  • In light-frame wood construction, missing roof-sheathing fasteners can be a relatively common occurrence. This type of construction makes up the vast majority of the residential building stock in North America and thus their performance in high winds, including hurricanes, is of concern due to their sheer number. Construction quality issues are common in these types of structures primarily because the majority are conventionally constructed and unlike steel and reinforced concrete structures, inspection is minimal except in certain areas of the country. The concept of performance-based wind engineering (PBWE), a relatively new paradigm, relies on the assumption that building performance under wind loads can be accurately modeled. However, the discrepancy between what is designed (and modeled) and what is built (the as-built) may make application of PBWE to light-frame wood buildings quite difficult. It can be concluded from this study that construction quality must be controlled for realistic application of PBWE to light-frame wood buildings.

  • This study was performed to survey the exchange of frames on 83 persons. We investigated frame size, frame type, binocular prism effect etc. 80.4% among motives of frame-exchanges was a damage or corrosion. The type of frames was round-like 62.4% and 37.6% square-like. The size of frames was $49{\Box}18$ and vertical length 33mm on old-frames, $47{\Box}17$ and 31mm on new-frames. The scope of axis variation was average +3.20~3.80. According to estimation by the rule of RAL-RG 915, the inappropriate horizontal prism effect of new spectacles was 42.2%, more than 38.5% on old spectacles. The inappropriate vertical prism effect was 24.1% on old, 33.7% on new spectacles.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the airtightness and Air-Flow Performance for 7th house of small apartment houses adopted window frame-type natural ventilation. All window and living room door is provide with window frame-type natural ventilation, and there is provide with manual controller. As the object of measurement, the 6th type small apartment houses with area of $33m^2$ to $51m^2$ was selected. airtightness performance was measured at the front door using Blower door system. We measured ventilation rate per hour on 50Pa pressure different between inside and outside by the 1st to 6th cases. As a result, when the natural ventilation frame was closed, average amounts are shown as the ventilation rate per hour were 2.27ACH (CASE1). and the result is similar to general apartment house (1.65~4.28ACH). When the natural ventilation frame was open, average amounts are shown as the ventilation rate per hour were 5.87ACH (CASE6). In addition, that's a 3.6ACH increased more than CASE1.

  • In this study, seismic control performance of friction dampers installed in a reinforced concrete shear wall-moment frame system, of which main lateral force resisting system is a shear wall, is investigated. Three configurations of friction dampers are investigated. One is a diagonal brace type reinforcing the shear wall directly, another is a diagonal brace type reinforcing the moment frame without the shear wall, and the other one is a vertical boundary element type installed at both ends of the shear wall. In addition, various levels of the total friction force and its distribution methods are examined. Time history analysis considering material nonlinearity is conducted for seismic loads increased by the enhanced design code compared to the initial design loads, and energy dissipation, lateral loads and structural member damages are analyzed. As a result, the shear wall-reinforcing diagonal brace type with the total friction force of 30 % of the reference friction force gives the best performance on the whole, and the distribution methods of the friction force do not have remarkable difference in effects. Also, concentrated installation in adjacent four stories shows just a little compromised control performance compared to the entire story installation.

  • It researched several jointing-methods of frame consisting of a concrete-filled steel tubular column and H-shaped beam. These beam-to-column connections is parameters to following: columns of square shape pipe infilled with or without concrete, joints assembled two types of diaphragm, outside-type and through-type. And it is testing that cyclically lateral loadings used hydraulic ram. In testing. we'll be on purposed to estimate the hysteretic behavior, strength and stiffness, energy absorption capacity, deformation capacity and failure configuration of each specimen. It is concluded that the frame specimens with outside-type are more stable and exhibit more energy absorption capacity compared with the through-type, in column of filled with concrete.

  • This paper describes a gateway system based on a MOST network for integrating several different automotive network protocols. For transparent data communication among different protocols regardless of the high-level messages and the data format, Pseudo MOST frame was designed based on MOST frame and this pseudo MOST data frame is used as the data carrier. For automotive application, two types of gateways were developed, one board-type gateway and small-sized module-type gateways. One board-type gateway has ethernet port, video port and audio port. Meanwhile, small-sized module-type gateways are developed for video, audio, bluetooth and Flexray, respectively. Experiments with a network system using several small-sized module gateways verified efficient data communication among different network protocols and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed gateway system for automotive network integration.

  • Composite materials are used for main structural components of aircraft fuselage such as skin, stringer and frame to reduce weight. Failure and buckling analysis of the composite fuselage components have been done for structural design. The loads of MD90-30 are applied to each component. Various shapes of section such as I, Z and T-type are chosen as candidate composite stringer and frame. The analysis results of composite fuselage components are compared according to ply-angle and ply-number, and the section type. The numerical results shows that ply-angle and ply-number have important effects on failure caused by axial load for the frame are important design parameters of composite fuselage components. This study suggests several design tips for composite fuselage components.

  • The object of this paper is to evaluate on behavior the experimentally of beam-to-column joints for modular steel frame with the hollow structural steel section to LEB C-shape. Beam-to-column joints carried out test on the joint shape bracket-type and welded-type to consideration which the joints for modular steel frame was capacity, deformation and failure mode. Test of results, the beam-column joints decided to the lateral buckling strength in LEB C-shape regardless of joint-shape and joint failure. The strength & stiffness for joints increase as the bracket-thickness. The results from theory of lateral buckling are compared to the experimental results. The ratio of experimental results to theory value is $0.83{\sim}0.95$ in the case of bracket-type and welded-type of $0.87{\sim}0.9$, indicating an accurate and safe estimation.

  • Recently, damage to buildings due to earthquakes in Korea occurred mainly in school buildings and Piloti-type multi-family houses, highlighting the need for seismic retrofit for buildings of the same type. In the early days of the seismic retrofit project for school facilities, various patented methods using dampers as a ductile seismic retrofit method were applied without sufficient verification procedures. However, in 「School Facility Seismic Performance Evaluation and Retrofit Manual, 2021」, when the patented method is applied, it must be applied through a separate strict verification procedure, and instead, the strength/stiffness retrofit method was induced as a general method. In practice, when evaluating seismic performance for retrofit by infilled steel frame with brace, the analysis model is constructed by directly connecting only the steel brace to the existing RC member. However, if the frame is removed from the analysis model of the infilled steel frame with brace, the force reduction occurring on the existing RC member near the retrofit is considered to be very large, and this is judged to affect the review of whether to retrofit the foundation or not. Therefore, in this study, preliminary analysis with variables such as whether or not steel frame is taken into account and frame link method for the analysis model of RC school building retrofitted by infilled steel frame with brace and nonlinear analysis for actual 3-story school building was performed, and basic data for rational analysis model setting were presented by comparing preliminary analysis and pushover analysis results for each variable.
