An experimental study was performed to investigate the earthquake resistance of the beam-column connections as a part of a precast concrete moment-resisting frame that uses precast concrete U-shaped shells for the beams. Five full-scale precast concrete specimens and one conventional monolithic concrete specimen were tested under cyclic loading. The parameters for this test were the reinforcement ratio, stirrup spacing, and end-strengthening details of the precast beam shell. The test results showed that regardless of the test parameters, the precast concrete beam-column connections showed good load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity, which were comparable to those of conventional monolithic concrete specimen. However, at large deformations, the beam-column connections of the precast concrete specimens were subjected to severe strength degradation due to diagonal shear cracks and the bond-slip of re-bars at the joint region. For this reason, the energy dissipation capacity and stiffness of the precast concrete specimens were significantly less than those of the cast-in-place specimen.

This study conducted infrared (IR) thermography tests using pipe and plate specimens with artificial wall-thinning defects to find an optimal condition for IR thermography test on the wall-thinned nuclear piping components. In the experiment halogen lamp was used to heat the specimens. The distance between the specimen and the lamp and the intensity of halogen lamp were regarded as experimental parameter. When the distance was set to 1~2 m and the lamp intensity was above 60 % of full power, a single scanning of IR thermography detected all artificial wall-thinning defects, whose minimum dimension was $2{\Theta}=90^{\circ}$, d/t=0.5, and $L/D_o=0.25$, within the pipe of 500 mm in length. Regardless of the distance between the specimen and the lamp, the image of wall-thinning defect in IR thermography became distinctive as the intensity of halogen lamp increased. The detectability of IR thermography was similar for both plate and pipe specimens, but the optimal test condition for IR thermography depended on the type of specimen.
To investigate the seismic performance of steel pipe-aeolian sand recycled concrete columns, this study designed and produced five specimens. Low-cycle repeated load tests were conducted while maintaining a constant axial compression ratio. The experiment aimed to examine the impact of different aeolian sand replacement rates on the seismic performance of these columns. The test results revealed that the mechanical failure modes of the steel pipe-recycled concrete column and the steel pipe-aeolian sand recycled concrete column were similar. Plastic hinges formed and developed at the column foot, and severe local buckling occurred at the bottom of the steel pipe. Interestingly, the bulging height of the damaged steel pipe was reduced for the specimen mixed with an appropriate amount of wind-deposited sand under the same lateral displacement. The hysteresis curves of all five specimens tested were relatively full, with no significant pinching phenomenon observed. Moreover, compared to steel tube-recycled concrete columns, the steel tube-aeolian sand recycled concrete columns exhibited improved seismic energy dissipation capacity and ductility. However, it was noted that as the aeolian sand replacement rate increased, the bearing capacity of the specimen increased first and then decreased. The seismic performance of the specimen was relatively optimal when the aeolian sand replacement rate was 30%. Upon analysis and comparison, the damage analysis model based on stiffness and energy consumption showed good agreement with the test results and proved suitable for evaluating the damage degree of steel pipe-wind-sand recycled concrete structures.

This paper summarizes the results of full-scale cyclic seismic testing on four RBS (reduced beam section) steel moment connections. Key test variables were web bolting vs. welding and strong vs. medium PZ (panel zone) strength. The specimen with medium PZ strength was specially designed to mobilize energy dissipation from both the PZ and RBS region in a balanced way; the aim was to reduce the requirement of expensive doubler plates. Both strong and medium PZ specimens with web-welding were able to provide sufficient connection rotation capacity required of special moment frames, whereas specimens with web-bolting showed inferior performance due to the premature brittle fracture of the beam flange across the weld access hole. In contrast to the case of web-welded specimens, the web-bolted specimens could not transfer the actual plastic moment of the original (or unreduced) beam section to the column. If a quality welding for the beam-to-column joint is made as in this study, the fracture-prone area tends to move into the beam flange base metal within the weld access hole. Analytical study was also conducted to understand the observed base metal fracture from the engineering mechanics point of view.
The Wheatstone bridge is an important electrical circuit that is widely used to measure extremely small resistance changes in strain gages. The strain gages are attached to the structure or specimen whose deformation is to be detected. The Wheatstone bridge finds one of its major applications in the areas of static and dynamic strength tests for various engineering materials. In the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system, for example, the bridge circuit is required to measure the dynamic strains of the incident and transmitted bars along which the stress wave propagates. In this article, the principles of the Wheatstone bridge circuit are in detail explained for easy reference during laboratory experiments associated with rock dynamics. Especially, the circuit arrangements of the quater, half, and full bridges are presented with their basic uses.
This experimental study was to determine the fitness on each cervical margin of recast using crown base metal alloy. The alloy used in this experimental study was a Ni-Cr alloy(Wirolloy, Bego, Germany) for the fabrication of full cast crown prosthesis. Twenty-five copings were divided into the five groups. And the group A, B, C, D and E were cording successively according to the frequency of recast to five times. Each specimen was recasted without adding new metal. The experimental results were as follows: 1. The group A and B showed good fitness had subtle differences in each cervical margin adaptation, in other words, the mesio and disto cervical margin showed worse adaptation than the bucco and linguo cervical margin. 2. The group C got good fitness in bucco and linguo cervical margins, but the mesio and disto cervical margin showed inaccurate fitness. And I could not get good casting bodies without adding new metal. 3. The group D and E showed bad fitness for each cervical margin. Therefore the group D and E lost its function as a dental restoration.

To establish of standard technique of nano-length measurement in 2D plane, new AFM system has been designed. In this system, measurement uncertainty is dominantly affected by the Abbe error of XY scanning stage. No linear stage is perfectly straight; in other words, every scanning stage is subject to tilting, pitch and yaw motion. In this paper, an AFM system with minimum offset of XY sensing is designed. And XY scanning stage is designed to minimize rotation angle because Abbe errors occur through the multiply of offset and rotation angle. To minimize the rotation angle optimal design has performed by maximizing the stiffness ratio of motion direction to the parasitic motion direction of each stage. This paper describes the design scheme of full AFM system, especially about XY stage. Full range of fabricated XY scanner is $100um\times{100um}$. And tilting, pitch and yaw motion are measured by autocollimator to evaluate the performance of XY stage. Using this AFM system, 3um pitch specimen was measured. As a result, the uncertainty of total system has been evaluated.

To examine the appicability of the converter slag to aggregate, tests were performed for the converter slag specimens which were aged with steam, and the stability of expansion was investigated. The strength of the converter slag was found to he lower than that of the natural aggregate. But the strength of the concrete mixed with the converter slag and the granular slag was increased with an increase of the content of the granular slag. The slump value was larger for the specimen of the converter slag than that for the natural aggregate. The specific weight of the converter slag was decreased with an increase of the aging peroid. The aging time for the converter slag was accessed to be about 48 hours to accommodate the full stability of the expansion. The amount of the steam needed to age one ton of converter slag to full expansion was accessed to be 60 kg. From the regression analysis for splitting tensile strength (t), and flexural strength (f), the compressive strength (c) based on the following formulas were proposed $\sigma$t=0.1506 $\sigma$c+4.5(kg/cm$^2$) (r=0.876) $\sigma$f=O.l537.~+30.5(kg/cm$^2$) (r=0.796)

Impact-echo test, a kind of simple and economical method to evaluate the integrity of drilled piles has some limitations to use because the stress wave can be generated only on the head of a pile and the wave propagation in the pile with surrounding soils are very complicated. Numerical analyses and model tests in the laboratory have shown that both the ratio of length to diameter of a pile and the stiffness ratio of pile to soil have influence on the resolution of testing results. Full scale testing piles which have artificial defects were used to verify the capability of impact-echo technique as a tool for the pile integrity evaluation. Behaviour of the reflected signal of stress wave was investigated according to the type of defects. Elastic modulus of the pile was calculated using the wave velocity in the pile and the unconfined strength of concrete specimen. Influences of the stiffness difference between the pile and the ground on the characteristics of a wave signal were also examined.

Al-Si coated Boron steel and Zn coated DP steel were welded using DISK laser and the microstructure and hardness of the weld were investigated. Full penetration was obtained, when the welding speed was lower than 4m/min. In the specimen welded with laser power of 3 kW and welding speed of 2 m/min, the hardness was the highest in the heat affect zone in the boron steel (HAZ-B) and that of the heat affect zone in the DP steel (HAZ-D) was lower than HAZ-B. The hardness of fusion zone was in between those of HAZ-B and HAZ-D. The decreased hardness from each HAZ to base metal(BM) could be explained that ferrite contents increases when access to the BM. The variation of hardness in the welds could be explained by the difference of microstructure, that is, full martensite in HAZ-B, mixture of martensite and bainite in the fusion zone, and the mixture of martensite, ferrite and bainite in HAZ-D.
