that those emerging technologies such as driving control for vehicle and AI service appeared. We observed that as time passed, both convergence and independence of automotive semiconductor technology proceeded simultaneously.

  • Objectives: To evaluate results and workloads of the horizon scanning of the emerging health technology since 2014 to 2016. Methods: In order to analyze the results of the emerging health technology, we identified the number of research procedure between 2014 and 2016. The sixteen findings were calculated annual workload by person, and categorized by medical phase, classification of disease, and healthcare technology. Results: An average of 5.67 personnel were involved over three years, assessment of each emerging healthcare technology was performed for each person of identifying 54 cases, filtering 2.4 cases, prioritizing 0.9 cases were performed. According to the mapping by healthcare technologies, nine medical devices (56.3%), six drugs (37.5%), and one material of the medical treatment (6.3%) were assessed. Among sixteen findings, fifteen cases were health technologies for treatment and only one case for diagnosis. Conclusion: Future plans of the horizon scanning of the emerging health technology is required appropriate manpower in charge each target number of assessment. And a legal basis should be provided for policy reflection rate. Furthermore, an evaluation criteria and procedures should be transparent to avoid a conflict of interest.

  • The studies were conducted constantly to detect emerging technology, in order to make sustainable growth of business and to make development of future nations. But there were many controversies because definition of emerging technology might be dependent of the subject's viewpoint and because it might be different to a point of time that emerging technology is applied to the present or the future. This paper sets times of emerging technology to the present and defines emerging technology as patents significantly used in developing current technology. US Patents and patent citation data were gathered from 1976 to 2007. We constructed hot patents pools that were utilized actively in developing new technologies regardless of times. We built a mapping table from IPC classification code to WIPO 32 technology category and analysed a half-life cycle according to specific technology groups.

  • In recent years, the U.S, Japan, Europe and other developed countries are strategically developing technologies in order to prepare for paradigm shift affecting the electric power industry in a preemptive way. In particular, a chance for new business models and innovation in the electric power industry would rapidly increase with convergence of various technologies including Information and communication technologies. This study gathered up the theories and methodologies, and sorted out emerging technologies for the electric power industry with those theories. In order to find the emerging technologies, first, we identified the possible key issues of the electric power industry in the future using four mining techniques such as STEEP. Second, we drew agenda related with each key issue. Third, we organized candidates of the emerging technologies for solving the agenda and set the priority after evaluating the possibility of technical innovation and business. Finally, we selected the top fourteen of emerging technologies and assessed their feasibility. This study has a methodological significance because the emerging technologies were developed with a market-oriented approach rather than technical-push one that has been primarily used in another studies. The results of this study are able to be used in establishment of technology policy and R&D planning in the electric power industry.

  • Purpose: This study aims to induce interest in the future society that could change with the advance of the 4th Industrial Revolution. It also intends to identify the direction of university education by investigating the perception of university students majoring in dental laboratory technology about the latest technology used in this era. Methods: The study recruited 240 college students majoring in dental laboratory technology at K and D universities in Gangwon-do and Daejeon, respectively. Online and face-to-face surveys were conducted from March 20, 2022 to April 10, 2022. Results: Although their interest in the use of emerging technologies during the 4th Industrial Revolution was above average 3.85, the dental laboratory technology students exhibited relatively high levels of anxiety 3.19 and reluctance 2.96. Second, their interest in emerging technologies demonstrated positive correlations with major satisfaction and understanding of concepts and readiness, whereas reluctance and anxiety pointed to negative correlations with understanding of the concepts of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Conclusion: Formulating guidelines is necessary to help students increase their understanding of the 4th Industrial Revolution and prepare them appropriately by setting an educational direction that can flexibly respond to the rapidly changing industrial environment.
