A new time series method, directional ARMAX (dARMAX) model-based approach. is proposed for rotor dynamics identification. The dARMAX processes complex-valued signals, utilizing the complex modal testing theory which enables the separation of the backward and forward modes in the two-sided frequency domain and makes effective modal parameter identification possible, to account for the dynamic characteristics inherent in rotating machinery. This paper is divided into two parts : The dARMAX modeling, analysis. and fitting strategy are presented in the first part. whereas a evaluation of its performance characteristics based on both simulated and experimental data is presented in the second.

The modeling of an active vibration isolation system is accomplished by using the equivalent spring constant, mass and rotational Inertia of each component. The detailed model of the actuation module is successful for describing its frequency-domain performance but also too complicated to implement it to actual system for control so that the order of the model is reduced up to the degree that preserves its characteristic in the low frequency range. The reduced model is suitable for identifying the unknown system parameters such as damping constants of components. The overall isolation system is described by using the reduced model of the actuation module. The accurate model ing and system parameter identification that is essential for the control of the active vibration isolation system is attained successfully.

The boundary reaction method(BRM) is a substructure time domain method, it removes global iterations between frequency and time domain analyses commonly required in the hybrid approaches, so that it operates as a two-step uncoupled method. The BRM offers a two-step method as follows: (1) the calculation of boundary reaction forces in the frequency domain on an interface of linear and nonlinear regions, (2) solving the wave radiation problem subjected to the boundary reaction forces in the time domain. In the time domain analysis, the near-field soil is modeled to simulate the wave radiation problem. This paper evaluates the performance of the BRM according to modeling extent of near-field soil for the nonlinear SSI analysis of base-isolated NPP structure. For this purpose, parametric studies are performed using equivalent linear SSI problems. The accuracy of the BRM solution is evaluated by comparing the BRM solution with that of conventional SSI seismic technique. The numerical results show that the soil condition affects the modeling range of near-field soil for the BRM analysis as well as the size of the basemat. Finally, the BRM is applied for the nonlinear SSI analysis of a base-isolated NPP structure to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
Waveform inversion requires extracting a reliable low frequency content of seismic data for estimating of the low wave number velocity model. The low frequency content of the seismic data is usually discarded or neglected because of the band-limited response of the source and the receivers. In this study, however small the spectral of the low frequency seismic data is, we assume that it is possible to extract a reliable phase information of the low frequency from the seismic data and use it in waveform inversion. To this end, we exploit the frequency domain finite element modeling and source-receiver reciprocity to calculate the $Frech\`{e}t$ derivative of the phase of the seismic data with respect to the earth model parameter such as velocity, and then apply a damped least squares method to invert the phase of the seismic data. Through numerical example, we will attempt to demonstrate the feasibility of our method in estimating the correct velocity model for prestack depth migration.

In recent years, gradually increasing interest has been directed to the use of terahertz technology in nondestructive testing and non-invasive measurements, and terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has become a key technology in such applications. This paper deals with the terahertz pulse generation from cadmium telluride via optical rectification process of femto-second infrared laser pulses. The measured terahertz spectrum is compared with the result of model calculation based on space-time domain nonlinear Maxwell equations for coherent frequency mixing process. The propagation process of terahertz and infra-red pulses in the material as well as the surface interference and free space diffraction effects are also considered. The experimental results are in good agreements with the calculated spectrum.

A simple postprocessing algorithm is proposed to reduce the blocky artifacts of Block Discrete Cosine Transform (BDCT) coded images. Since the block noise is mostly antisymmetric relative to the block boundaries, we model the blocky noise as one-dimensional antisymmertric functions made by superposing DCT basis functions. observing the frequency characteristics of the noies model, we approximate its high frequency components as those of step functions. Then the proposed postprocessing algorithm eliminates the carefully selected high frequency components of step functions in the one-dimensional sN-point DCT domain, when the encoding block size is $N\;{\times}\;N$. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can also be performed in the spatial domain without computational burden of transforms. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm well reduces the blocky artifacts in both subjective and objectie viewpoints.

In this paper, as one of countermeasure techniques for a frequency selective fading, a digital slope equalizer(DSE) for 64-QAM digital radio relay system is analyzed in terms of principle, channel modeling, and digital implementation. Also computer simulations have been performed for DSE with a complex 13-tap adaptive time domain equalizer chip. It is shown that about 4.5 dB improvement in system signature can be obtained at the channel edge, and a variety of simulated results are reviewed in view of DSE modeling limit, operating frequency, control coefficient, signal constellation, and system signature. Finally, the functions of DSE chip confirmed up to 61 MHz clock operation are illustrated.

Grounding system insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low impedance path for fault currents in the earth. The ground impedance as function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. Copper and concrete rod electrodes are the most commonly used grounding electrode in electric distribution systems. In this paper, the ground impedance of copper and concrete rods has been measured by frequency and time domain characteristic tests. An equivalent transfer function model of the ground impedance is identified from the measured values by using ARMA method and evaluated by comparing conventional grounding impedances.

In this work, Altair Engineering's vibroacoustic modeling approach is used to simulate the acoustic signature of a simplified automobile in a wind tunnel. The modeling approach relies on a two step procedure involving simulation and extraction of acoustic sources using a high fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation followed by propagation of the acoustic energy within the structure and passenger compartment using a structural dynamics solver. The tools necessary to complete this process are contained within Altair's HyperWorks CAE software suite. The CFD simulations are performed using AcuSolve and the structural simulations are performed using OptiStruct. This vibroacoustics simulation methodology relies on calculation of the acoustic sources from the flow solution computed by AcuSolve. The sources are based on Lighthill's analogy and are sampled directly on the acoustic mesh. Once the acoustic sources have been computed, they are transformed into the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) with advanced sampling and are subsequently used in the structural acoustics model. Although this approach does require the CFD solver to have knowledge of the acoustic simulation domain a priori, it avoids modeling errors introduced by evaluation of the acoustic source terms using dissimilar meshes and numerical methods. The aforementioned modeling approach is demonstrated on the Hyundai Simplified Model (HSM) geometry in this work. This geometry contains flow features that are representative of the dominant noise sources in a typical automobile design; namely vortex shedding from the passenger compartment A-pillar and bluff body shedding from the side view mirrors. The geometry also contains a thick poroelastic material on the interior that acts to reduce the acoustic noise. This material is modeled using a Biot material formulation during the structural acoustic simulation. Successful prediction of the acoustic noise within the HSM geometry serves to validate the vibroacoustic modeling approach for automotive applications.

For an efficient finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) analysis of coaxial-probe feeding structures in radio frequency(RF) and microwave bands, an interrelation between equivalent source modeling techniques is investigated. In existing literature, equivalent source models with delta-gap or magnetic-frill concepts have been developed by many researchers. It is well known that FDTD implementation and computational accuracy of these source models are slightly different. In this paper, the interrelation between FDTD equivalent source models for coaxial feeding structures under the quasi-static approximation(QSA) is presented. As a function of FDTD equivalent source models, time-domain and frequency-domain responses of a coaxial-probe fed conical monopole antenna are calculated numerically. And comparison results of computational accuracy and efficiency are provided.
