Impact Collapse Behavior of Hybrid Circular Thin-walled Member by Stacking Condition (적층조건에 따른 혼성 원형 박육부재의 충격압궤거동)

  • The recent trend of vehicle design aims at crash safety and environmentally-friendly aspect. For the crash safety aspect, energy absorbing members should be absorbed with collision energy sufficiently. But vehicle structure must be light weight for the environmentally-friendly aspect, in order to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce tail gas emission. Therefore, the light weight of vehicle must be achieved in a status of securing safety of crash. An aluminum or CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) is representative one among the light-weight materials. In this study, impact collapse behavior of circular hybrid thin-walled member is evaluated. The hybrid members are manufactured by wrapping CFRP prepreg sheets outside the aluminum circular members in the autoclave. Because the CFRP is an anisotropic material whose mechanical properties change with its stacking condition, special attention is given to the effects of the stacking condition on the collapse behavior evaluation of the hybrid thin-walled member. Collapse mode and energy absorption capability of the hybrid thin-walled member are analyzed with change of the fiber orientation angle and interface number.

  • Even though 30inch optical telescope at Kyung Hee Astronomy Observatory has been used to produce a series of scientific achievements since its first light in 1992, numerous difficulties in operating of the telescope have hindered the precise observations needed for further researches. Since the currently used PC-TCS(Personal Computer based Telescope Control System) software based on ISA-bus type is outdated, it doesn't have a user friendly interface and make it impossible to scale. Also accumulated errors which are generated by discordance from input and output signals into a motion controller required new control system. Thus we have improved the telescope control system by updating software and modifying mechanical parts. We applied a new BLDC(brushless DC) servo motor system to the mechanical parts of the telescope and developed a control software using Visual Basic6.0. As a result, we could achieve a high accuracy in controlling of the telescope and use the user friendly GUI(Graphic User Interface).

  • Recently, as industries and technologies are increased, superior adhesives having more and more developed functions and properties have been demanded. In this article, to use the merits and viscoelastic properties of poly(ethylene/butylene) rubber resin and to supplement the demerits, semi-structure pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are developed. Aslo, it can be said environmentally friendly PSAs because of not use the organic solvent and not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • Among the mainstream of this society has quickly adopted computer technology as part of their daily life, the ever growing group of elderly people, which will increase from 7% of the population in 2000 to being 14% just 18 years later, has been being exposed to computer using environment more than ever before. According to the survey of Korean government in 2005, the number of the elderly using computer has been rising actually, so web-based survey to identify housing needs of the elderly seems to have lots of possibilities as a useful tool for them. This study aims at comparing web-based survey tool with paper-based one, developed to identify the elderly needs on digital home planning. Experimental method and in-depth interview were employed. The participants were divided into 2 groups, web-based and paper-based survey group. Each group was controlled over by age (average 60 years old), gender and computer skill. As a results, web-based survy tool was revealed as effective to clearer understanding and causing more interests and more available, but less easy to handle than paper-based survey one. Through the in-depth interview, web-based survey tool was identified as a more effective method to figure out the needs of the elderly who are familiar with computer.

VLBI NETWORK SIMULATOR: AN INTEGRATED SIMULATION TOOL FOR RADIO ASTRONOMERS

  • In this paper we introduce a software package, the Very long baseline interferometry Network SIMulator (VNSIM), which provides an integrated platform assisting radio astronomers to design Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) experiments and evaluate the network performance, with a user-friendly interface. Though VNSIM is primarily motivated by the East Asia VLBI Network, it can also be used for other VLBI networks and generic interferometers. The software package not only integrates the functionality of plotting (u, v) coverage, scheduling the observation, and displaying the dirty and CLEAN images, but also adds new features including sensitivity calculations for a given VLBI network. VNSIM provides flexible interactions on both command line and graphical user interface and offers friendly support for log reports and database management. Multi-processing acceleration is also supported, enabling users to handle large survey data. To facilitate future developments and updates, all simulation functions are encapsulated in separate Python modules, allowing independent invoking and testing. In order to verify the performance of VNSIM, we performed simulations and compared the results with other simulation tools, showing good agreement.

  • In this study, we report on the synthesis and properties of eco-friendly waterborne polyurethane (WPU) according to bio-polyol contents. It was successfully synthesized by the different polyester polyol (DT-1040) and castor oil based polyol (COP) ratios. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the synthesized bio polyol based waterborne polyurethane was around -70 ℃ and -30 ℃, and it was confirmed that the Tg range was widened as the COP content increased. In addition, as the COP content increased, the tensile strength decreased, and optimum adhesive strength showed when DT-1040:COP ratio was 7:3.

  • In the near future, robots will be used for the personal use. To provide useful services to humans, it will be necessary for robots to understand human intentions. Consequently, the development of emotional interfaces for robots is an important expansion of human-robot interactions. We designed and developed an intelligent emotional interface for the robot, and applied the interfaces to our humanoid robot, AMIET.   • This study deals with the analysis of the effectiveness of a safer belt in frontal crash. ATB, Articulated Total Body, program is used as a dynamics solver of the occupant model. ATB is a public code, however, the program is somewhat cumbersome to use due to lack of sufficient user interface. A preprocessor and a postprocessor are, therefore, developed for a user friendly graphic interface in Windows environment. Dialog boxes are used for an interface with GEBOD, Generator of Body Data, for human anthropometry and with ADAMS for vehicle dynamics. It is found through three test simulations that simulated results are in good agreement with those obtained by ATB. The effect of the initial slack of safety belt is investigated for frontal crash using the developed program.

  • This study focuses on the user centered interface design of an information retrieval system. Users do not tend to take advantage of powerful retrieval functions of an information retrieval system unless its interface is user friendly and easy to use. The actual interface design case of the ELSA information retrieval system is reviewed in terms of design concepts and its applicable concrete designs for constructing an user centered interface.
