This paper describes an improved 2D QPS(quadrature polar separable) filter design and its applications to texture processing. The filter kernel pair consists of the product of a radial weighting function based on the finite PSS (prolate spheroidal sequences) and an exponential at tenuation function for the orientational angle. It is quadrature and polar separable in the frequency domain. It is near optimal in the energy loss because we let the orientational angle function approximate the radial weighting function. The filter frequency characteristics is easy to control as it depends only upon the design specifications such as the bandwidth, the directional angle, the attenuation constant, and the shift constant of the central frequency. Some applications of the filter in texture processing, such as the generation of the texture image, the estimation of orientation angles, and the segmentations for the synthetic texture image, are considered. The result shows that the filter with the wide bandwidth can be used for the generation of discrimination of the strong orientational textures and the segmentation results are good.
In this paper, we propose a new video watermarking method exploiting the human visual system (HVS) to find effective locations. in the video frames which make the watermark robust and imperceptible simultaneously. In particular, we propose a new HVS-optimized weighting map for hiding the watermark by considering HVS in three different aspects : frequency, spatial, and motion masking effects. The global masking map is modeled by combining the frequency masking, the spatial masking, and the motion masking. In this paper, we use a watermark which is generated by the bitwise exclusive-OR operation between a logo image and a random sequence. The amount of watermarks is weighted by a control parameter. Furthermore, we embed the watermark in the uncompressed video sequence for the general watermarking method available to various coding schemes. Simulation results show that the watermark is imperceptible and the proposed method is good for watermark capacity. It is also demonstrated that the proposed method is robust against various attacks, such as MPEG coding, MPEG re-encoding, and frame attacks.

Recently, the high-precision vibration attenuation technology becomes the essence fo the seccessful development of high-integrated and ultra-precision industries, and is expected to continue playing a key role in the enhancement of manufacturing technology. Vibration isolation system using an air-spring is widely employed owing to its excellent isolation characteristics in a wide frequency range. It has, however, some drawbacks such as low-stiffness and low-damping features and can be easily excited by exogenous disturbances, and then vibration of table is remained for a long time. Consequently, the need for active vibration control for an air-spring vibration isolation system becomes inevitable. Furthermore, for an air-spring isolation table to be successfully employed in a variety of manufacturing sites, it should have a guaranteed robust performance not only to exogenous disturbances but also to uncertainties due to various equipments which might be put on the table. In this study, an active vibration suppression control system using H.inf. theory is designed and experiments are performed to verify its robust performance. An air-spring vibration isolation table with voice-coil-motors as its actuators is designed and built. The table is modeled as 3 degree-of-freedom system. An active control system is designed based on $H_\infty$control theory using frequency-shaped weighting functions. Analysis on its performance and frequency responce properties are done through numerical simulations. Robust characteristics of$H_\infty$ control on disturbances and model uncertainties are experimentally verified through (i) the transient response to the impact excitation of the table, (ii) the steady-state response to the harmonic excitation, and (iii) the response to the mass change of the table itself. An LQG controller is also designed and its performance is compared with the $H_\infty$ controller.

In this pater, authors derive the state - space equiation about the patallel - type inverted pendulum which is adopted as control object, and constitute the control system by $H_\infty$control theory. The modeling error is unavoidably existed by linearization error, and so on. We regard this modeling error which is determined from the identification through frequency response as unstructured model uncertainty. An augmented state - space equiation with frequency weighting function is constructed for application of the $H_\infty$theory, and the mixed sensitivity problem is considered. The weighting functions are determined in consideration of the model uncertainty and the response of system in frequency region. The $H_\infty$controller is designed by using software package for controller design. From results of response simulation, the control system designed with $H_\infty$theory guarantees low sensitivity for disturbance as well as robustness against the model uncertainties.

Recently, studies of relevance feedback to increase the performance of image retrieval has been activated. In this Paper a new region weighting method in region based image retrieval with relevance feedback is proposed to reduce the semantic gap between the low level feature representation and the high level concept in a given query image. The new weighting method determines the importance of regions according to the spatial locations of regions in an image. Experimental results demonstrate that the retrieval quality of our method is about 18% in recall better than that of area percentage approach. and about 11% in recall better than that of region frequency weighted by inverse image frequency approach and the retrieval time of our method is a tenth of that of region frequency approach.

The three-down one-up method which is commonly used in the field of psychophysics is employed in this study that is to reveal how much magnitude of vibration makes discomfort in passenger vehicle on idle condition. Thirteen taxi drivers were invited for subject of the experiment where they evaluated the controlled vibrations on rigid seat in terms of idle vibration on passenger vehicle at frequency range from 15 Hz to 40 Hz. As the result, vibration of 100~105 dB is marginal range to make discomfort on passenger seat. Frequency dependency of the discomfort was found at the frequency range, which is the higher frequency the lower discomfort with the same magnitude of vibration. The frequency dependency found here was compared with ISO 2631-1 that is more sensitive at the frequency range.
The optimum design of structures with frequency constraints is of great importance in the aeronautical industry. In order to avoid severe vibration, it is necessary to shift the fundamental frequency of the structure away from the frequency range of the dynamic loading. This paper develops a novel topology optimisation method for optimising the fundamental frequencies of structures. The finite element dynamic eigenvalue problem is solved to derive the sensitivity function used for the optimisation criteria. An alternative material interpolation scheme is developed and applied to the optimisation problem. A novel level-set criteria and updating routine for the weighting factors is presented to determine the optimal topology. The optimisation algorithm is applied to a simple two-dimensional plane stress plate to verify the method. Optimisation for maximising a chosen frequency and maximising the gap between two frequencies are presented. This has the application of stiffness maximisation and flutter suppression. The results of the optimisation algorithm are compared with the state of the art in frequency topology optimisation. Test cases have shown that the algorithm produces similar topologies to the state of the art, verifying that the novel technique is suitable for frequency optimisation.

An improved method based on a normal frequency response function (FRF) is proposed to identify structural parameters such as mass, stiffness and damping matrices directly from the FRFs of a linear mechanical system. The method for estimating structural parameters directly from the measured FRFs of a structure is presented. This paper demonstrates that the characteristic matrices are extracted more accurately by using a weighted equation and eliminating the matrix inverse operation. The method is verified for a four degree-of-freedom lumped parameter system and an eight degree-of-freedom finite element beam. Experimental verification is also performed for a free-free steel beam whose size and physical properties are the same as those of the finite element beam. The results show that the structural parameters, especially the damping matrix, can be estimated more accurately by the proposed method.
This paper proposes a new method for tuning a linear quadratic - proportional integral derivative controller for second order systems to simultaneously meet the time and frequency domain design specifications. The suitable loop-shape of the controlled system and the desired step response are considered as specifications in the time and frequency domains, respectively. The weighting factors, Q and R of the LQ controller are determined by the algebraic Riccati equation with respect to the limiting behavior and target function matching. Numerical examples show the effectiveness of the proposed LQ-PID tuning method

The A-weighting curve, very well explain the human perception for various frequency, is used to assess the traffic noise as well as the environmental noise. However, it does not reflect the annoyance perception appropriately because it assesses the noise at an A-weighted equivalent noise level of 1 kHz. In this study, we acquired the sound quality of traffic noise included various frequency and studied the human perception caused by change of frequency range.
