Fast Key Frame Extraction in the Compressed Domain using Edge Histogram (에지히스토그램을 이용한 압축영역에서 고속키 프레임 추출기법)

  • As multimedia data and huge-Quantity video data having been increasingly and commonly used, the key frame algorithm, as one of the methods for manipulating these kinds of data, became an important matter and has been studied for many years. But the formerly proposed key frame extraction methods take much processing time or need complex calculations due to decoding processes. In order to solve these problems which the former methods have and to enhance the key frame extraction efficiency, a novel key frame extraction method in compressed domain is proposed in this paper. In this method we get an edge histogram for each I-frame in DCT domain and then extract the key frames by means of histogram difference metric. Experimental results show that our algorithm achieves fast processing speed and high accuracy.

Scene Change Detection using the Automated Threshold Estimation Algorithm

  • This paper presents a method for detecting scene changes in video sequences, in which the $chi^{2}$-test is modified by imposing weights according to NTSC standard. To automatically determine threshold values for scene change detection, the proposed method utilizes the frame differences that are obtained by the weighted $chi^{2}$-test. In the first step, the mean and the standard deviation of the difference values are calculated, and then, we subtract the mean difference value from each difference value. In the next step, the same process is performed on the remained difference values, mean-subtracted frame differences, until the stopping criterion is satisfied. Finally, the threshold value for scene change detection is determined by the proposed automatic threshold estimation algorithm. The proposed method is tested on various video sources and, in the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed method is reliably estimates the thresholds and detects scene changes.

  • Purpose: The importance of building airtightness is increased as the demand and expectation of building energy efficiency is growing. Previous research only focused on airtightness of building openings only to improve building airtightness. However, the analysis of difference of airtightness performance according to the characteristic of building structure has not been performed. Therefore, this study analyzed the difference of airtightness performance according to building structural characteristics in a number of ways. Method: Airtightness that are classified as rigid-frame type or wall type are measured and analyzed the difference of airtightness performance between rigid frame type apartments and wall type apartments. This study calculated the heating energy demand and quantitatively analysis using ISO 13790. Futhermore, this study compared research trend of domestic airtightness performance with airtightness standards of the developed countries based on the field measurement. Result: Airtight performance of wall type is better than rigid frame type in terms of energy saving. The difference of heating energy demand between wall type and rigid frame type was $8.14kWh/m^2yr$.

Estimation of Drone Velocity with Sum of Absolute Difference between Multiple Frames (다중 프레임의 SAD를 이용한 드론 속도 측정)

  • Drones are highly utilized because they can efficiently acquire long-distance videos. In drone operation, the speed, which is the magnitude of the velocity, can be set, but the moving direction cannot be set, so accurate information about the drone's movement should be estimated. In this paper, we estimate the velocity of the drone moving at a constant speed and direction. In order to estimate the drone's velocity, the displacement of the target frame to minimize the sum of absolute difference (SAD) of the reference frame and the target frame is obtained. The ground truth of the drone's velocity is calculated using the position of a certain matching point over all frames. In the experiments, a video was obtained from the drone moving at a constant speed at a height of 150 meters. The root mean squared error (RMSE) of the estimated velocities in x and y directions and the RMSE of the speed were obtained showing the reliability of the proposed method.

  • Transposed scan is an innovation that paves the road to ultra-slim CRTs with deflection angles up to 135$^{\circ}C$ We discuss the integration of video transposition with the other video processing functions in the television set. An in-place transposition algorithm which minimizes the amount of frame memory is proposed as a low-cost solution for transposed scan conversion. The difference in visual perception of transposed scan and normal scan depends on the frame rate and the line density of the video format. We found that for high frame rates and high line densities, no difference was perceived for both scan modes.

  • Design sensitivity analysis of a vehicle system is an essential tool for design optimization and trade-off studies. Most optimization algorithms require the derivatives of cost and constraint function with respect to design in order to calculate the next improved design. This paper presents an efficient algorithm application for the design sensitivity analysis, using the direct differentiation method. A mounting area of suspension that welded on chassis frame is analyzed to show the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.   • To investigate opportunities for wood frame housing and to activate wood frame house construction, trends of construction activities. preference about housing, and building codes related to wood frame housing were discussed. And two models of wood frame house were developed and construction cost was analyzed to compare with comparative masonry houses. The results obtained were as follows: 1. While 77.8% of people prefer single-family houses, majority of people(74.9%), ironically, possess multi-family houses such as apartments Wood work cost was ratio of 4% of total building cost. while wood material cost accounted merely for 11 % out of total building material cost. 2. Building code was not major barrier to residential house at height under 13m. The building code regulated major structural member and family boder wall of multi-family house to be built with fire retardant material. 3. The proper wood frame house was analyzed of town house or villa type locating in suburban of big city with hot ondol system for the upper middle class. 4 There was no difference in construction cost between western style wood frame house and comparable masonry house, but construction cost for Korean style wood frame house is 27% higher than that of comparable masonry house. It was necessary to reduce materials and cost down by prefabrication technique for both style of wood frame house.

Analysis of Mechanical Properties in Steel Frame with Ductile Connections

  • Steel frames with ductile connections have good seismic performance under strong earthquake, they are now popular for high seismic design. In order to simplify the process of numerical analysis of the steel frames with ductile connections, simplified connection models are introduced, two types of springs are placed in the simplified connection model, which can simulate deformation of the panel zone and members. 6-story-3-bay steel frames with ductile connections are simplified and carried out modal analysis, fundamental periods of the frames predicted by finite-element analysis for simplified steel frame models were compared to the results for actual frame models. 2-story steel frame with reduced beam section connections is simplified and carried out pseudo-static analysis, hysteretic curves and skeleton curves of the frame obtained by finite-element analysis for simplified steel frame model are compared to test results. The comparison show that the difference between them is small, it is reliable and effective to predict mechanical properties of the steel frame with ductile connection by finite-element analysis of simplified steel frame model.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive background image generation method based on the frame difference for traffic monitoring. The performance of the conventional method is limited when there are more vehicles due to traffic Jam. To improve on this, we use frame differencing to separate vehicles from background in frame differencing, we adopt selective approach by using part of the image not considered as vehicle fer extraction of background. The proposed method generates background more efficiently than conventional methods even in the presence of heavy traffic.

  • In this paper, we proposed several scene analysis algorithms. These algorithms using image difference and histogram operate on the sequence of DC coefficient which is extracted from Motion JPEG or MPEG without full-frame decompression. Since DC sequence has the most information of full frame while it has reduced data. Experimental results show less than 1/64 of full frame analysing complexity and exactly analyze scene changes and extract key frames.
