The matching condition at a perforated wall with vertical slits involves the permeability parameter, which can be calculated by two different methods. One expresses the permeability parameter in terms of energy dissipation coefficient and jet length at the perforated wall, being advantageous in that all the related variables are known, but it gives wrong result in the limit of long waves. The other expresses the permeability parameter in terms of friction coefficient and inertia coefficient, giving correct result from short to long waves, but the friction coefficient should be determined on the basis of a best fit between measured and predicted values of such hydrodynamic coefficients as reflection and transmission coefficients. In the present study, an empirical formula for the friction coefficient is proposed in terms of known variables, i.e., the porosity and thickness of the perforated wall and the water depth. This enables direct estimation of the friction coefficient without invoking a best fit procedure. To obtain the empirical formula, hydraulic experiments are carried out, the results of which are used along with other researchers' results. The proposed formula is used to predict the reflection and transmission coefficients of a curtain-wall-pile breakwater, the upper part of which is a curtain wall and the lower part consisting of a perforated wall with vertical slits. The concurrence between the experimental data and calculated results is good, verifying the appropriateness of the proposed formula.
To estimate pure shear strength, 150 sets of triaxial test data were analyzed. The proportional coefficient of shear strength($I_c$) at zero normal stress was nonlinearly decreased as failure coefficient m increases, while the internal friction $\phi_0$ at zero normal stress was nonlinearly increased. The ratio of shear strength $(c/\phi_0)$was inversely proportional to the ratio of the internal friction angles$(\phi/phi_0)$ The shear strength decreased as m increased, while internal friction angle increased. And uniaxial strength was proportional to $c,\phi$ Regression analysis showed that shear strength strongly affects m and $\sigma_c$ The proportional coefficient of shear strength was nonlinearly increased with RMR, while the internal friction angle $(\phi}$was linearly decreased.

In this paper, a new technique was suggested to estimate vehicle speed for the traffic accident reconstruction, and accident investigators can estimate initial vehicle speed based on this suggested technique. Turning tests with several vehicle speeds were executed and compared with the motion of the vehicle and the shape of the tire marks. A new method for estimating the coefficient of friction is suggested by using the longitudinal and lateral components of tire marks. And also, a speed calculation graph is suggested to estimate vehicle speed for traffic accident reconstruction.

In this paper, the factors affecting the dynamic characteristics of a polyurethane spring restoring disk bearing are analysed to predict the dynamic behavior of the bearing. The prediction results and the test results are compared. The Young's modulus of the polyurethane spring, which varies according to strain of spring and the friction coefficient, of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), which varies according to the velocity and pressure of PTFE, are considered as the factors influencing the dynamic characteristics. W-PTFE virgin products are used and polyurethane springs are produced for the tests. The equation related to changing the friction coefficient and the modulus of elasticity are obtained through an inverse estimation of the test results. The estimation results, considering the factors affecting the dynamic characteristics, simulate the test results more appropriately than the estimation without the consideration of those factors.

For the purpose of improving accuracy in friction and wear test, a hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester was developed and its performance was evaluated experimentally. The performance estimation of the tribotesrer was accomplished by comparing both the consistency of the applied normal load and the robustness of the control against the mechanical disturbances with those of the pneumatic and the dead weight loading method respectively. The developed hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester showed the better reliability in the performance and the hydraulic loading method provided the more accurate friction coefficient.
This Research have suggested the new estimation method using parameter estimation algorithm to substitute established velocity and friction factor calculation equation. Established calculation equation has some difficulties for estimation and reflecting exactly flow specification cause parameter uncertainty and material uncertainty governed real phenomenon, so this research has used system modeling method for flow specification estimation and suggested estimation method.

Grid(pipe network) design is an important element of Smart Water Grid, which essential to estimate hydraulic parameters such as the pressure, friction factor, friction velocity, head loss and energy slope. Especially, friction velocity in a grid is an important factor in conjunction with energy gradient, friction coefficient, pressure and head loss. However, accurate estimation friction head loss, friction velocity and friction factor are very difficult. The empirical friction factor is still estimated by using theory and equation which were developed one hundred years ago. Therefore, in this paper, new equation from maximum velocity and friction velocity is developed by using integration relationship between Darcy-Weisbach's friction head loss equation and Schlichting equation and regression analysis. To prove the developed equation, smooth pipe data areis used. Proposed equation shows high accuracy compared to observed data. Study results are expected to be used in stability improvements and design in a grid.

This paper proposes a method to predict maximum traction for unmanned robots on rough terrain in order to improve traversability. For a traction prediction, we use a friction-slip model based on modified Brixius model derived empirically in terramechanics which is a function of mobility number $B_n$ and slip ratio S. A friction-slip model includes characteristics of various rough terrains where robots are operated such as soil, sandy soil and grass-covered soil. Using a friction-slip model, we build a prediction model for terrain parameters on which we can know maximum static friction and optimal slip with respect to mobility number $B_n$. In this paper, Mobility number $B_n$ is estimated by modified Willoughby Sinkage model which is a function of sinkage z and slip ratio S. Therefore, if sinkage z and slip ratio are measured once by sensors such as a laser sensor and a velocity sensor, then mobility number $B_n$ is estimated and maximum traction is predicted through a prediction model for terrain parameters. Estimation results for maximum traction are shown on simulation using MATLAB. Prediction Performance for maximum traction of various terrains is evaluated as high accuracy by analyzing estimation errors.
This paper is an experimental work of estimating friction angle of very coarse grained soil such as rubble mound by performing laboratory experiments. Two crushed rocks of rubble mound were used for tests. Triaxial compression tests with drained conditions were performed to measure friction angles of soils prepared by mixing the crushed soil having an identical coefficient of uniformity with different maximum grain size distribution. Centrifuge model experiments with those soils were also performed to measure angle of repose and to estimate friction angle of soil from measuring the slope of slip line in the active stress state. Model tests were carried out by changing the G-levels of 1G and 50G. From triaxial compression tests, the measured value of friction angle of soil is in the range of $41{\sim}57^{\circ}$. The measured value of repose angle is in the range of $32{\sim}35^{\circ}$. The values of friction angle are found not so sensitive to the maximum grain size of soil as long as the coefficient of uniformity is identical. Estimated value of friction angle from measuring the slope of slip line in the active stress state is in the range of $30{\sim}46^{\circ}$. Thus, the estimated angle of friction are found to be greater in the order of the measured angle of repose, the estimated value from the slope of active state, and triaxial compression test results. On the other hand, the measured values of friction angle from triaxial tests were compared with empirical equations, based on the relation between friction angle and void ratio. Equations proposed by Helenelund(l966) and Hansen(1967) found to be relatively reliable to estimate friction angles of soil.

Railway vehicles driven by wheels obtain force required for propulsion and braking by adhesive force between wheels and rails, this adhesive force is determined by multiplying adhesion coefficient of the friction surface by the applied axle load. Because the adhesion coefficient has a peak at certain slip velocity, it is important to determine the maximum values of the friction coefficient on the contact area. But this adhesive phenomenon is not clearly examined or analyzed. Thus we have developed new test procedure using the scaled adhesion test-bench for analyzing of the adhesion coefficient between wheel and rail. This adhesion test equipment is an experimental device that contacts mutually with twin disc which are equivalent to wheels and rails of railway vehicles.
