  • Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC), also known as autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), is a lightweight, precast building material that simultaneously provides structure, insulation. ALC is a unique building material. Because of its cellular nature, it is lightweight, self-insulating, as well as sound and fireproof. ALC products include blocks, wall panels, floor and roof panels, and lintels. Recently, the use of ALC has became increasingly popular. However, ALC have high water absorption, low compressive strength and popout the origin of the low surface strength in its properties. Thus, this study is to improve the fundamental strength by controls of increasing of admixtures and chemical reactants. Admixtures make use of meta kaolin and silica fume, chemical reactants make use of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide. From the test result, the ALC using admixtures and chemical reactants have a good fundamental properties compared with plain ALC. These good fundamental properties is caused by the admixtures and chemical reactants of ALC by the reason of the micro filling effect and chemical binding of C-S-H gel, tobermolite and quartz.

  • The sulfuric acid may react with the hardened cement paste and originate expansive products which can induce swelling and disaggregation of concrete. The purpose of this study is to estimate the antibacterial performance of antibiotics and the effect of absorbed condition of restorative mortar, the number of coating times and coating contents with antibiotic on the fundamental properties of restorative mortar spead with antibiotics. Also, testing items such as bonding strength, abrasion contents, contents of water absorption, contents of air permeability was tested to estimate the fundamental properties in this study. In results, the novellus bacillus inhabiting in sewer concrete structures was restrained by antibiotics developed in this study. And bonding strength of restorative mortar spread with antibiotics was similla to that of plain mortar. But, resistance to abrasion, water absorption and air permeability of restorative mortar spread with antibiotics was superior to that of plain mortar.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the wood properties for development the proper uses of lesser-known tree species. The tested species are Tamiang(Hydnocarpus woodii) Bangelem (Strombosia zeylanica) and Kamasulan(Anisophyllea ferruginea) grown in Indonesia. fundamental wood properties such as anatomical, physical and chemical properties and characteristics related to wood processing were examined. The results are summarized as follows : These species are diffuse porous, interlocked grained and coarse textured wood. Exceptionally, texture of Tamiang is fine. The heartwoods of these species are not distinguished clearly to the sapwoods. These species have high specific gravity, high shrinkage, and excellent strength properties. However, Tamiang has moderate specific gravity. Sawing characteristics are poor for these species except Tamiang. Sawing characteristics is moderate for Tamiang. Drying characteristics are moderate for Tamiang and Bangelem, and Poor for Kamasulan. The surfacing characteristics by planer are moderate f3r all these species. Bending property and durability are poor. Ash content is low in Bangelem.

  • Various properties of digital covering spaces have been substantially used in studying digital homotopic properties of digital images. In particular, these are so related to the study of a digital fundamental group, a classification of digital images, an automorphism group of a digital covering space and so forth. The goal of the present paper, as a survey article, to speak out utility of digital covering theory. Besides, the present paper recalls that the papers [1, 4, 30] took their own approaches into the study of a digital fundamental group. For instance, they consider the digital fundamental group of the special digital image (X, 4), where X := $SC^{2,8}_4$ which is a simple closed 4-curve with eight elements in $Z^2$, as a group which is isomorphic to an infinite cyclic group such as (Z, +). In spite of this approach, they could not propose any digital topological tools to get the result. Namely, the papers [4, 30] consider a simple closed 4 or 8-curve to be a kind of simple closed curve from the viewpoint of a Hausdorff topological structure, i.e. a continuous analogue induced by an algebraic topological approach. However, in digital topology we need to develop a digital topological tool to calculate a digital fundamental group of a given digital space. Finally, the paper [9] firstly developed the notion of a digital covering space and further, the advanced and simplified version was proposed in [21]. Thus the present paper refers the history and the process of calculating a digital fundamental group by using various tools and some utilities of digital covering spaces. Furthermore, we deal with some parts of the preprint [11] which were not published in a journal (see Theorems 4.3 and 4.4). Finally, the paper suggests an efficient process of the calculation of digital fundamental groups of digital images.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to investigate the fundamental properties of limestone added cement concrete for application of pavement. METHODS : As the production of Portland cement causes environmental problems, engineers have sought more environment-friendly concrete construction materials. Limestone powder can be used for concrete as a partial replacement of Portland cement. One of the great applications of limestone powder added cement concrete might be a cement concrete pavement since the concrete pavement consumes massive quantity of Portland cement. Experimental variables were different replacement level of limestone powder by 0% to 25% with 5% increment. Before hardening of fresh concrete, setting time and plastic shrinkage characteristics were investigated in addition to other basic properties. Properties of hardened concrete included compressive, tensile and flexural strength as well as drying shrinkage. RESULTS : The addition of limestone powder did not significantly affect the properties of fresh concrete. Strength deceased as the replacement ratio increased and when the replacement ratio was greater than 10% decrease rate increased. CONCLUSIONS : It was found that the partial replacement of the limestone powder to cement in pavement materials can be positively considered as its mechanical properties show comparable performance to those normal concrete.

  • Generally speaking, grouting on the base stabilizes the ground as the aspects of mechanic and engineering properties, with drilling hole at any depth of the earth, and pressuring the cement milk or special chemical grouting material in it. The purpose of grouting on the base is waterproofness and solidification of the ground by earth concreting that the cement milk pass through paticles of soil or crack of rock. This report shows the fundamental properties of microcement compared with those of ordinary portland cement in a point of grouting. It also describes that experimental applications on the treatment of the weathered rock at the constructior of Taegu subway and Boryong earth filled dam site, south of chungchung province, resulted in success.

  • This study investigated influence of kind of fine aggregate on fundamental properties of concrete. For the properties of fluidity with various type of fine aggregate, lime stone crushed fine aggregate(Ls) exhibited favorable result, due to grain shape and particle distribution, and next was granite crushed fine aggregate(Gs), natural fine aggregate(Ns). Ns had the highest value of air content while Ls had the lowest, due to the effective filling performance by continuos particle distribution. Ls, Ns, Gs in an order had higher bleeding capacity and faster setting time. However, compressive and tensile strength value exhibited similar tendency, regardless of aggregate type.

  • Laboratory testing of representative rock specimens is of fundamental necessity for the successful design and/or assessment of facilities associated with many kinds of underground exploitation, including the geological disposal of radioactive nuclear waste. As a fundamental and systematic study, a series of measurements of the physical, mechanical and hydraulic properties of Inada granite and Shirahama sandstone, two rock types that are widely available in Japan, have been performed. This paper presents the results of a study of the effective porosity, density, compressive and shear wave velocity, unconfined compressive strength and permeability of the two rocks. The anisotropy and the effects of confining pressure on the permeability of the rocks, as well as the relationships among the physical, mechanical and hydraulic properties, are also investigated and discussed.
