  • Content-based video copy detection is a complementary approach to watermarking. As opposed to watermarking, which relies on inserting a distinct pattern into the video stream, video copy detection techniques match content-based signatures to detect copies of video. Existing typical content-based copy detection schemes have relied on image matching which is based on key frame detection. This paper proposes a motion directional histogram, which is quantized and accumulated the direction of motion, for video copy detection. The video clip is represented by a motion directional histogram as a 1-dimensional graph. This method is suitable for real time indexing and counting the TV CF verification that is high motion video clips.

  • Video retrieval and indexing are performed by comparing feature similarities between key frames in shot after detecting a scene change and extracting key frames from the shot. Typical image features such as color, shape, and texture are used in content-based video and image retrieval. Many approaches for integrating these features have been studied. However, the issue of these approaches is how to appropriately assign weighting of key frame features at query time. Therefore, we propose a new video retrieval method using adaptively weighted image features. We performed computer simulations in test databases which consist of various kinds of key frames. The experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than previous works in respect to several performance evaluations such as precision vs. recall, retrieval efficiency, and ranking measure.

  • For content-based video indexing and retrieval, it is necessary to segment video data into video shots and then select key frames or representative frames for each shot. However, it is very difficult to select key frames automatically because the task of selecting meaningful frames is quite subjective. In this paper, we propose a new approach in selecting key frames based on visual contents such as region information and their temporal variations in the shot. First of all, we classify video shots into panning shots, zooming shots, tilting shots or no camera motion shots by detecting camera motion information in video shots. Then, in each category, we apply appropriate fuzzy rules to select key frames based on meaningful content in frame. Finally, we control the number of key frames in the selection process by adjusting the degree of detail in representing video shots.

  • Recently, the value of video as an important data of medical information technology is increasing due to the feature of rich clinical information. On the other hand, video is also required to be de-identified as a medical image, but the existing methods are mainly specialized in the stereotyped data and still images, which makes it difficult to apply the existing methods to the video data. In this paper, we propose an automated system to index candidate elements of personal identification information on a frame basis to solve this problem. The proposed system performs indexing process using text and person detection after preprocessing by scene segmentation and color knowledge based method. The generated index information is provided as metadata according to the purpose of use. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, the indexing speed was measured using prototype implementation and real surgical video. As a result, the work speed was more than twice as fast as the playing time of the input video, and it was confirmed that the decision making was possible through the case of the production of surgical education contents.

Abstract There is a rapid increase in the use of digital video information in recent years, it becomes more important to manage multimedia databases efficiently. There is a big concern about video indexing because users require content-based image retrieval. In this paper, we first propose query-by-image system environment which allows to retrieve similar images from the chosen representative frames or images from the image databases. This algorithm considers not only the discretized color histogram but also the proposed directional information called CS & GS method. Finally, we designe another query environment using query-by-face. In this system , user selects a people in the representative frame browser and then system extracts a face region from that frame. After that system retrieves similar representative frames using 2 features, edge information and biorthogonal wavelet transform.

  • In this paper, it is proposed that an attitude and position estimation algorithm based on a stereo camera system for a helmet tracker. Stereo camera system consists of two CCD camera, a helmet, infrared LEDs and a frame grabber. Fifteen infrared LEDs are feature points which are used to determine the attitude and position of the helmet. These features are arranged in triangle pattern with different distance on the helmet. Vision-based the attitude and position algorithm consists of feature segmentation, projective reconstruction, model indexing and attitude estimation. In this paper, the attitude estimation algorithm using UQ (Unit Quaternion) is proposed. The UQ guarantee that the rotation matrix is a unitary matrix. The performance of presented algorithm is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • For an efficient indexing and retrieval of digital video data, research on video caption extraction and recognition is required. This paper proposes methods for extracting artificial captions from video data and enhancing their image quality for an accurate Hangul and English character recognition. In the proposed methods, we first find locations of beginning and ending frames of the same caption contents and combine those multiple frames in each group by logical operation to remove background noises. During this process an evaluation is performed for detecting the integrated results with different caption images. After the multiple video frames are integrated, four different image enhancement techniques are applied to the image: resolution enhancement, contrast enhancement, stroke-based binarization, and morphological smoothing operations. By applying these operations to the video frames we can even improve the image quality of phonemes with complex strokes. Finding the beginning and ending locations of the frames with the same caption contents can be effectively used for the digital video indexing and browsing. We have tested the proposed methods with the video caption images containing both Hangul and English characters from cinema, and obtained the improved results of the character recognition.

  • People are experiencing severe problems in temporal navigation as time-based contents and platforms become more popular Relatively limited research, however, has been conducted on temporal navigation compared to that on spatial navigation. This research aims to identify efficient temporal navigation aids for time-based contents. It proposes Time Navigator, a new temporal navigation system based on the episodic indexing theory, and evaluates its efficiency through two experiments with a computer-based simulator for digital TV The video contents of digital TV was focused on because it is one of the most representative time-based contents and platforms. Our results indicate that Time Navigator helps people navigate time -based contents more effectively. Its effects increase as the contents include more narratives.

  • To ensure access to rapidly growing video collection, video indexing is becoming more and more important. In this paper, video ontology system for retrieving a video data based on a scene unit is proposed. The proposed system creates a semantic scene as a basic unit of video retrieval, and limits a domain of retrieval through a subject of that scene. The content of semantic scene is defined using the relationship between object and event included in the key frame of shots. The semantic gap between the low level feature and the high level feature is solved through the scene ontology to ensure the semantic-based retrieval.
