  • 현재 수소전기차는 승용 및 상용 등 다양한 모빌리티 분야에서 전 세계적으로 이슈가 되고 있다. 환경규제 강화, 신기후체제 출범 등의 변화의 물결에 따라 자동차산업의 패러다임이 친환경으로 전환되고 있으며, 세계적으로 관련 기술 개발 및 보급을 위한 확대 정책이 발표되고 있다. 1990년 초 수소전기차(Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, FCEV) 기술 개발이 진행되어 1994년 독일 다임러사가 세계 최초로 NECAR1을 개발하였다. 이후 많은 완성차가 상용화를 위해 기술개발이 진행되었으며, 2013년 국내 현대차가 세계최초로 양산차인 투싼 ix 수소전기차를 출시하였다. 1년 이후 다시 일본 도요타에서 세계 최초로 전용 차체를 적용한 미라이 수소전기차가 출시되면서 초기시장이 형성되었으며, 이후 현대차는 NEXO를 2018년에 발표하였다. 전 세계적으로 가장 많이 팔린 수소전기차에 해당된다. 2021년 미라이 2세대가 더욱 진보된 기술을 바탕으로 출시되었으며, 국내 현대차에서도 2세대 수소전기차 출시를 앞두고 있다. 또한 수소승용차 뿐만 아니라 수소상용차 시장이 뜨겁게 부각되고 있으며, 각국에서 수소상용차 기술개발을 진행하고 있다. 본 기획특집에서는 각국의 수소전기차 기술개발 및 보급 정책을 소개하고 국내 기술개발 및 보급 정책의 타당성을 확인하고자 하였다.

  • The main objective of this paper is to investigate the performance characteristics of a $CO_2$ air conditioning system for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). The present air conditioning system for FCEV uses the electrically driven compressor and electrically controlled expansion valve for $CO_2$ as a working fluid. The experimental work has been done with various operating conditions, which are quite matching the actual vehicle's driving conditions such as different compressor speed and high pressure to identify the characteristics of the system. Experimental results show that the cooling capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) were up to 6.3kW and 2.5, respectively. This paper also deals with the development of optimum high pressure control algorithm for the transcritical $CO_2$ cycle to achieve the maximum COP.

  • Metal sealing is used to connecting the parts between valves and fuel pipes for a FCEV which utilizes hydrogen gas of 700 bar. Instead of general carbon steel, stainless steel is the primary material used to manufacture fuel pipes due to hydrogen embrittlement. The shape of deformation between metals is an important factor on the air-tightness of the metal to metal contact. Since the stainless steel pipe is hardened using the plastic forming during the tip shaping stage, this work hardening could have an effect on the deformed shape and characteristics of contact surfaces in fastening of pipes. In this paper, the deformation history of the pipe model was considered in order to analyze the hydrogen-tightness on the metal sealing part. The contact distance and the forward displacement for fastening were compared using experimental results and the simulation results. The simulation of the effect of material change on the fitting body demonstrated that the hardness or the strength of the formed tip of the pipe was designed to a proper valued level since the characteristics of the contact surface was exhibited better when the strength of the pipe was lower than that of the fitting body.

A Study on Mount Vibration Reduction of a Centrifugal Turbo Blower for FCEV (FCEV용 원심형 터보 블로워의 마운트 진동 저감에 관한 연구)

  • A centrifugal turbo blower of the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) operates at very high speed above 30000 rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. In this paper, dynamic analysis of the blower executed by numerical simulation and experimental analysis of the blower is also performed. Then, measured and simulated results are compared in order to validate of the simulation. Finally, reducing vibration through modifying mount stiffness is the main purpose of this paper.

  • FCEV(Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle)는 연료전지스택의 각 셀에서 반응하는 화학에너지를 전기에너지로 변환하여 차량을 구동하는 시스템이다. 이러한 연료전지 셀이 정상적인 발전이 되지 않을 경우 비정상적인 전압이 발전되고 이것을 방치한다면 연료전지 스택의 영구적인 고장을 야기할 수 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해 SVM(Stack Voltage monitor) 제어기는 각 셀의 전압을 측정하고 그 정보를 상위 제어기인 FCU(Fuel cell Control Unit)에 전달한다. 이에 FCU는 연료전지스택의 고장을 운전자에게 알리고 연료전지스택의 발전을 멈추게 한다. 기존에 SVM 제어기는 각 셀마다 분압저항을 통하여 측정하며 이 전압의 차를 이용하여 셀 전압을 계산하는 방식이었다. 이는 상위 셀로 갈수록 오차가 커지는 문제가 있고 다수의 CPU 및 DC/DC 컨버터가 적용이 필요하여 복잡한 구성과 가격이 높은 문제가 있었다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 cell monitoring IC를 적용하였고 좀 더 정밀한 측정과 간단한 인터페이스를 구성할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 기존 SVM 제어기보다 안정되고 정밀한 SVM 제어기의 개발에 대해 기술하였다.

Development of DC/DC Converters and Actual Vehicle Simulation Experiment for 150 kW Class Fuel-cell Electric Vehicle (150kW급 수소연료전지 차량용 DC/DC 컨버터 개발 및 실차모사 실험)

  • This paper proposes a power system that includes a 120k W fuel cell DC-DC converter (FDC) and 30 kW bidirectional DC-DC converter (BHDC) for a 150 kW fuel-cell vehicle. With a high DC link voltage of 800 V, the efficiency and power density of the power electronic components are improved. Through the modular design of FDC and BHDC, electric components are shared, resulting in reduced mass production costs. The switching frequency of 30 kHz of full SiC devices and optimal design of coupled inductor reduce the volume, achieving a power density of 8.3 kW/L. Furthermore, a synergetic operation strategy using variable limiter control of FDC and BHDC was proposed to efficiently operate the fuel cell vehicle considering the fuel cell stack efficiency according to the load. Finally, the performance of the prototype was verified by Highway Fuel Economy Driving Schedule testing, EMI test, and the linked operation between FDC and BHDC. The full load efficiencies of the FDC and BHDC prototypes are 98.47% and 98.74%, respectively.

  • We have developed a cylindrical multi-terminal capacitive-conductive sensor that could be attached to the internal surface of cooling system pipe to evaluate capacitance and conductivity of heat transfer fluid. It was used as measuring system to diagnose insulating condition, by which was kept a insulating resistance of inner stack and at the same time was cooled electrochemical heat of reaction of FCEV(fuel cell electric vehicle) stack that used a compressed hydrogen gas reacting with oxygen in accordance with variation on thermal degradation of nonconductive heat transfer fluid. Also to assess diagnosis characteristics of heat transfer fluid, i.e. coolant, we have performed accelerated aging test using developed sensor attached to cooling system. Consequently, it was measured dielectric and electric resistance of coolant to estimate and analyse for dielectric properties by degradation condition.

  • This study proposes a bi-directional interleaved current-fed resonant converter (CRC) with reduced size of the output filter for a fuel cell electric vehicle. The proposed CRC achieves zero-current switching turn on and off of switches and diodes and makes ripple current of the output capacitor theoretically zero. As a result, the cost and volume of the output capacitor are significantly reduced. The two-stage power conversion technique is also applied for wide input and output voltage range operations. A 2kW prototype of the proposed converter is built and tested to verify the validity of the proposed operation.

  • This study is a research to compare efficiency of new cooling system (chiller, pre-cooler) to that of the conventional system at the hydrogen refueling station (HRS). This study includes contents for thermodynamic comparison of cooling system for HRS and comparison of pros and cons of its components. So It is to establish design concept of cooling system of HRS supplying with fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). HRS is charging high pressure H2 (700 bar) to FCEV. However cooling system is need to prevent temperature rise in tank. This cooling system consists of pre-cooler and chiller system.

  • Centrifugal turbo blower is requested highly efficiency and low noise in FCEV, but the noise generated by this machine causes of the most serious problems in the NVH performance. In general, centrifugal turbo blower is dominated by mechanical noise and aerodynamic noise. Mechanical noise is generated by rotation of the bearing, misalignment and unbalance. And aerodynamic noise is generated by the strong intersection between the flow discharged from the impeller and the cut-off in the casing. The first object of this study is to comprehend a noise property of the blower through the noise test. And, second object is to bring up the method that can reduce blower noise.
