  • The U-slot patch antenna has been found experimentally to provide impedance and gain bandwidths. Experiment and simulation results include impedance bandwidth, copolar and crosspolar-pattern characteristics and gain measurements. If one of the parameters such as patch width or feed position is varied, U-slot patch can also function as a dual-frequency antenna.

  • This paper presents a dual-mode amplifier which operates as amplifier or frequency multiplier according to the input frequency. It satisfies the 802.11a/b/g frequency band of wireless LAN standard. A conventional dual-band wireless LAN transmitter consists of the separating power amplifiers operating at each frequency band, but the proposed dual-mode amplifier operates as an amplifier for the 802.11b/g signal and as a frequency multiplier for the 802.11a signal according to each LAN bias condition. The amplifier mode shows the gain of 13dB, the PldB of 17dBm and second harmonic suppression of below -37dBc. And the frequency-doubler mode shows the gain of 3.3dB, the output power of 7.3dBm and third harmonic suppression of below -50dBr.

  • An overview of Silicon Carbide (SiC) Static Induction Transistor (SIT) development is presented. Basic conduction mechanisms are introduced and discussed, including ohmic, exponential, and space charge limited conduction (SCLC) mechanisms. Additionally, the impact of velocity saturation and temperature effects on SCLC are reviewed. The small-signal model, breakdown voltage, power density, and different gate structures are also discussed, before a final review of published SiC SIT results. Published S-band (3-4 GHz) results include 9.5 dB of gain and output power of 120 W, and L-band (1.3 GHz) results include 400 W output power, 7.7 dB of gain, and power density of 16.7 W/cm.

  • We extend numerical analysis investigating the waveguide parameter dependency of the two resonant frequencies at the small-signal gain regime in a waveguide free-electron laser to the case that there exists a nonlinear coupling. The properties of the nonlinear interaction between the two resonant waves, one with higher frequency and positive slippage and the another one with lower frequency and negative slippage, are numerically investigated in the high gain regime. The results of numerical work with a set of partial differential equations describing the space and time interaction of the two resonant waves are analyzed.

  • This paper proposes a design method of PID controllers in the framework of a constrained optimization problem. Owing to the popularity for the controller's simplicity and robustness, a great deal of literature concerning PID control design has been published, which can be classified into frequency-based and time-based approaches. However, both approaches have to be considered together for a designed PID control to work well with a guaranteed closed-loop stability. For this purpose, a penalty function is formulated to satisfy both frequency- and time-domain specifications, and is minimized by a recet nonlinear optimization algorithm to attain optimal PID control gains. The proposed method is compared with Wang's and Ho's methods on a suite of example systems. Simulation results show that the PID control tuned by the proposed method improves time-domain performance without deteriorating closed-loop stability.

  • In this paper, we used Helmholtz solver based on 3D finite element method to quantitatively analyze the effects of change of gain, time delay and time delay spread, which are the main variables of flame transfer function, on combustion instability in gas turbine combustor. The effects of the variable of flame transfer function on the frequency and growth rate, which are the main results of combustion instability, were analyzed by applying the conventional heat release fluctuation model and modified one considering the time spread. The analysis results showed that the change of gain and time delay in the same resonance mode affected the frequency of the given resonance modes as well as growth rate of the feedback instability, however, the effect of time delay spread was not relatively remarkable, compared with the dominant effect of time delay.

  • This paper presents an inductorless 8-Gb/s adaptive passive equalizer with low-power consumption and small chip area. The equalizer has a tunable RC filter which provides high-frequency gain boosting and a limiting amplifier that restores the signal level from the filter output. It also includes a feedback loop which automatically adjusts the filter gain for the optimal frequency response. The equalizer fabricated in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology can successfully equalize 8-Gb/s data transmitted through up to 50-cm FR4 PCB channels. It consumes 6.75 mW from 1.8-V supply voltage and occupies $0.021mm^2$ of chip area.

  • Conventionally, for transferring the primary power to the secondary one, the high frequency series resonant converter has been widely used for the contactless power supply system. However, the high frequency series resonant converter has the disadvantages such as the low efficiency, the high voltage gain characteristics and deviation of the phase angle in the overall load range. To improve this disadvantages, In this paper, the characteristics of the high efficiency and unit voltage gain as well as in-phase are revealed in the proposed three-level LCLC (Inductor-Capacitor- Inductor-Capacitor) resonant converter. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 4kW experimental Prototype.

  • In this paper, a method deciding the permissible gains of the P and PT controllers for a retarded process under stable condition is proposed. For analysis, the controlled process is assumed to be first-order system with time delay. At first, the adjustable parameter sets causing stability limit are obtained based on the frequency domain condition which makes the roots of the characteristic equation locate on the imaginary axis. And the cut-in frequency ${\omega}_p$ to bring the parameter set to P control from PI control is derived is derived in terms of L and $T_m$ then ${\omega}_p$ is used to compute the maximum gain with stable condition. The results indicate that the permissible controller gains can be described by a unique if parameters L and $T_m$ are know.
