  • Seismic responses of the Hualien large scale seismic test model on a layered soil site are estimated for two recorded earthquakes and the analysis results are then compared and evaluated with the recorded responses. The method adopted for the analysis is based on substructuring method using a lumped parameter model in both the frequency and time domain. the study results indicate that the proposed method can reasonably estimate the earthquake responses of a soil-structure interaction system for engineering purposes.

  • Although an ideal low-pass filter is not physically realizable, it can be approximated on the basis of time reversal techniques. In this paper, we describe a method to approximately implement the ideal low-pass filter and apply it to the pitch extraction system. Experimental results show that our method is effective to estimate the fundamental frequency of the speech signal.

  • This study introduces a simulation model of radar responses with frequencies on subsurface voids in concrete. In this model, the resolution and the attenuation according to radar frequencies in each interface which has different electromagnetic property are analyzed. This model aims to select the best frequency of radar which can analyze the thickness of voids in concrete from radar response. It also can be applied to estimate the limitation of propagation depth of radar on subsurface voids in concrete. The computed results show the radar images based on radar signal processing using convolution technique.

  • Dynamic loads may arise from rotating parte of pump if they are insufficiently balanced. The magnitude of pump induced vibrations varies according to the weight, eccentricity, and unbalanced mass of pump. This is a study to estimate the pump induced vibration in time and frequency domain by transfer function. The transfer function has real and imaginary information of signals, and response function has also real and imaginary information. So the vibration force can be obtained from the response and transfer function by complex calculation. The amplitudes and components of 50Hp pump vibration force are suggested.

  • In order to detect and track target, submarine gather the target information(bearing, range, frequency and so on) with using multiple sensors. And submarine can estimate target states with target information. In this paper, we suggest the target motion analysis(TMA) filter architecture of submarine and the proposed TMA filter architecture is tested by a series of computer simulation runs and the results are analyzed and verified.

  • In this study, we performed a non-stationary frequency analysis using a power model and the model was applied for Seoul, Daegu, Daejeon, Mokpo sites in Korea to estimate the probable precipitation amount at the target years (2020, 2050, 2080). We used the annual maximum precipitation of 24 hours duration of precipitation using data from 1973 to 2009. We compared results to that of non-stationary analyses using the linear and logistic regression. The probable precipitation amounts using linear regression showed very large increase in the long term projection, while the logistic regression resulted in similar amounts for different target years because the logistic function converges before 2020. But the probable precipitation amount for the target years using a power model showed reasonable results suggesting that power model be able to reflect the increase of hydrologic extremes reasonably well.

  • This study deals with 2D and 3D nonlinear seismic damage analysis of a concrete gravity dam using the finite element program ABAQUS and the concrete damaged plasticity model. 2D and 3D spillway sections of the dam are simulated. First the frequency analysis is conducted to compare the fundamental frequency and estimate the value of damping coefficient. Then the seismic analysis is conducted using the simulated ground acceleration motion. The relative displacement between the crest and bottom of the dam is obtained and compared for the maximum value and occurrence time. The results indicate that the plane-stress assumption gives similar results of maximum relative displacement and final damage distribution with 3D analysis.

  • In this study, structural behavior of plastic greenhouse foundation was investigated using rational finite element modeling for structures which have different material properties each other. Because the concrete foundation of plastic greenhouse and soil which surround and support the concrete foundation have very different material property, the boundary between two structures were modeled by a interface element. The interface element was able to represent sliding, separation, uplift and re-bonding of the boundary between concrete foundation and soil. The results of static and dynamic analysis showed that horizontal and vertical displacement of concrete foundation displayed a decreasing tendency with increasing depth of foundation. The second frequency from modal analysis of structure including foundation and soil was estimate to closely related with wind load.

  • This paper is to see the availability of electrical signatures as a means for evaluating the performance and monitoring mechanical anomalies of (MOVs). To estimate motor torque, two methods such as d-q frame conversion and air-gap method are suggested and estimated results are compared with measured values. The error between measured and estimated torques is within acceptable error bound with below $1\%$ under varied load. Frequency domain analysis of calculated torque has been done as well. It is shown that monitoring of peak frequency could give useful clues to detect anomalies of MOV. As results, electrical signatures at MOV motor is expected to be an available tool for estimation of motor capacity and monitoring of electrical and mechanical abnormalities.
