  • For continuous laser micro patterning on three-dimensional free form surface, innovative laser system is developed. The two axis galvanometer is combined with the dynamic focusing unit to increase optical distance. Also, it is synchronized with the 3 axis mechanical system. To determine laser machining sequence, laser CAM system is developed. It can make possible of 3D surface micro patterning under $25{\mu}m$ pattern width. The uniformity of pattern width is about 2.8% and it is validated that focal plane is well conserved by the dynamic focusing unit. Velocity and positional information of 1 axis is stage is fed to the scanner control board by the encoder signal and it makes possible real time synchronization. With this system, possible patterning volume is enlarged from $40{\times}40mm^2$ to $40{\times}120{\times}30mm^3$.

  • A robust all-fiber nonlinear amplifying loop-mirror-based mode-locked femtosecond laser is demonstrated. Power-dependent nonlinear phase shift in a Sagnac loop enables stable and power-efficient mode-locking working as an artificial saturable absorber. The pump power is adjusted to achieve the lowest intensity noise for stable long-term operation. The minimum pump power for mode-locking is 180 mW, and the optimal pump power is 300 mW. The lowest integrated root-mean-square relative intensity noise of a free-running mode-locked laser is 0.009% [integration bandwidth: 1 Hz-10 MHz]. The long-term repetition-rate instability of a free-running mode-locked laser is 10-7 over 1,000 s averaging time. The repetition-rate phase noise scaled at 10-GHz carrier is -122 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz Fourier frequency. The demonstrated method can be applied as a seed source in high-precision real-time mid-infrared molecular spectroscopy.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain the data of prestep in cavity preparation by observing changed conditions of laser irradiated dental hard tissues. The forty five extracted caries free human molars were divided into three groups and each group into five subgroups. A $CO_2$ laser irradiation was performed each subgroup of group I for one second with output power of 5 W, 10 Wand 20 W. On group II, laser irradiation was done ten times for 0.1 second duration using same power ratings as group I. On group III, laser irradiation was done 0.1 second, 0.2 second and 0.4 second with output power of 50 W. We investigated mineral contents and crater wall of obtained specimens, i.e., laser irradiated teeth, using computer controlled electron probe microanalyzer and scanning electron microscope. The following results were obtained: 1. Both calcium and phosphorus contents in laser irradiated enamel crater wall were increased, and magnesium content was decreased, but these trends were not statistically significant. 2. In laser irradiated dentin, change of mineral content was more significant. 3. In laser irradiated enamel and dentin, there were no significant differences on mineral content change due to irradiation condition and energy density. 4. In scanning electron microscopic study, enamel rods of the crater wall were fused and clefts were observed in parallel with the direction of enamel rod for all groups. 5. In laser irradiated dentin, irregular fusion and clefts were observed. In irradiated teeth with high power and short duration, the locally formed narrow crater wall was observed.

  • A microwave free electron laser which consists of Marx generator, vacuum diode, bifilar helical wiggler, and guide solenoid was designed and constructed. The analysis of the magnetic field distributions of the bifilar helical wiggler and computer simulation of electron trajectories with the perpendicular effect of space charges led to the conclusion that the magnetic field distributions are suitable for the electron beam injection. • To enhance biocompatibility between the orthopedic implant stem and obsteoblast cells, bone-forming cells, micro-size holes are patterned in Ti plate surface. Initially, the house built laser power stabilization system is applied to the laser micro patterning machine to convince repeatable result. Various pulse widths are irradiated Ti plate and relationship between diameters of patterned holes and pulsed width is derived. Effect of multi pulse is observed and optimal pulse number is considered to avoid heat affected zone. After MG-63 osbeoblast cells are cultured, micro patterned Ti plates are compared with control plates. In SEM image, cells are well aligned and aggregation is observed in both 60, and $100{\mu}m$ patterned plates. Finally, free form surface stem model is prepared to test micro hole patterning.

  • We investigated the miniaturized free electron laser(FEL) module based on microcolumn. The miniaturized FEL is composed of two parts: electron generation part and radiation emission part. The radiation emission part, called wiggler, consists of a grid plate. While the electrons are passing through the wiggler, electron trajectory shows sinusoidal curve caused by the periodically applied voltage on the grid, and then it give rise to radiation emission. We analyzed the wiggler parameters, grid width, depth, period, applied voltage and the pair wiggler space using 2-D simulation tool.

  • We extend numerical analysis investigating the waveguide parameter dependency of the two resonant frequencies at the small-signal gain regime in a waveguide free-electron laser to the case that there exists a nonlinear coupling. The properties of the nonlinear interaction between the two resonant waves, one with higher frequency and positive slippage and the another one with lower frequency and negative slippage, are numerically investigated in the high gain regime. The results of numerical work with a set of partial differential equations describing the space and time interaction of the two resonant waves are analyzed.
