Front end AC to DC converters of the boost type are used in traction applications for generating the DC link for the inverters. A GTO based converter is usually switched with a switching frequency of 300 to 500Hz, resulting in low frequency harmonic problems. In order to avoid this, multiple converters with phase shifted carrier signals are used to suppress the low frequency harmonics. A detailed study of an AC to DC converter, parallel operated with reduced sensor and improved power-factor in light load conditions is presented in this paper.
In this paper is presented a pre-charging sequence for single-phase cascaded neutal-point-clamped(NPC) converters for capacitors voltage balancing. capacitor imbalance problem in pre-charge sequence is caused in cascaded NPC converter by its topology. the DC link voltage at each NPC converter module can be balanced by the proposed switching method. the design and performance of the proposed sequence are verified by simulation and experimental results using prototype.

In this paper, an 1.5Gbit/s wireless data transmission system using the carrier frequency of 300 GHz band was implemented. The RF front-end was composed of schottky diode sub-harmonic mixer, frequency tripler, and horn antennas for transmitter and receiver, respectively. The LO frequencies of sub-harmonic mixer are 150GHz for transmit chain and 156GHz for receive chain. The ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) modulation was used in the transmitter and the envelope detection method was used in the heterodyne receiver. The conversion loss of sub-harmonic mixer and implementation system loss were measured to be 9.8dB and 1.2dB, respectively. The 1.5Gbit/s video signal with HD-SDI format was transmitted over wireless distance of 40cm without optical lens(4.2m with optical lens) and displayed on HDTV at the transmitted average output power of $20{\mu}W$.

This paper describes a read-only CMOS transponder IC for RFID applications. A full-wave rectifier implemented using NMOS transistors supplies the transponder with a dc supply voltage using the magnetic field generated from a reader. A 64-bit ROM has been designed for a data memory. Front-end impedance modulation and Manchester coding are used for transmitting the data from the transponder memory to the reader. A new damping circuit which has almost constant damping rate under the variations of the distance between the transponder and the reader has been employed for impedance modulation. The designed circuit has been fabricated using a 0.65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$2-poly, 2-metal CMOS process. Die area is 0.9mm$\times$0.4mm. Measurement results show that it has a constant damping rate of around 20~25% and a data transmission rate of 3.9kbps at a 125KHz RF carrier. The power required for reading operation is about 100㎼. The measured reading distance is around 7cm.

Ionospheric scintillation induces a rapid change in the amplitude and phase of radio wave signals. This is due to irregularities of electron density in the F-region of the ionosphere. It reduces the accuracy of both pseudorange and carrier phase measurements in GPS/satellite based Augmentation system (SBAS) receivers, and can cause loss of lock on the satellite signal. Scintillation is not as strong at mid-latitude regions such that positioning is not affected as much. Severe effects of scintillation occur mainly in a band approximately 20 degrees on either side of the magnetic equator and sometimes in the polar and auroral regions. Most scintillation occurs for a few hours after sunset during the peak years of the solar cycle. This paper focuses on estimation of the effects of ionospheric scintillation on GPS and SBAS signals using a software receiver. Software receivers have the advantage of flexibility over conventional receivers in examining performance. PC based receivers are especially effective in studying errors such as multipath and ionospheric scintillation. This is because it is possible to analyze IF signal data stored in host PC by the various processing algorithms. A L1 C/A software GPS receiver was developed consisting of a RF front-end module and a signal processing program on the PC. The RF front-end module consists of a down converter and a general purpose device for acquiring data. The signal processing program written in MATLAB implements signal acquisition, tracking, and pseudorange measurements. The receiver achieves standalone positioning with accuracy between 5 and 10 meters in 2drms. Typical phase locked loop (PLL) designs of GPS/SBAS receivers enable them to handle moderate amounts of scintillation. So the effects of ionospheric scintillation was estimated on the performance of GPS L1 C/A and SBAS receivers in terms of degradation of PLL accuracy considering the effect of various noise sources such as thermal noise jitter, ionospheric phase jitter and dynamic stress error.

In this paper, the cryogenically cooled low noise amplifier module for radio telescope receiver front-end using pHE-MT MMIC is designed and fabricated. In the selection of MMIC, the MMIC fabricated with the pHEMTS providing successful cryogenic operation are chosen. They are mounted in the housing using the thin film substrate. In the design of the housing, the absorber and the elimination of the gap between the carrier and the housing as well removed the unnecessary oscillations by its structure. The mismatch is improved by ribbon-tuning to provide the best performance at room temperature. The fabricated module shows the gain of $35dB{\pm}1dB$ and the noise figure of $2.37{\sim}2.57dB$ at room temperature over $21.5{\sim}23.5GHz$. In the cryogenic temperature of $15^{\circ}K$ cooled by He gas, the measured gain was above 35 dB and flatness ${\pm}2dB$ and the noise temperatures of $28{\sim}37^{\circ}K$.

In the OFDM system, IQ imbalance problem happens at the RF front-end of transceiver, which degrades the BER(bit error rate) performance because it affects the constellation in the received signal. Also, phase noise is generated in the local oscillator of transceivers and it destroys the orthogonality between the subcarriers. Conventional PNS algorithm is effective for phase noise suppression, but it is not useful anymore when there are jointly IQ(In-phase and Quadrature) imbalance and phase noise. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the effect of IQ imbalance and phase noise generated in the down-conversion of the receiver. Then, we estimate and compensate the IQ imbalance and phase noise at the same time. Compared with the conventional method that IQ imbalance after IFFT is estimated and compensated in front of FFT via the feedback, this proposed method extracts and compensates effect of IQ imbalance after FFT stage. In case IQ imbalance and phase noise exist at the same time, we can decrease complexity because it is needless to use elimination of IQ imbalance in time domain and training sequences and preambles. Also, this method shows that it reduces the ICI and CPE component using adaptive forgetting factor of MMSE after FFT.

This paper proposes FMT(Filtered Multi-Tone)-based digital radio implementation algorithms and the results obtained by various field tests especially in terms of transmitter characteristics. In this study, we predefined frame structure and protocols used for the CSTDMA(Carrier Sensing Time Division Multiple Access) scheme, designed digital filters and RF front end to fulfill the system characteristics such as the spectral mask and processing delays given by the Recommendation ITU-R M.1842-1. The proposed system supports exchange of data for e-Navigation with the usage of wider channel of 50-100kHz bandwidth, Turbo coding and FMT modulation. Furthermore, the common Ethernet protocol makes connection to local WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) on board the ship for other data services.
This article provides detailed instructions for the correct installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of capillary gas chromatography (GC) columns. It emphasizes the importance of proper installation to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the column. The document covers various aspects such as column trimming, installation, conditioning, testing, storage, and ferrule selection. The installation process involves ensuring that the heated zones of the GC are cool before placing the column cage in the column oven. It is essential to avoid sharp bends or stress on the capillary column during installation and to connect the front end of the column into the GC inlet at the recommended insertion distance. The document also provides guidance on trimming the column, including the use of a ceramic wafer or capillary column cutter to achieve a clean, burr-free cut. For previously used columns, it recommends removing any capillary caps, positioning the nut and ferrule, and trimming 1-2 cm from the column. After installation, the column should be purged with carrier gas to remove any oxygen and avoid oxidizing the column. Conditioning the column involves ramping to the upper isothermal temperature limit and maintaining this temperature for a specified duration. It is crucial to maintain carrier gas flow during conditioning and not exceed the upper temperature limit of the column to avoid phase damage. The document also discusses testing column performance using a suitable method and performing a test injection to assess performance. It provides recommendations for column storage, including flame-sealing the capillary ends or using retention gaps for long-term storage. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of routine maintenance and replacement of GC consumables to extend the column's lifetime. Ferrule selection is another important aspect covered in the article, with a variety of ferrule materials available for different applications. The characteristics of common ferrule options are presented in a table, including temperature limits, reusability, and suitability for specific detector types.

A triple-band transceiver module for 2.3/2.5/3.5 GHz mobile WiMAX, IEEE 802.16e, applications is introduced. The suggested transceiver module consists of RFIC, reconfigurable/multi-resonance MIMO antenna, embedded PCB, mobile WiMAX base band, memory and channel selection front-end module. The RFIC is fabricated in $0.13{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process and has 3.5 dB noise figure(NF) of receiver and 1 dBm maximum power of transmitter with 68-pin QFN package, $8{\times}8\;mm^2$ area. The area reduction of transceiver module is achieved by using embedded PCB which decreases area by 9% of the area of transceiver module with normal PCB. The developed triple-band mobile WiMAX transceiver module is tested by performing radio conformance test(RCT) and measuring carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR) and received signal strength indication (RSSI) in each 2.3/2.5/3.5 GHz frequency.
