  • The lakes' metabolism bears important information for the assessment of the carbon budget due to the accumulation or loss of carbon in the lake as well as the dynamics of the food webs through primary production. A lake-scale metabolism is evaluated by Gross Primary Production (GPP), Ecosystem Respiration (R), and Net Ecosystem Production (NEP), which is the difference between the first two values. Methods for estimating GPP and R are based on the levels carbon and oxygen. Estimation of carbon is expensive because of the use of radioactive materials which requires a high degree of proficiency. The purpose of this study was to estimate Lake Daecheong ecosystem metabolism using high frequency water temperature data and DO measurement sensor, widely utilized in the field of water quality monitoring, and to evaluate the possibility of using the application method. High frequency data was collected at intervals of 10 minutes from September to December 2017 by installing a thermistor chain and a DO sensor in downstream of Daechung Dam. The data was then used to estimate GPP, R and NEP using the R public program LakeMetabolizer, and other metabolism models (mle, ols, kalman, bookkeep). Calculations of gas exchange coefficient methods (cole, crusius, heiskanen, macIntyre, read, soloviev, vachon) were compared. According to the result, Lake Daecheong has some deviation based on the application method, but it was generally estimated that the NEP value is negative and acts as a source of atmospheric carbon in a heterotrophic system. Although the high frequency sensor data used in this study had negative and positive GPP and R values during the physical mixing process, they can be used to monitor real-time metabolic changes in the ecosystem if these problems are solved.

  • Muscle fatigue is characterized as a progressive increase in discomfort arising from the active muscle at moderate load levels are maintained. The median frequency is the most commonly used as a parameter to describe muscle fatigue. However, the estimate of the median frequency is difficult to indicate muscle fatigue because of its high standard deviation and instability. This paper investigates the power changes of the appropriate low frequency band as a fatigue parameter in EMG during isotonic exercise. To select the appropriate band, linear regression lines are employed to calculate the slopes and the coefficient of determination. Three females and seven males volunteered to participate in surface EMG recordings placed on the biceps brachii and each recording experiment continued until their exhaustion. The results of experiment shows that the power changes of the selected low frequency band (15~45 Hz) have linear slopes and high determinant coefficients. Therefore, this fatiguing parameter using the power changes of the low frequency band is valid to measure the state of muscular fatigue.

  • In this paper we analyze the performance of 2-D PSAM for wireless OFDM systems. We apply the analysis of single-carrier PSAM to the 2-D time-frequency lattice of OFDM. To estimate channel fading, we use interpolation filter which minimizes the average power of error as compensation method and analyze the affects on the system performance of the pilot symbol pattern on the 2-D time-frequency lattice. Finally according to the CP and the Doppler frequency, we analyze the performance of 2-D PSA-16QAM for OFDM systems over frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel model.

  • This study was designed to estimate the improvement of Validity for food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) by offering multiple choice portion size in developing a questionnaire. Validity of the two methods(food frequency questionnaire I=FFQ I & Food frequency questionnaire II=FFQ II) was tested in comparison with reference method of the 7-day weighed record(7DWR). Dietary consumption data of the three methods(FFQ I, FFQ II & 7DWR) were collected from 101 female university students for the analysis. Validity was measured in two categories : One was the nutrient intake value from the three methods, the other was the identification of between individual variation within the group. Spearman's rank order correlation test and distribution graphs were used for the analysis. The result showed that individual intake value of the FFQII was closer to that of the 7DWR than that of the FFQ I.Spearman's rank order correlation between the FFQII and the 7DWR did not show any improved correlation. The distribution graphs of nutrient intake derived from both the FFQ I and the FFQII were different from that of the 7DWR. Therefore, it could be suggested that single one portion size food frequency questionnaire is an equally efficient method as a multiple choice food frequency questionnaire to be adopted in epidemiologic studies.

  • In this paper, we investigate design criteria and the performance of the space-frequency bit-interleaved coded modulation (SF-BICM) systems in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. To determine the key parameters that affect the performance of SF-BICM, we derive the pairwise error probability (PEP) in terms of the determinant of the matrix corresponding to any two codewords. We prove that the bit-interleavers do the function of distributing the nonzero bits uniformly such that two or more nonzero bits are seldom distributed into the symbols that are transmitted in the same frequency bin. This implies that the bit-interleavers transform an SF-BICM system into an equivalent 1-antenna system. Based on this, we present design criteria of SFBICM systems that maximizes the diversity order and the coding gain. Then, we analyze the performance of SF-BICM for the case of 2-transmit antennas and 2-multipaths by deriving a frame error rate (FER) bound. The derived bound is accurate and requires only the distance spectrum of the constituent codes of SF-BICM. Numerical results reveal that the bound is tight enough to estimate the performance of SF-BICM very accurately.

  • The regularity of railway track alignment is a crucial component fur maintaining travel safety and the smoothness of passenger ride. The conventional spectral analysis has been considered to estimate the severity of the track irregularity from measured data. The time domain data used to be changed into the frequency domain by Fourier transform. Because the measuring points can be regarded as the time points, the spatial-frequency can be introduced instead of the time-frequency. Although FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) and/or PSD(Power Spectral Density) function could provide fairly localized information within frequency domain, but chronical configurations of data could be missed. In this study, we attempt to apply the Morlet wavelet transform for the purpose of a frequency-time-domain analysis rather than a frequency-domain analysis. The applicability of wavelet transform is examined for the estimation of the track irregularity with real measured track data on the section of Kyoung-bu line by EM-120 measuring vehicle. It is shown that the wavelet transform can be an effective tool to manage the track irregularity.

  • It is proposed to use a pair of frequency-domain adaptive digital filters to estimate the magnitude squared coherence (MSC) functions of two signals. Such a method requires less computations than the LMS-MSC algorithm in which the least mean square (LMS) algorithm is applied in the time domain to compute the coefficients of a pair of adaptive digital filters. The frequency-domain adaptive digital filtering algorithms considered in this paper include the constrained frequency domain LMS (CFLMS) and the unconstrained frequency domain LMS (UFLMS) algorithms. The performance of the proposed methods are compared with those of the LMS-MSC algorithm.

  • Working displacement variation by elastic deformation of active Gurney flap which was operated on high frequency was observed. Flap-wise natural frequency was lower than mode analysis result and hinge boundary condition was identified to be the cause through the simple modal test. Design modification for increasing natural frequency was conducted for minimizing the elastic deformation at maximum 35 Hz operating condition which was design requirement condition. Brass bushing was applied instead of rotating bearing for gap minimization and Gurney flap design modification was conducted to increase of the flap-wise natural frequency. Design modification effect was validated by natural frequency comparison with mode analysis result and modal test result of design modification model.

  • This paper presents recent developments in an extremely compact, wireless impedance sensor node (the WID3, $\underline{W}$ireless $\underline{I}$mpedance $\underline{D}$evice) for use in high-frequency impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM), sensor diagnostics and validation, and low-frequency (< ~1 kHz) vibration data acquisition. The WID3 is equipped with an impedance chip that can resolve measurements up to 100 kHz, a frequency range ideal for many SHM applications. An integrated set of multiplexers allows the end user to monitor seven piezoelectric sensors from a single sensor node. The WID3 combines on-board processing using a microcontroller, data storage using flash memory, wireless communications capabilities, and a series of internal and external triggering options into a single package to realize a truly comprehensive, self-contained wireless active-sensor node for SHM applications. Furthermore, we recently extended the capability of this device by implementing low-frequency analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters so that the same device can measure structural vibration data. The compact sensor node collects relatively low-frequency acceleration measurements to estimate natural frequencies and operational deflection shapes, as well as relatively high-frequency impedance measurements to detect structural damage. Experimental results with application to SHM, sensor diagnostics and low-frequency vibration data acquisition are presented.
