The continuous glass fiber reinforced poly-lactic acid (PLA) composite was manufactured by direct melt impregnation. The mechanical and thermal properties of continuous glass fiber reinforced PLA composite were observed. Measured properties were compared with the reference values of neat PLA and the injection molded glass fiber/ PLA composite. The continuous glass fiber reinforced PLA composite having a fiber volume fraction of 27.7% shows enhanced tensile strength of 331.1 MPa, flexural strength of 528.6 MPa, and flexural modulus of 24.0 GPa. The enhanced heat deflection temperature (HDT) and the increased cystallinity were also observed. The degree of impregnation as a function of pulling speed was also assessed. The degree of impregnation at the pulling speed of 5 m/min was over 90% in this research.
The present work was undertaken: (1) to determine if CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method would show better ionic conductor as an oxygen sensor in molten metals than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method and than CaO-fully stabilized $ZrO_2$, and (2) to understand the nature of conduction mechanism of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ by a comparison of measured electrical conductivity data with theory on defect structure of pure monoclinic $ZrO_2$ and fully stabilized cubic $ZrO_2$. The DC electrical conductivity was measured by 3-probe technique and the AC electrical conductivity by 2-probe technique as a function of temperature in the range 973-1373 K and oxygen partial pressure in the range 10-1-10-25Mpa. The results of the experiments were as follows: 1. CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot petroleum Drying Method showed at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-7-10-25 MPa a nearly ionic conduction with 4 times higher conductivity than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method. 2. High-oxygen pressure conductivity tends toward a Po_2^{+1/5}-Po_2^{+1/6}$dependence. An analysis of possible defect structures suggests that CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ has an anti-Frenkel defect in which singly or doubly ionized oxygen interstitials and defect electrons predominate at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-1-10-7MPa. 3. The activation energy for pure electron hole-conduction and ionic conduction of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ was found to be 130 KJ/mol at T=973-1373 K, $Po_2$=2, 127 10-2 MPa(air) and 153KJ/mol at T=1094-1285 K respectively.

The electrical and mechanical properties of the 8 mol% yittria-stabilized zirconia and alumina composites have been examined as a function of the alumina content. The 3-point bending strength and fracture toughness of the composites increased with increasing alumina content up to 20 wt%. The average grain size of the composites decreased with increasing alumina content up to 20 wt%. The composite with 5 wt% $Al_2O_3$ showed a 3-point bending strength of 310 MPa and fracture toughness about $7.8MPa\cdot\textrm m^{1/2}$. The electrical conductivity of the composites at $1000^{\circ}C$ increased slightly with increasing alumina content up to 10 wt% and decreased monotonically with alumina content. The conductivity of the TZ-8YS with 5 wt% alumina was 0.4 S/cm at $1000^{\circ}C$.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze stress distribution and maximum von Mises stress generated in intracoronal restorations and in tooth structures of mandibular molars with various types of cavity designs and materials. Materials and Methods: Three-dimensional solid models of mandible molar such as O inlay cavity with composite and gold (OR-C, OG-C), MO inlay cavity with composite and gold (MR-C, MG-C), and minimal invasive cavity on occlusal and proximal surfaces (OR-M, MR-M) were designed. To simulate masticatory force, static axial load with total force of 200 N was applied on the tooth at 10 occlusal contact points. A finite element analysis was performed to predict stress distribution generated by occlusal loading. Results: Restorations with minimal cavity design generated significantly lower values of von Mises stress (OR-M model: 26.8 MPa; MR-M model: 72.7 MPa) compared to those with conventional cavity design (341.9 MPa to 397.2 MPa). In tooth structure, magnitudes of maximum von Mises stresses were similar among models with conventional design (372.8 - 412.9 MPa) and models with minimal cavity design (361.1 - 384.4 MPa). Conclusion: Minimal invasive models generated smaller maximum von Mises stresses within restorations. Within the enamel, similar maximum von Mises stresses were observed for models with minimal cavity design and those with conventional design.
Kochujang, fermented hot pepper paste, was treated with combined high hydrostatic pressure and heat. Viable cell counts and chemical compositions of Kochujang were determined as a function of high pressure processing conditions such as temperature, pressure and time, and during storage for 120 days at $37^{\circ}C$. Viable cell counts were decreased with the increase of temperature, pressure and time. Viable cell counts in the treated Kochujang were decreased up to $0{\sim}3$ log cycle with the temperature of $49{\sim}73^{\circ}C$, $0{\sim}3$ log cycle with the pressure of $380{\sim}680\;MPa$, and $2{\sim}5$ log cycle with the time of $10{\sim}70\;min$, compared with the untreated. pH, titratable acidity, amino nitrogen, reducing sugar and ethanol content in the treated Kochujang were comparable to the untreated regardless of the treatment condition. Hunter L, a and b values in the treated Kochujang were higher than those of the untreated. Viable cell counts were decreased with the increase of the storage period at $37^{\circ}C$. Viable cell counts in Kochujang treated at 380 MPa/30 min were decreased up to 2 log cycle from $1.8{\times}10^6\;to\;1.94{\times}10^4\;CFU/g$ after 120 days of storage, while those at 680 MPa/70 min were not detected after 60 days from the initial stage of $4.00{\times}10^1\;CFU/g$. pH, amino nitrogen and ethanol content were decreased, and titratable acidity were increased significantly as the increase of the storage period. Hunter L, a and b values also decreased significantly. The changes in physicochemical properties of Kochujang treated at 680 MPa/70 min were greater than those at 380 MPa/30 min.

In the dairy industry, natural plant-based powders are widely used to develop flavor and functionality. However, most of these ingredients are water-insoluble; therefore, emulsification is essential. In this study, the efficacy of high pressure homogenization (HPH) on natural plant (chocolate or vanilla)-based model emulsions was investigated. The particle size, electrical conductivity, Brix, pH, and color were analyzed after HPH. HPH significantly decreased the particle size of chocolate-based emulsions as a function of elevated pressures (20-100 MPa). HPH decreased the mean particle size of chocolate-based emulsions from 29.01 μm to 5.12 μm, and that of vanilla-based emulsions from 4.18 μm to 2.44 μm. Electrical conductivity increased as a function of the elevated pressures after HPH, for both chocolate- and vanilla-based model emulsions. HPH at 100 MPa increased the electrical conductivity of chocolate-based model emulsions from 0.570 S/m to 0.680 S/m, and that of vanilla-based model emulsions from 0.573 S/m to 0.601 S/m. Increased electrical conductivity would be attributed to colloidal phase modification and dispersion of oil globules. Brix of both chocolate- and vanilla-based model emulsions gradually increased as a function of the HPH pressure. Thus, HPH increased the solubility of plant-based powders by decreasing the particle size. This study demonstrated the potential use of HPH for enhancing the emulsification process and stability of the natural plant powders for applications with dairy products.

This study investigated the mechanical properties of precious metal-ceramic alloy joined by the laser-welding and the soldering compared with the parent metal. Twenty-four tensile specimens were cast in precious metal-ceramic alloy and divided into three groups of eight. All specimens in the control group(group 1) were left in the as-cast condition. Group 2 and 3 were the test specimens, which were sectioned at the center. Eight of sectioned specimens were joined by soldering with a propane-oxygen torch, and the remaining specimens were joined by laser-welding. After joining, each joint diameter was measured, and then tested to tensile failure on an Instron machine. Failure loads were recorded, and then fracture stress(ultimate tensile strength), 0.2% yield strength and % elongation calculated. These data for three groups were subjected to a one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA). Neuman-Keuls post hoc test was then used to determine any significant differences between groups. The fracture locations, fracture surfaces were examined by SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results were as follows: 1) The tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength of the soldered group($280.28{\pm}49.35MPa$, $160.24{\pm}26.67MPa$) were significantly less than both the as-cast group($410.99{\pm}13.07MPa$, $217.82{\pm}17.99MPa$) and the laser-welded group($383.56{\pm}59.08MPa$, $217.18{\pm}12.96MPa$). 2) The tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength of the laser-welded group were about each 98%, 99.7% of the as-cast group. There were no statistically significant differences in these two groups(p<0.05). 3) The percentage elongations of the soldered group($3.94{\pm}2.32%$) and the laser-welded group($5.06{\pm}1.08%$) were significantly less than the as-cast group($14.25{\pm}4.05%$) (p<0.05). 4) The fracture of the soldered specimens occurred in the solder material and many porosities were showed at the fracture site. 5) The fracture of the laser-welded specimens occurred also in the welding area, and lack of fusion and a large void was observed at the center of the fracture surface. However, the laser-welded specimens showed a ductile failure mode like the as- cast specimens. The results of this study indicated that the tensile strengths of the laser-welded joints were comparable to those of the as-cast joints and superior to those of the soldered joints.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bond strength of the core-veneer interface in all ceramic systems. Material and Methods: The all ceramic systems tested with their respective veneer were IPS Empress 2 with IPS Eris, IPS e.max Press with IPS e.max Ceram and IPS-e.max ZirCAD with IPS e.max Ceram. Cores (N=36, N=12/group, diameter: 10mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated according to the manufacturer's instruction and cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. The veneer(diameter: 3mm, thickness: 2mm) were condensed in stainless steel mold and fired on to the core materials. After firing, they were again ultrasonically cleaned and embedded in acrylic resin. The specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 week. The specimens were placed in a mounting jig and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany). Load was applied at close to the core-veneer interface as possible with crosshead speed of 1.00mm/min until failure. Average shear bond strengths(MPa) were analyzed with a one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test(${\alpha}=.05$). The failed specimens were examinated by scanning electron microscopy(JSM-6360, JEOL, Japan). The pattern of failure was classified as cohesive in core, cohesive in veneer, mixed or adhesive. Results: The mean shear bond strength($MPa{\pm}SD$) were IPS e.max Press $32.85{\pm}6.75MPa$, IPS Empress 2 $29.30{\pm}6.51MPa$, IPS e.max ZirCAD $28.10{\pm}4.28MPa$. IPS Empress 2, IPS e.max Press, IPS e.max ZirCAD were not significantly different from each others. Scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that adhesive failure did not occur in any all ceramic systems. IPS Empress 2 and IPS e.max Press exhibited cohesive failure in both the core and the veneer. IPS e.max ZirCAD exhibited cohesive failure in veneer and mixed failure.

Statement of problem. The success of the bonding between electroforming gold and resin is dependent on the surface-conditioning technique but its effective technique has net been studied widely. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the bond strength between the electroforming gold and resin with varying the surface-conditioning technique. Materials and methods. Sixty rectangular shaped metal specimens were made and one side of each specimen were gold hard plated. The sand-blasted specimens were divided into four experimental groups with fifteen specimens in each group and were treated as follows. Group 1: Silicoating (Rocatec, 3M ESPE)+ Sinfony (3M ESPE), Group 2: SR Link+ SR Adoro (Ivoclar Vivadent), Group 3: Tin plating (Microtin, Danville Engineering)+ SR Link+ SR Adoro, Group 4: Tin plating (Micro tin, Danville Engineering)+ Silicoating (Rocatec)+ Sinfony. Shear bond strength at metal-resin interface were measured using universal testing machine. Energy Dispersive x-ray analysis was done and scanning electron microscope images were taken and observed. Results and Conclusion. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. The mean shear bond strength values in order were 11.69MPa (Group 2), 22.35MPa (Group 3), 22.40MPa (Group 1) and 27.71MPa (Group 4). There was no significant difference in Group 1, Group 3 and Group 4(P>0.05). 2. In the EDX line analysis, the Au was detected on the surface of all specimen. $SnO_2$ showed on the surface of Group 2 and $SiO_2$ was detected on the surface of Group 1. 3. Increasing of roughness by sandblasting(Group 2), formation of micro-irregularities and tin crystals by electrolytic tin plating(Group 3) and formation of surface irregularities and $SiO_2$ layer(Group 1,4) were observed in SEM photo. 4. Tin plating(Group 3) and Rocatec treatment(Group 1) showed clinically effective shear bond strength(>20MPa), but when the two surface conditioning method were used together higher bond strength were achieved.
