  • In this paper we define a Banach algebra on very general function space induced by a generalized Brownian motion process rather than on Wiener space, but the Banach algebra can be considered as a generalization of Fresnel class defined on Wiener space. We then show that several interesting functions in quantum mechanic are elements of the class.

  • Recently seismic tomography has been widely used to visualize subsurface structure for resource explorations and construction site evaluation. We studied a way to include fresnel zone concept in the conventional ray-based traveltime tomography. The algorithm developed uses the same order of computing time as the conventional traveltime to mography but incorporates the rigorous wavepath concept of wave-equation tomography. Some experiments to synthetic and real data show reasonable results compared to conventional ray-based traveltime tomography.

  • In this paper the intensity variation of electromagnedtic wave is computed with Huygens Fresnel’s theory using diffraction plaenomethon. An obstacle or an aperture with pertangular type between a transmitter and a receiver is consider and the frequency is selcetde in a car phone system band(870~1500MHz) For numerical analysis Fresnel integral equation is developed which is based on the Kirchhoff’s diffraction theory. The result with the obstacle’s dimension from finite value to extremely large confirms the validity of computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel differential equation method for designing a total internal reflection (TIR) LED lens with double freeform surfaces. A complete set of simultaneous differential equations for the method is derived from the condition for minimizing the Fresnel loss, illumination models, Snell’s Law of ray propagation, and a new constraint on the incident angle of a ray on the light-exiting surface of the lens. The last constraint is essential to complete the set of simultaneous differential equations. By adopting the TIR structure and applying the condition for minimizing the Fresnel loss, it is expected that the proposed TIR LED lens can have a high luminous flux efficiency, even though its beam-spread angle is narrow. To validate the proposed method, three TIR LED lenses with beam-spread angles of less than 22.6° have been designed, and their performances evaluated by ray tracing. Their luminous flux efficiencies could be obviously increased by at least 35% and 5%, compared to conventional LED lenses with a single freeform surface and with double freeform surfaces, respectively.

  • We performed the spectrum analysis of arrayed waveguide grating using Fresnel Kirchhoff diffraction formula and its approximated Fraunhofer diffraction equation and applied both methods to 16 channel and 40 channel models. We presented the spectra and found out the limitations of Fraunhofer diffraction in analysis of arrayed waveguide grating and compared the errors coming from Fraunhofer diffraction approximation and due to imperfection during the fabrication process.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm that increases the speed of generating a Fresnel hologram using a recursive addition operation covering the whole coordinate array of a digital hologram. The 3D object designed to calculate the digital hologram used the depth-map image produced by computer graphics (CG). The proposed algorithm is a technique that performs CGH (computer generated hologram) operation with only the recursive addition from the hologram's whole coordinates by analyzing the regularity between the 3D object and the digital hologram coordinates. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm increased operation speed by 30% over the technique using the conventional CGH equation.

  • An optical arrangement has been set inside a photo-spectrometer to measure the reflectance of IR optics materials in mid IR range. The optical arrangement consists of equally spaced 4 gold coated full reflecting mirrors with the incidence angle of 45°. Baseline beam intensity IB has been measured while the beam proceeds through the 4 mirrors. Reflectance of a mirror has been estimated from the IB. And the beam intensity IS with the specimen in the optical path has been measured with the 4th mirror replaced with the specimen. Reflectance of the specimen has been estimated from the value of IS/IB. Then the estimated reflectance has been put in Fresnel equation relating reflectance and refractive index(RI) to estimate the RI of the material. Measurement has been made for sapphire, germanium, magnesium fluoride, and zinc sulfide. The estimated RI of the materials are closely matching with reference data and the maximum difference less than 2% over the wavelength range 3-5㎛ for all materials tested. As an FT-IR photo-spectrometer with a broadband wavelength infrared light source is used, this method has the advantage of measuring the refractive index at multiple wavelengths in a single measurement.

  • In order to enhance the connectivity of fracture network as fluid path in enhanced/engineered geothermal system (EGS), the exact locating of hydraulic fractured zone is very important. Hydraulic fractures can be tracked by locating of microseismic events which are occurred during hydraulic fracture stimulation at each stage. However, since the subsurface velocity is changed due to hydraulic fracturing at each stage, in order to find out the exact location of microseismic events, we have to consider the velocity change due to hydraulic fracturing at previous stage when we perform the mapping of microseimic events at the next stage. In this study, we have modified 3D locating algorithm of microseismic data which was developed by Kim et al. (2015) and have developed 3D velocity update algorithm using occurred microseismic data. Eikonal equation which can efficiently calculate traveltime for complex velocity model at anywhere without shadow zone is used as forward engine in our inversion. Computational cost is dramatically reduced by using Fresnel volume approach to construct Jacobian matrix in velocity inversion. Through the numerical test which simulates the geothermal survey geometry, we demonstrated that the initial velocity model was updated by using microseismic data. In addition, we confirmed that relocation results of microseismic events by using updated velocity model became closer to true locations.

  • Lenses with an ultra wide angle of view are usually called fisheye lenses since a fish can see an ultra wide panoramic view under water. As the angle of view for these kinds of lenses reaches a wide angle, the illumination on an image sensor is reduced by a rapid drop. In this paper, we discuss the causes and the ways to correct for a rapid drop. First, it is treated for the sign convention of directional cosine vectors and normal vectors on the curved surface by means of analytic geometry. And, from the fundamental discussion for these vectors, the rapid illumination drop is numerically analyzed for various kinds of causes by utilizing geometrical optics and radiometry as well as Fresnel equations derived from electromagnetic boundary conditions. As a result, we are able to get the full understanding for the rapid illumination drop and to propose ways to correct effects due to an wide angle of view.

  • In this paper, we presetn a new method to display 3-D image modelled as a sum of 2-D sliced images by expanding the concept of the conventional 2-D optical correlator based on spatial matched filtr to the 3-D region. It is hsown that a arbitrary image can be constructed by an array of the correlation-peaks between pixel-to-pixel and propose the systhesis precedure of 3-D spatial-matched-fjilter using fresnel diffraction equation to display 3-D image in space. It is also shown that the quantization problem is severe when the systehsised filter function is displayed on the conventional LC-SLM. To overcome this problem, anonlinear quantizaton method using the sigmoid function is suggested, and this method can reduce the bias and the loss of high spatial-frequency information, and improve the diffraction efficiency. Finally, the suggested method is tested by computer simulation and then approved by some optical experiments with the conventional LC-SLM.
