This study intended to explore English of furniture tenn in relation to the joints and moldings in traditional Korean wood furniture, a base of Korean wood furniture, for the development of Korea furniture in the future. The joints such as butt joint, rabbeted joint, mitered joint, mortise-and-tenon joint, fist joint, and finger joint, and the moldings such as a piece of thread molding, half-circle molding, cove molding, flat molding, and triangle molding were analyzed between English and Korean language. The results were only basic terms which must be researched and unified in the traditional Korean furniture. Therefore, the terms in relation to the types, the details, the hardware, and so on, will have to be studied in terms of the meaning originated from the traditional craftsmen.

The study aimed at investigating the terms for each type of the current household furniture and at analyzing a standard based on those terms researched for the furniture, not including kitchen and child furniture. The study was conducted in sales and R&D division of major furniture brands such as Jang-In Gagu, Borneo, and Livart by surveying their staffs, and then, the investigated names were classified according to similar criteria and it was finally analyzed by the definite standard of the names made. In the results, the following 5 standards largely play roles for the naming. First, name according to requirements, second, construction of door, third, materials, fourth, shapes, and lastly, function. Except for the terms of "Sobari" expressed only as Japanese and "living room cabinet of Extension-type" using Korean and English along, most of the names show furniture in detail, and the names from Hangeul, Korean alphabet and from the English have recently and drastically increased with the lifestyle change influenced from Western world.

This study explored the philosophical Modernity with the Enlightenment in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism rooted in Modern furniture, which directly reflected modern culture and society with rationality, science, individualism, progressive, universal truths, etc, using qualitative analysis about the related literature as the principal methodology. A fundamental philosophy of the modern furniture influenced by Industrial Revolution is that the dictates of function and industrial technology must be decided by form. The theory and practice of the International Style in modern furniture came from the modern aesthetics in the philosophy of Modernity. As a result, as influenced through the Enlightenment project and the relationship of individual to society in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism, and the three modern movements with furniture, which are Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, represented the beginning style of modern furniture design toward functionalism or minimalism.

In designing furniture and interior accessories, a computer graphic program is normally used over the whole process of manufacturing furniture from idea stage to actual manufacturing stage. It especially play an important role in the modeling process which comes before actual manufacturing stage. in such modeling process, the most important part is expression of quality of material used and surface treatment method. Expression of material quality of wood and surface finishing just like an actual picture enable the designers to analogize the feeling of furniture and interior accessories more exactly over the whole process of actual manufacturing and such a result has positive effect on development field of furniture and accessories.

Today, as the standard of customers is getting higher, the period "Value Consumption" has come. "Brand Stretching" which is to expand business from own field of business to "Fusion Design", "Art Collaboration" focusing on diversified demand and emotion of consumer is in trend. Global fashion enterprise which is particularly sensitive to trend and influential to various field of business, has now transformed to total lifestyle enterprise and now started to show off furniture design to improve the value and image of the brand. This thesis has classified methodological types to apply furniture design and background of furniture design in fashion enterprise, analyzed and examined cases, and interpreted the possibility and direction of understanding to furniture design in various aspects.

The knobs of the Joseon dynasty furniture were mainly made with metal in its consideration about durability and decorative characteristics, small pieces of furniture, the Kori types of knobs, big furniture, that desires, descendants. Meanwhile huge furniture had Butchimdae which can be used also as the locking mechanisms, or just the locks which were used as handle. The handle type included the idea of shamanism that desiring health and longevity, scholarly spirit and prosperity of descendants, therefore the design metaphorically contained the shape of the long-living and prolific animals and plants. Even though traditional furniture were constructed as succinct proportions and simple decoration because of the affect of Confucianism. Therefore, we can notice the hope forefathers indwelling in the handles made of metal.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of traditional lacquered furniture and to suggest furniture design guideline. Subjects consisted of 336 residents aged up 20 years old in Seoul and Kyung-ki. area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA are presented. The result of this study showed that the traditional and environmental values of the traditional lacquered furniture were highly appraised. With a furniture plan, modernized and stylelike design was desired and the table type furniture were wanted. And preference of traditional lacquered furniture was distinct by sex and age groups. Women and older age group wanted more decorative and luxury design than other groups. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the traditional lacquered furniture design for users.

This study describes the furniture terms in English relating to the types (Jang, Nong, Bandazi) and hinges (Gyeongchup) of traditional Korean wood furniture considering furniture globalization. Traditional Western chest, commode, wardrobe, cupboard, secretary, cabinet, and bookcase, which store something such as clothing, books, tablewares, small things and so on, could be compared with the Jang, Non, and Bandazi in terms of the pieces' use in researching the terms between English and Korean language. Hardwares decorating surfaces of the pieces, including the furniture types and details, were studied according to the shapes and the uses in order to explore the two terms. As a result, the terms of chest (Gaew), commode (Seolapjang), cupboard/buffet (Chanjang), wardrobe (Ottjang), cabinet (Jang), secretary (Jang), bookcase (Checkjang), and Half-opened chest (Bandazi) were analyzed and proposed in Korean and English language. In addition, the terms of the hinges between the two furniture were studied as well.

One of the conspicuous changes in kitchens is that kitchen space is more economically constructed than ever before giving more considerations to functionality. At the same time, eco-friendliness begins enjoying more attention for health and well-being reasons. Which is more important between functionality and eco-friendliness is a matter of personal taste and judgement. But eco-friendliness has become one of the more critical criteria for users to choose kitchen furniture. This paper examines the design trends of Contemporary kitchen furniture from the perspective of functionality and eco-friendliness. Results show that, as has been expected, many of kitchen furniture items manufactured by major furniture businesses have been found more functional and more eco-friendly than before the research period. I expect this trend to continue long into the future.

Modern Art Furniture has been represented new idea and energy for futuristic furniture design by interacting and confronting with 3 points of view, which are; the idea and emotion of art, the form and concept of design, and the technique and materials of craft. Besides, meanings of modern Art Furniture are also can be described as followed. First, offend of concept of furniture design area to art, second, help to raise the social status of people by making art to be popularized, third, present a new direction of futuristic furniture design culture. Art Furniture design area, which has been trying to make a constant approach to human consideration and sensibility, leads new furniture design culture as an independent art genre in this 21st Century.
