The purpose of this study was to describe mother -infant interacting behavior patterns related to newborn infant feeding and to explore the mother's cultural belief about their infant. The data collection was conducted by observation and interview. Twenty-five mothers and their newborn infants who were normally delivered and were also planned to breast feed were comprised as the subjects of this study. All subjects were interviewed and observed individuaily at 1 to 5 days after the delivery at the hospital, mid -wife's clinic, Maternal Child Health Center and their home throughout the country from remote area to big city, The observation data were recorded with symbolic letter on a recording sheet newly developed as a result of preliminary study. The interview data were taperecorded and then recorded in narrative form. Mother - infant interaction behaviors in early feeding period were analyzed based on 19 analytic sub-categories and their composing elements. Unit of analysis were mother, infant and mother -infant dyad. 8 analytic categories draw from the data. Each were preparation, instrument, interaction inducing, evaluation referred to mother's behavior, preparation, instrument, interaction inducing referred to infant's behavior and synchronic behaviors referred to mother - infant dyad. Frequencies of behavior items based on the categories were converted to percent. The result showed that in mother's preparation behavior, the breast condition of Korean mother can be an affecting factor for mother - infant interaction during feeding, and vocalization behavior was observed most frequently in interaction inducing behavior while the least frequent behavior observed was contacting. Subcultural characteristics of mother - infant interaction behaviors were analyzed for their relationships between groups of mothers who have lived in remote area vs urban area, and who were multipara vs primipara. Using a chi -square test, there were statistically significant relationships in the activity of psychological readiness in preparation behavior and the movement of extremities for the position of instrumental behavior in both groups. However, interaction inducing behaviors were not related with statistical significance in any set of groups. Accomplishment of marriage, bonding and emotional mediation of family members were the categories related to mother's cultural belief about the infant in aspect of functional values. Infant at birth is considered little more than a biological organism without social capabilities. Although the newborn infant is still be attached to his mother, he makes his mother extend her territoriality. The mother's interacting behavior toward her infant based on those beliefs appeared task oriented, separative behavioral series. On the other hand, it was seen that infant reacted independently to his mother's behavior by the in-nate perceptual abilities. Those independent behavioral series of mother and infant on the feeding situation were synchronized at any moment. Nurses are In a unique position to teach mothers about their infant's capabilities and help reducing some of uncertainty about infant's behaviors. Study results indicated that the informations infant's social capabilities and breast feeding should be given to the mothers. The results of this study have several implications for nursing. First, the study results will be used as fundamental resources for the development of the assessment tool about the early mother - infant interaction. Second, the results could be a relevant information in the fied. I of maternal child nursing education as real and useful data. Third, the behavioral patterns of early mother - infant interaction which were classified based on the qualitative analysis could be used for nursing theory development as very fundamental data.
Amid the rapid growth in use of portal news, this study examined whether portal news would substitute traditional news media, in particular newspapers and television news. To answer the research question, this study attempted to investigate how the decrease in use of traditional news media was associated with online news use, reliance on, and motivations for portal news. First, this study found that there was a negative and significant relationship between the Internet use and television news viewing, suggesting that those who are more likely to use the Internet are less likely to watch television news programs. Also, portal news was negatively associated with time spent with newspaper reading, while it was not related to television news viewing. Second, this study found that convenience/information-seeking needs appeared as the major motivations for using portal news, which were negatively and significantly associated with the decreased time spent with watching television news programs. In other words, those who used portal news for convenience/information-seeking needs are less likely to watch television news programs, which may indicate that portal news could be a substitute for television news in terms of convenience/information-seeking motivations. In addition, the result of this study showed that there was a complementary relationship between portal news and newspapers in terms of surveillance needs. Those findings could be explained by the concept of "functional similarity" in the process of media substitution. Based on the findings, implications of this study were discussed.
China, a leader of regional economies in North-East Asia, helps to integrate a single shipping market and affects diversely main ports in the region through affecting the flows of container transshipment, strategies of shipping companies for port calling and shipping networks. This study examines competition and cooperation among the hub ports in the region through studying examples of the three Chinese hub ports -Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tianjin- and concludes some implications of status change of hub ports in the region after scrutinising development process of the Chinese main hub ports and the historic interaction of port development among these ports. The characteristics of growth pattern of three ports are as follows. The port of Hong Kong constructs step by step the container facilities in accordance with demand growth and prefers stabilisation of operation and management through scale enlargement of port facilities. Even though demand grows continually, the port of Shanghai continued its defensive attitude towards facility expansion till the 1990s and has tried to get economies of scale in enlargement of port facilities. The port of Tianjin, similarly as the two other ports, expands serially its facilities and utilizes the capacity concentration and functional specialisation of facilities. The analysis of panel data and panel regression of three hub ports implicates that each port has its own specific demand and shows that the interaction of container handling among three ports was weak in 1980s and has become stricter and stronger since 1990.

In this study, we investigated the characteristics, the mapping understanding, the mapping errors, and the perceptions of student-generated analogies on the separation of mixtures using the sizes of particles by elementary school students' approaches to learning. Fourth graders (N=92) were selected and administered with the tests on the approaches to learning, self-generating analogies, and perception of self-generating analogies. The results revealed that the meaningful learners made more analogies, especially structural/functional, enriched, and higher systematic ones than the rote learners. However, there were little difference in students' approaches to learning in the subcategories of representation (verbal, pictorial, and verbal/pictorial), artificiality (artificial and everyday), and abstraction (abstract and concrete). The meaningful learners had deeper understanding of the analogy and fewer mapping errors than the rote learners. In addition, the numbers of the shared attributes included in student-generated analogies and the scores of the mapping understanding of the meaningful learners were significantly higher than those of the rote learners. Many students, regardless of students' approaches to learning, had positive perceptions of the self-generating analogies in various cognitive and motivational aspects. However, they also point out the various difficulties in the self-generating analogies as their disadvantages. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
This study was conducted to verify the relationships among the image of middle-low price chain hotels, service quality, consumption value, and customer emotion by using the AMOS 22.0 statistic package program. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling methods employed for identifying the formulated hypothesis model. According to results, first, it is seen that the image of middle-low price chain hotels has positive effect on the service quality. Second, the image of middle-low price chain hotels has positive effect on the consumption value, and the consumption value has positive effect on the service quality. Third, the service quality does not have positive effect on the customer emotion. Last, the image of middle-low price chain hotels has positive effect on the customer emotion. In this study, we attempted to establish the management strategy device of middle-low price chain hotels by analyzing how the image of middle-low price chain hotels affect the service quality, consumption value, and customer emotion. As a result, when it comes to the service quality according to the image of middle-low price chain hotels, the conviction, in other words, the belief of the hotel staffs was the biggest one. In addition, when it comes to the consumption value according to the image of middle-low price chain hotels, the functional value, the kind service of the hotel staffs was seen as the highest satisfaction. More practical and theoretical implications for developing marketing strategy in context of middle-low price chain hotels has been suggested in conclusions.
Among the various contemporary issues that confront the nation or society, surely one of the most difficult to resolve are environmental disputes between government authorities, developers, local residents and advocacy groups. While such disputes can in some cases be the result of a selfish and illegal NIMBY("Not In My Back Yard") syndrome, they can also be an expression of rational and appropriate demands from local residents to preserve the ecology and quality of life for their communities, particularly with respect to the planning of "locally unwanted land uses(LULUs). Accordingly, rethinking NIMBYism entails several implications for planning of LULUs. Until the 20th century many planners considered only "functional rationality" in their decision making, in a confrontational "us versus them"process of "decide-announce-defend(DAD)". I believe, however, that a fair, voluntary, and negotiated process of alternative dispute resolution(ADR) based on consensus building is the means to resolving these disputes. A voluntary process is more desirable and feasible than a coercive one, making ADR well worth pursuing. From this perspective, I explore several factors which affect the resolution of environmental disputes. I suggest three main factors as follows: i) extension of citizen participation, ii) enhancement of equity, and iii) building of trust. Alternatives are presented based on these factors.
The changes of forest habitats and maeulsoops(village forests) in Jinan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea are examined using landscape indices and morphological pattern analysis, and their landscape-ecological implications on conserving biological diversity are presented. We used FRAGSTATS and GUIDOS software, as well as land cover maps(of 1989 and 2006) to analyze the spatial and temporal patterns of habitat composition and configuration in surrounding landscapes of 34 representative maeulsoops and Jinan-gun. The results showed decreases in the amount of core habitats and corridors and habitat connectivity at a regional scale since 1989. In addition, multi-scale habitat analysis at a focal scale revealed that the structural and functional connectivity between forest habitats surrounding maeulsoops of the year 2006 was lower than that of the year 1989. In order to reduce forest fragmentation and to enhance the connectivity among habitats, it is necessary to provide the additional habitat corridors as well as preserving existing corridors and surrounding landscapes of maeulsoops. We also suggest that a combination of landscape indices and morphological spatial pattern analysis can provide an effective tool to assess the habitat functions and configuration in a rapidly changing landscape.

The primary objectives of this research is to identify (1) demographic characteristics and job needs of women with disabilities in Korea and (2) factors that predicts the degrees of their job needs. This study uses the data based on interviews with 805 disabled women selected randomly from the registered disabled women in Seoul, Kuyngki-Do, Pusan, and Kuyngsangnam-Do. In the aspect of disabilities, this study showed that more than half of disabled women in our sample have very severe disabilities (1st degree and 2nd degree of disabilities) and needs others' help in their daily lives. In the demographic aspect, this study found that disabled women's education level is very low and their monthly income is also very low. This study also found that in spite of their disabilities and functional limitations, more than 3/4 of disabled women have needs about jobs. Finally, using logistic regression analysis, this study found that disabled women's type of disabilities, dependencies in daily life, age, job experiences, job training experiences, willingness for independence, and parental attitude about disabled women's future are statistically significant in predicting the degree of their job needs. This study will contribute to developing knowledge about disabled women's characteristics and provide practical implications for intervention strategies and assistance programs related to promoting their welfare.
This study inquired following research questions by a narrative research method : What was the job of an engineer in mechanical design field? How did he fulfill his job-related learning in his workplace? What were the context and the characteristic of the job-related learning in the workplace? And some implications of the job-related learning on engineering education were discussed. We identified that the research participant's career as a mechanical engineer has developed through three stages. At first, he engaged on conceptual design of a semi-conductor test machine through self-initiated learning from basic to whole system of the machine. At second stage, he leaded a design group for the concrete design of a ball type semi-conductor test machine. In this stage he learned the meaning of cooperation and cooperative learning. At third stage, he initiated to found an entrepreneur company that was specified to design a semi-conductor test machine. He became CEO of the company. He learned the R & D policy making through contacts with global company, visiting exhibition in abroad. Eventually his main task as a mechanical engineer was the problem solving in the process of machine design. He had experienced and learned through his works : project management, independent fulfilling of tasks, functional analysis and reverse engineering, conceptualizing and test, cohesive cooperation, dialogue and discussion, mediation of conflict, human relationship, leadership. The implication of the narrative analysis on engineering education is, proposed, to give the students more chances to experience and to learn such activities.
The algebra is an important tool influencing on a mathematics in general. To make good use of the algebra, it is necessary to transfer from a given situation to a proper algebraic representation. But some research in related to algebraic word problems have reported the difficulty changing to a proper algebraic representation. Our study have focused on transformation and elaboration of algebraic representation. We investigated in detail the responses and perceptions of 29 Grade 7 students while transforming to algebraic representation, only concentrating on the literature expression form the problematic situations given. Most of students showed difficulties in transforming both descriptive and geometric problems to algebraic representation. 10% of them responded wrong answers except only a problem. Four of them were interviewed individually to show their thinking and find the factor influencing on a positive elaboration. As results, we could find some characteristics of their thinking including the misconception that regard the problem finding a functional formula because there are the variables x and y in the problematic situation. In addition, we could find the their fixation which student have to set up the equation. Furthermore we could check that making student explain own algebraic representation was able to become the factor influencing on a positive elaboration. From these, we also discussed about several didactical implications.
