  • Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the factors that affect the acceptance of gluten-free rice pasta samples prepared with added buckwheat, mungbean, and acorn starches, and to compare sensory characteristics of samples with those of 100% semolina pasta. Methods: Descriptive analysis of pasta was conducted by 12 trained panels. Acceptance test was carried out by 40 consumers using 7-point hedonic scale. Collected data was statistically analyzed by principal component analysis, and partial least squares regression analysis. Results: Quantitative descriptive analysis showed that increasing amount of buckwheat, mungbean, and acorn starches resulted in significant improvement in gluten-free rice pasta properties, especially texture, hardness, chewiness, roughness, and al dente with increasing amount of sample starches, and decreased adhesiveness. In acceptance test, appearance and texture of gluten-free rice pasta with mungbean starch were preferred than pasta made with 100% rice. Flavor and taste was preferred in pasta with buckwheat starch than other pasta samples. Rice pasta with 30% buckwheat starch showed the highest score in overall acceptance among rice samples. Conclusion: This study suggested that adding mungbean starch could improve texture of gluten-free pasta, and adding buckwheat starch would improve taste and flavor of gluten-free rice pasta.

  • A method of calculating the excess Helmholtz free energy from the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio for two-center-Lennard-Jones liquids has been presented. The bent effective acceptance ratio has been newly composed from the acceptan ce ratio for the potential energy difference between a configuration in the Metropolis Monte Carlo procedure and random virtual configuration generated by the separate parallel Monte Carlo procedure and the Boltzmann factor for half the potential energy difference. The excess Helmholtz free energy was calculated directly from the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio through a single Metropolis Monte Carlo run. Because the separate parallel Monte Carlo procedure was used, this method can be applied to molecular dynamics simulations. For two-center-Lennard-Jones liquids, the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio gave better results than use of the modified effective acceptance ratio in the previous work.

  • In this paper, we propose a strategy of charging by analyzing the difference of path coefficient according to whether consumers are free or not, rather than presenting strategies for charging. Mobile devices have become so popular that they are called necessities. Companies have to adapt to the mobile environment and respond to the situation, and have to expand market opportunities strategically. In this study, we extend the technology acceptance model to analyze the incentives of consumers' behavior by analyzing the difference in the effect consumers perceive as a moderating variable, whether paid or free. Efforts to maximize company's inherent profit continue, and in particular, charging is a strategy that all companies should pursue in the mobile environments. It is necessary to grasp the degree of the consumer's response to free and charge. The model of satisfaction with the continuous use and the word-of-mouth intention, which is the behavior intention, is presented by adding parameters of satisfaction to the technology acceptance model. In addition, we try to derive implications by analyzing the influence of moderating effects of whether free or not.

  • The purpose of this study was to nut a survey on the seasonal menu and consumer's acceptance test of free meals for the elderly facility in Sungnam Region. The elderly meals of the free lunch meal service were mainly composed of staple food, hot soup, and three kinds of side dishes. Questionare for accentance test was developed based on the seasonal menu including 13 kinds of cooked rices, 43 kinds of soups and 94 kinds of side dishes. The test was run for 104 elderly living and receving the service in the area. Average age of the subjects was 75.9 and 43% was male 57% was female. The 81% and 88% of the subject answered 'yes' on the intake of breakfast and dinner respectively representing high percentages of regular meal habits of the elderly. The cooked rice with black beans had significantly the highest acceptance score among the rice group and soups prepared with chunggukjang and cabbage had higher accentance scores(P<0.05). In the side dish groups, broiled eed, croakers, and various kinds of namuls had relatively higher scores than the others with significant difference at P<0.05.

  • The method of calculating the excess Helmholtz free energy from the averaged effective acceptance ratio for the Lennard-Jones fluid and the inverse twelve fluid has been slightly modified and applied to the two-center-Lennard-Jones liquid. The excess Helmholtz free energy is calculated directly from the average of the modified effective acceptance ratio through a single Metropolis Monte Carlo simulation. Therefore this method does not need any reference system. The results of the present method were satisfactory compared with those of the perturbation theories and the overlap ratio method.

  • Background: This study aimed to examine the level of knowledge, attitude, acceptance, and willingness to pay (WTP) for HPV vaccination among female parents of girls aged 12-15 years in Thailand. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in eight schools across Bangkok. Results: Of 1,200 questionnaires sent out, a total of 861 questionnaires were received. Knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine among parents was quite low. Only half of the parents knew about the link between HPV and cervical cancer while one-third of them knew that the vaccine should be administered to the children before they become sexually active. Nevertheless, vaccine acceptance was high if it was offered for free: 76.9% for the bivalent and 74.4% for the quadrivalent vaccine. The proportion of respondents who were willing to copay for the vaccine if it was not totally free was also high, ranging from 68.9% for the bivalent to 67.3% for the quadrivalent vaccine. No significant difference between bivalent and quadrivalent vaccines in terms of prevalence of acceptance and willingness to pay was found. About one-third of the participants, who were willing to copay for the vaccine if it was not offered for free, indicated that they would copay less than 500 baht (30 baht = approx US$1) for three doses of bivalent vaccine. Conclusions: Substantial effort should be made to educate parents prior to introduction of a national HPV vaccination program. In terms of acceptance, either bivalent or quadrivalent vaccines can be recommended.

  • The Bayesian approach to reliability acceptance sampling has several advantages over the non-Bayesian approach. For instance, the former usually requires less amount of testing time and smaller sample sizes than the latter. In this article, a Bayesian acceptance sampling plan(ASP) based on a failure-free period life test is developed under the assumption of exponential lifetime distribution, and is compared with the corresponding Bayesian hybrid ASP in terms of the expected completion time. It is found that the proposed ASP tends to have a smaller expected completion time than the Bayesian hybrid ASP as the prior assessment of the reliability of a lot becomes optimistic, and vice versa. Tables of failure-free period Bayesian ASP's are also included.

  • In this paper, we develop two replacement-type reliability acceptance sampling plans(RASPs) for the gamma lifetime distribution assuming that the shape parameter is known. The two plans are respectively based upon failure-free period and hybrid life tests. We then compare the plans in terms of expected test time to reach a decision, power, etc. Computational results indicate among others that the failure-free period RASP has a shorter expected completion time than the corresponding hybrid RASP when the true scale parameter is 'large'. Finally, sensitivity analyses reveal that the effects of the uncertainties involved in the assumed shape parameter on the producer and the consumer risks are in favorable directions for both parties for both types of plans.

  • File sharing technology is the most popular methodology through which consumers gain music from online. However, music file sharing and free downloads of music have caused terrible recession of traditional music industry. The purpose of this paper is to develop the underlying theory for understanding the acceptance of music file sharing technology and empirically test our theoretical model. We develop extended TAM model and explore the influencing factors on the user acceptance of music file sharing technology. Our study delivers a better understanding on consumers’ attitudes towards music downloads. By understanding the fundamental characteristics of technology that makes consumers enthusiastic, traditional music industry will gain managerial implications.
