Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between headache and gastric dysmotility in patients with functional dyspepsia by using electrogastrogram and bowel sounds analysis. Methods : 127 patients(male 40, female 87) with functional dyspepsia were enrolled. By using inquiry and the questionnaire, we examined whether each patient had headache and abdominal pain. All patients were divided into 4 groups according to the above symptoms. Gastric motility was measured during the fasting-postprandial state by using electrogastrogram and bowel sounds analysis. Results : 33 patients complained of headache. There was a significant difference between headache patients and non-headache patients in gastric arrhythmia of the fasting state. Moreover, in headache patients without abdominal pain, postprandial improvement of gastric arrhythmia was poorer than the other groups. So, headache patients without abnormal pain had more severe gastric myoelectrical rhythm disorder than headache patients with abdominal pain. Conclusion : Headache could be one of symptoms induced by gastric dysmotility in patients with functional dyspepsia. Especially, headache in functional dyspepsia was related to gastric arrhythmia.
A clinical analysis was carried out for 37 patients who was treated for functional headache with HWANGRYUNHAEDOKTANG(黃連解毒湯) herb-acupuncture in Seoul Red-Cross Oriental Hospital. The results were as follows; 1. The effect of HWANGRYUNHAEDOKTANG(黃連解毒湯) herb-acupuncture for functional headache was turned out to be better effective the young and middle age than the old. 2. Man was better effective than woman 3. There were effective at tention headache and migraine. 4. There were effective within 6 monthes from onset. 5. There were availability in according with increasing treatment. Through the clinical consequences of therapy mentioned above, we came to confirm regular therapeutic effects for functional headache and hereafter, it is considered that a clinical comparative study on oriental cure and herb-acupuncture therapy for headache has to be more progressed than now.
After performing the auricular acupuncture therapy for the functional headache, we came to gain the following therapy effects. 1. In the whole of the patients of the functional headache, housewives of forties were most of all. 2. In the classification of mordern medicine on the patients of the functional headache, muscular contractional headache was most of all and in the classification of oriental differentiation of symtoms and signs(辨證), headache due to deficiency of blood(血虛頭痛) was most of all. 3. In the regional auricular acupuncture therapy for the functonal headache, Taiyang of auricular point(太陽點) had an effect on the lateral headache around the area of Taiyang of auricular point(太陽點) though the actions of sedation, analgesia, Neck of auricular point(頸點) had an effect on the muscular contractional headache of the occipital region, and Stomach of auricular point(胃點) had an effect on the headache of stagnation of phlegm(痰濁頭痛) of anterior region with a chronic digestive disease. 4. The average treatment times of the auricular acupuncture therapy in the patients of the functional headache was 4.08 times, if we have them take auricular acupuncture therapy about 4 times it could be thought to take excellent effect of treatment. 5. The effect of auricular acupuncture therapy for functional headache was turned out to be effective in the following orders ; lateral region(Group A), occipital region(Group B), anterior region(group C). Through the clinical consequences of therapy mentioned above, we came to confirm regular therapeuric effects and hereafter, it is considered that a clinical comparative study on oriental cure and auricular acupuncture therapy for headache has to be more progressed than now.
Objectives : We studied the aspects of headache in the patients with stroke. We compared character of headache on stroke with functional one. Methods : The subject of this study was based on 63 patients with headache who were admitted to the oriental hospital after stroke. We analyzed patients into sex & age, month, severity of headache on stroke type & lesion, site & character of headache. associated symptoms & signs on headache state. Results : The age of headache with stroke is higher than general headache. There was significant differences between general headache and headache with stroke. The cerebral hemorrhage is severer than cerebral infaction in th pain of headache. The most frequently appeared site of headache is temporal area and associated symptoms is vertigo & nausea. Conclusions : The headache of stroke patient is different form functional headache. because of cerebral vascular accident influence on inducing headache. Therefore we should study different methods between the headache of stroke patient and the others in medical treatment.

Objectives: Since we found patients with dyspepsia as their major symptom had high rate of headache, would like to find out a rational diagnosis ground by using EAV correlation between headache and gastrointestinal disorder Methods: We did survey and EAV inspection on 128 patients came by gastrointestinal disorder who quoted 4 and 5 degree for their headache symptoms) Results & Conclusion The results of this study were as follows: 1. From dyspepsia, we saw higher rate by order of epigastric discomfort, bloating, stomach trouble, bleching, etc. 2. By EAV analysis, found functional deterioration by order of stomach, nerval degeneration vessel, gall bladder/bile duct, liver. 3. By EAV analysis, functional deterioration of stomach, gall bladder/bile duct, liver represent dyspepsia and nerval degeneration vessel represent headache. We found the correlation between dyspepsia and headache by observation at a time.

Objectives : This study sought to define autonomic functional difference on heart rate variability between headache patients and normal subjects Methods : We determined, heart rate variability of 52 headache patients and 30 normal subjects by means of three time domain measures: Mean PR(mean pulse rate), SDNN(standard deviation of all normal R-R intervals), RMSSD(the square root of the mean of sum of the squares of differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals), and five frequency domain measures: TP(total power), VLF(very low frequency), LF(low frequency), HF(high frequency). Results : 1) RMSSD, TP, HF, HF Norm of HRV decreased with aging and LF Norm, LF/HF increased with aging in headache patients. 2) There was no significant differences between migraine and tention headache in any standard index of HRV, whereas, HRV of total headache patients were smaller than those of normal subjects. 3) In the gender comparison, SDNN, RMSSD, HF of tention headache patients were the smallest and then migraine patients, normal subjects in order with man, whereas, LF Norm, LF/HF of normal subjects were the smallest with man. RMSSD of migraine patients were the smallest and then tention headache patients, normal subjects in order with women. 4) In the term of history of headache patients, SDNN, RMSSD were getting lower as long term. 5) There was no significant differences of HRV in physical symptom of headache patients. Conclusions : All of these results show that standard index of HRV of headache patients were significantly different with normal subjects.
Background: Although the frequency and intensity of headaches decrease in older adults, headaches in this population are still an important neurological disorder. The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations of headache characteristics in older adults with the development of cardiovascular disease and cognitive dysfunction. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 125 older (${\geq}65$ years old) patients with headache who were making their first visit to outpatient clinics and who had no prior history of cognitive dysfunction from 11 hospitals in Korea between August 2014 and February 2015. We investigated the occurrence of newly developed/or recurrent headache, cardiovascular disease, cognitive dysfunction, and poor functional outcomes. Results: The mean age of all included patients was 72.6 years, 68.8% were women, and 43 (34.4%) had newly developed/or recurrent headache during follow-up. During a median follow-up of 31 months (interquartile range, 28-34 months), 21 participants (16.8%) experienced cardiovascular disease, and 26 (20.8%) developed cognitive dysfunction. Upon multivariate analysis and after adjusting for sex, age, and other factors, presence of newly developed/or recurrent headache was found to be associated with cardiovascular disease (hazard ratio [HR], 4.03; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.28-12.61; p=0.017) and frequency of headache for the recent 3 months was related with cognitive dysfunction (HR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.00-1.09; p=0.017) and poor functional outcomes (HR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.01-1.11; p=0.011). Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cognitive dysfunction, and poor functional outcomes in older patients with frequent, newly developed, or recurrent headache.
Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HHT(Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture) on functional headache. Methods : 26 clinical experiment participants who experienced functional headache were gathered. The qualified patients were classified in two group, Normal saline injection group and Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture group. NS group was injected normal saline and HHT group was injected HHT at GB20, GB21, LI4. Treatment was applied 4 times every second day. The effects of both groups were analyzed using VAS scores and BPI(Brief Pain Inventory). Result : The VAS pain scores improved in both groups. the BPI scores decreased only in HHT group. The decrease rate of VAS scores and BPI scores was larger in HHT group. Conclusion : These results provided that HHT group is more effective than NS group. For clearly comparing the Effect of Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture on functional headache, it is need more sample's number and more treatment's duration.
Objective: Chronic migraine is a headache syndrome accompanied by nausea, dyspepsia, depression, and insomnia and it reduces the quality of life. The present case revealed that Korean medicine treatment and Functional Cerebrospinal Therapy (FCST) can reduce headache and nausea in patients with chronic migraine. Method: A 39-year-old female patient with chronic migraine visited Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital. She had headache combined with moderate nausea and wanted to reduce her dose of almotriptan. We treated her with Korean medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and a Chuna treatment based on FCST. We evaluated her symptoms using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for headache and nausea every day. Result: After 22 days of treatment, the NRS of headache and nausea had reduced. Her dose of almotriptan was also reduced and the patient felt improvement of in her quality of life. Conclusion: We suggest that Korean medicine treatment combined with FCST can improve the headache and nausea of chronic migraine patients.
