  • In the present work, we present the optimized the hybrid structures of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and metal nanocomposites including Cu, Al, Co and Ni using the first principle calculations based on the density functional theory. Introduction of CNTs into a metal matrix has been considered to improve the mechanical properties of the metal matrix. However, the binding energy between metals and pristine CNTs wall is known to be so small that the interfacial slip between CNTs and the matrix occurs at a relatively low external stress. The application of defective or functionalized CNTs has thus attracted great attention to enhance the interfacial strength of CNT/metal nanocomposites. Herein, we design the various hybrid structures of the single wall CNT/metal complexes and characterize the interaction between single wall CNTs and various metals such as Cu, Al, Co or Ni. First, differences in the binding energies or electronic structures of the CNT/metal complexes with the topological defects, such as the Stone-Wales and vacancy, are compared. Second, the characteristics of functionalized CNTs with various surface functional groups, such as -O, -COOH, -OH interacting with metals are investigated. We found that the binding energy can be enhanced by the surface functional group including oxygen since the oxygen atom can mediate and reinforce the interaction between carbon and metal. The binding energy is also greatly increased when it is absorbed on the defects of CNTs. These results strongly support the recent experimental work which suggested the oxygen on the interface playing an important role in the excellent mechanical properties of the CNT-Cu composite[1].

  • Axiomatic Design is the one of many useful methods for making a good design. In this method, the independency of Functional Requirements (FRs) is an important property to determine whether the design is good or not. Until now so many designers have decided the independency between FRs by their own decisions. The way depending on inspiration is simple and fast, but it can not be considered as a precise conclusion. Also there are not exact rule that evaluate the quantitative independence between FRs. This paper will show the way to evaluate the quantitative independence of FRs from the comparison between FRs of lower levels, and develop more efficient and objective tool in Axiomatic Design.

  • In this work, the surface of inorganic fillers were modified with some functional groups such as stearic acid, aliphatic long chain, vinylsilane and aminosilane to control the interaction between inorganic fillers and polymer matrix. Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA) with various amount of vinyl-acetate content and copolyether-ester elastomer were used as polymer matrix. The addition of inorganic fillers increases flame retardancy, but results in steep drop of electrical and mechanical properties, which may be caused by the defect in the interface between organic/inorganic hybrid composites. The hybrid composites are found to show better mechanical properties and higher volume resistivities as inorganic fillers are well dispersed and have good adhesion with polymer matrix. Also, the most effective type of functional group coated on fillers depends on the chemical structure of polymer.

  • Metal-Metal Matrix(M$^{3}$) layout is a recently proposed layout style which uses minimum amount of poly wires for high speed operation. In this paper we propose a method of generating functional modules in M$^{3}$ layout style. In the proposed method the transistors and the input/output lines of the given circuit are first placed in M$^{3}$ layout style and then they are interconnected using two metal layers. We develop a new placement method by simulated annealing, and we modify the well known channel routing method for the interconnections. When we applied our method to several logic circuits, the area of the generated layout is smaller than the ones by the previously known method. Our results also compares favorably to the other layout styles like gate matrix layout.

  • DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) is the data storage media devised to make high storage density and high speed data input/output possible. For example, a whole length movie can be stored in a disk as large as a CD(Compact Disk). Therefore higher rotational speed and better accuracy in optical pick-up are required compared with the existing optical storage device. Without these operational functional requirements being satisfied DVD will lose its place as the high capacity storage device. This paper evaluated whether the currently developed DVD satisfies the requirements and provides improved methods with the Axiomatic Approach which is superb in evaluating and designing newly concepted designs.

  • This paper deals with a sampled-data tracking control problem for the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system with external disturbances. We derive a stability condition guaranteeing both asymptotic stability and H-infinity tracking performance by employing a newly proposed time-dependent line-integral fuzzy Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. A new integral inequality is also introduced, by which the proposed stability condition is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a simulation example.

  • In this paper, we build a theoretical framework for quantitatively measuring and graphically representing the degrees of closeness centralization among performers assigned to enact a workflow procedure. The degree of closeness centralization of a workflow-performer reflects how near the performer is to the other performers in enacting a corresponding workflow model designed for workflow-supported organizational operations. The proposed framework comprises three procedural phases and four functional transformations, such as discovery, analysis, and quantitation phases, which carry out ICN-to-WsoN, WsoN-to-SocioMatrix, SocioMatrix-to-DistanceMatrix, and DistanceMatrix-to-CCV transformations. We develop a series of algorithmic formalisms for the procedural phases and their transformative functionalities, and verify the proposed framework through an operational example. Finally, we expatiate on the functional expansion of the closeness centralization formulas so as for the theoretical framework to handle a group of workflow procedures (or a workflow package) with organization-wide workflow-performers.
