This paper is to investigate the potentials of the elastic seismic design of twisted high-rise steel diagrid frame buildings in the strong wind and moderate/low seismicity regions. First, the prototypes of high-rise steel diagrid frames with architectural plans that have a twist angle of 0 (regular-shaped), 1, and 2 degrees were designed to resist wind. Then, the effects of the twist angle on the estimated quantities and structural redundancies of the diagrid frames were examined. Second, the seismic performance of the wind-designed prototype buildings under a low seismicity was evaluated. The response spectrum analysis was conducted for the service level earthquake (SLE) having 43-year return period and the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) having 2475-year return period. The evaluation resulted that the twisted high-rise steel diagrid frames resisted the service level earthquake elastically and most of their diagrid members remained elastic even under the maximum considered earthquake.

In this study the progressive collapse potential of special concentrically braced frames were investigated using the nonlinear static. All of seven different brace types were considered. According to the pushdown analysis results, most braced frames designed according to current design codes satisfied the design guidelines for progressive collapse initiated by loss of a first story mid-column; however most model structures showed brittle failure mode. This was caused by buckling of columns after compressive braces buckled. Among the braced frames considered, the inverted-V type braced frames showed superior ductile behavior during progressive collapse.
Human frequently communicate non-linguistic information with gesture. So, we must develop efficient and fast gesture recognition algorithms for more natural human-computer interaction. However, it is difficult to recognize gesture automatically because human's body is three dimensional object with very complex structure. In this paper, we suggest a method which is able to detect key frames and frame changes, and to classify image sequence into some gesture groups. Gesture is classifiable according to moving part of body. First, we detect some frames that motion areas are changed abruptly and save those frames as key frames, and then use the frames to classify sequences. We symbolize each image of classified sequence using Principal Component Analysis(PCA) and clustering algorithm since it is better to use fewer components for representation of gestures. Symbols are used as the input symbols for the Hidden Markov Model(HMM) and recognized as a gesture with probability calculation.
In this paper, we propose an efficient method to detect shot changes in compressed MPEG video data by using reference features among video frames. The reference features among video frames imply the similarities among adjacent frames by prediction coded type of each frame. A shot change is detected if the similarity degrees of a frame and its adjacent frames are low. And the shot change detection algorithm is improved by using Fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering algorithm. The FCM clustering algorithm uses the shot change probabilities evaluated in the mask matching of reference ratios and difference measure values based on frame reference ratios.
In this paper. a key frame extraction algorithm for browsing and searching the summary of a video is proposed. Toward this end, important frames representing a shot are selected according to the correlations among frames. by using the Fourier descriptor which is useful for the shot boundary detection. To quantitatively evaluate the importance of selected frames. a new measure based on correlation coefficients of frames is proposed. If there are several frames with a same importance. another criteria is introduced to break the tie. by computing the partial moment of subframes including each candidate key frame so that the distortion rate is minimized Since a key frame extraction algorithm can be evaluated subjectively. the performance of the proposed algorithm has been verified by a statistical test. Experiments show that more than 20% improvement has been obtained by the proposed algorithm compared to existing methods.
The purpose of this article is to depict the relationship between the frames of leadership and the dependent variables such as job satisfaction, respect from subordinates, and promotion speed of boss. To attain this purpose, for types of multiple leadership frames, such as structural, human resources, political, and symbolic frames were surveyed through questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS.
The analysis and tests of thin-walled channel frames including nonlinear flexible or semi-rigid connection behaviour is presented. The semi-rigid connection behaviour is modelled using a mathematical approximation of the connection flexibility-moment relationship. Local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling of the member are included in the analysis. The full response of the frame, up to the collapse load, can be predicted. Experimental investigation was carried out on a series of simple double storey symmetrical frames with the purpose of verifying the accuracy and validity of the analysis. Agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is acceptable. The investigation also shows that connection flexibility and local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling can affect the behaviour and strength of thin-walled frames significantly. The results can also provide further insight into the advanced study of practical structures where interaction between flexible connections and phenomenon associated with thin-walled members are present.
Stability equations that evaluate the elastic critical axial load of columns in any type of construction with sidesway uninhibited, partially inhibited, and totally inhibited are derived in a classical manner. These equations can be applied to the stability of frames (unbraced, partially braced, and totally braced) with rigid, semirigid, and simple connections. The complete column classification and the corresponding three stability equations overcome the limitations and paradoxes of the well known alignment charts for braced and unbraced columns and frames. Simple criteria are presented that define the concept of partially braced columns and frames, as well as the minimum lateral bracing required by columns and frames to achieve non-sway buckling mode. Various examples are presented in detail that demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the complete set of stability equations.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of gravity-designed post tensioned (PT) flat plate frames with and without slab bottom reinforcement passing through the column. For the PT flat plate frames, the slab bottom reinforcement is often omitted since the requirement for the slab bottom reinforcement for PT flat plates is not clearly specified in ACI 318-08. This study evaluates the seismic performance of the model frames was evaluated by conducting nonlinear time history analysis. The seismic performance of PT flat plate frames is significantly improved by placing slab bottom reinforcement passing through the column.
The lateral sway of a multi-storey steel frame should be limited so as to ensure the comfort of the occupants and for the protection of mechanical and architectural systems. This paper investigates the applicability of Schueller's equation for predicting sway of rigid steel frames, and proposes a number of modifications to the equation so that it can produce results that are almost identical to those given by accurate Finite Element (FE) analysis. The behaviour of irregular steel frames has also been studied and proposals are made so that Schueller's Equation can also be used to predict sway of such frames.
