A treatment of wave breaking is included in the extended Boussinesq equations of Nwogu. A spatially distributed source function and sponge layers are used to reduce the reflected waves in the computa¬tional domain. The model uses fourth-order Adams predictor-corrector method to advance in time, and discretizes first-order spatial derivatives to fourth-order accuracy, and thus reducing all truncation errors to a level smaller than the dispersive terms. The generated wave fields are found to be good and the corresponding wave heights are very close to their target values. For the tests of wave breaking, although agreement is considered to be reasonable, wave heights in the inner surf zone are over-predicted. This indicates the breaking parameters in the model should be adjusted.
The COVID-19 curve seesawed and reached the fourth pandemic in July 2021. Since the first three waves, the focus has been on achieving herd immunity through vaccination while a lot of manpower is used for quarantine. However, we have not been able to prevent the fourth wave. The causes are thought to be related to people who doubt the safety of the vaccine and refuse it or violate quarantine guidelines such as social distancing. This study examined guidelines for preventing and controlling COVID-19, the accuracy of vaccination-related information, and described quarantine measures including for those who completed vaccination. In conclusion, prevention and vaccination are the most effective countermeasures against COVID-19. We recommend people vaccination with self-quarantine. Also, it is necessary to make large investments to protect and support nurses in future pandemics.

The governing partial differential equations of a helical spring with a circular section were derived from Frenet formulas and Timoshenko beam theory. These were solved to give the dispersion relationship between wave number and frequency along with wave form. Wave motions of helical springs are categorized by 4 regimes. In the first regime, the lower frequency area, the torsional and extensional waves of the spring are predominant and two waves are composite wave motions involving lateral motion of the coils and rotation of the coils about a horizontal axis. All waves are propagating in the second regime. The wave of the extensional motion of the spring and one wave of transverse motion of a wire change from travelling waves to near field waves in the third regime. Both waves excited by both axial and transverse motion are predominant in the fourth regime.

This paper presents a novel fourth harmonic mixer with new structure. The traditional 3-ports fourth harmonic mixer and the novel fourth harmonic mixer are designed by ADS, HFSS and CST simulator. The mixers have been fabricated and tested. The size of the traditional 3-ports fourth harmonic mixer is $12{\times}15$ mm, and the best conversion loss is 18.7 dB according to the measurement. Since the traditional 3-port mixer size is too large to be ranked, we design a novel fourth harmonic mixer for imaging system. The width of the mixing module in the novel fourth harmonic mixer is only 3.65 mm, and this size is fully capable to meet the mixer unit space which is not greater than 5 mm. The simulation result shows that the mixer has good performance, and the experiment result shows that the best conversion loss of the novel fourth harmonic mixer is 16.3 dB at RF signal of 91.3 GHz.

Numerical convergence and stability of TVD schemes have been applied in the FUNWAVE-TVD model were compared. The fourth order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using minmod limiter suggested by Yamamoto and Daiguji (1993), the fourth order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using van-Leer limiter suggested by Erduran et al. (2005) and the second order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using van-Leer limiter in Zhou et al. (2001) were compared. Comparisons of the numerical scheme were conducted with experimental data of Vincent and Briggs irregular wave experiments. In comparison with the fourth order accurate scheme using van-Leer limiter, the fourth order accurate scheme using minmod limiter is less dissipative but required lower CFL condition for stable numerical solution. On the other hand, the scheme using van-Leer limiter required smaller resolution spatial grid due to numerical dissipation, but relatively higher CFL condition can be used compared to the scheme using minmod limiter. In the breaking wave experiments which were conducted using high resolution spatial grid to reduce numerical dissipation, the characteristic of the schemes can be clearly observed. Numerical instabilities and blow-up of the numerical solutions were found in the irregular wave breaking simulation with the scheme using minmod limiter. However, the simulation can be completed with the scheme using van-Leer limiter, but required low CFL condition. Good agreements with the observed data were also observed in the results using van-Leer limiter.
Purpose: Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic began, new variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have emerged, and distinct epidemic waves of COVID-19 have occurred for an extended period. This study aimed to analyze the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of children with COVID-19 from the third wave to the middle of the fourth epidemic wave in Korea. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of hospitalized patients aged ≤18 years with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19. The study periods were divided into the third wave (from November 13, 2020 to July 6, 2021) and the fourth wave (from July 7 to October 31, 2021). Results: Ninety-three patients were included in the analysis (33 in the third and 60 in the fourth waves). Compared with the third wave, the median age of patients was significantly older during the fourth wave (6.7 vs. 2.8 years, P=0.014). Household contacts was reported in 60.2% of total patients, similar in both periods (69.7 vs. 55.0%, P=0.190). Eighty-one (87.1%) had symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection. Among these, 10 (12.3%) had no respiratory symptoms. Anosmia or ageusia were more commonly observed in the fourth epidemic wave (10.7 vs. 34.0%, P=0.032). Most respiratory illness were upper respiratory tract infections (94.4%, 67/71), 4 had pneumonia. The median cycle threshold values (detection threshold, 40) for RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and envelope (E) genes of SARS-CoV-2 were 21.3 and 19.3, respectively. There was no significant difference in viral load during 2 epidemic waves. Conclusions: There were different characteristics during the two epidemic waves of COVID-19.

In this paper, a new method to estimate stress status in metal nondestructively by using nonlinear dependency of sound speed on stress is proposed. For the purpose, equivalent nonlinear elastic constants up to fourth-order are introduced and a new characteristic parameter given as a function of these constants is presented. And a concrete system to measure the characteristic parameter is constructed by electromagnetic pumping wave and ultrasonic probing wave system. Some experimental results for Al alloy showed that the estimation of stress status in metal is possible by the proposed method.
Wave propagation in a three-dimensional (3D) fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) is studied based on velocity potential theory. The governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving free surface is solved using the indirect desingularized boundary integral equation method (DBIEM). The fourth-order predictor-corrector Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme (ABM4) and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method are used for the time-stepping integration of the free surface boundary conditions. A smoothing algorithm, B-spline, is applied to eliminate the possible saw-tooth instabilities. The artificial wave speed employed in MTF (multi-transmitting formula) approach is investigated for fully nonlinear wave problem. The numerical results from incorporating the damping zone (DZ), MTF and MTF coupled DZ (MTF+DZ) methods as radiation condition are compared with analytical solution. An effective MTF+DZ method is finally adopted to simulate the 3D linear wave, second-order wave and irregular wave propagation. It is shown that the MTF+DZ method can be used for simulating fully nonlinear wave propagation very efficiently.

We carry out a numerical calculation to understand the nonlinear wave deformation around breakwaters using the Boussinesq equation, which is weakly nonlinear and weakly dispersive shallow water equation. A numerical method based on a finite element scheme and fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm is employed to investigate the diffraction of incident waves by the breakwater. As a computational model, two-dimensional wave flume is treated. The breakwaters is perpendicular to the side wall of a channel. From the numerical results, the wave deformations according to the change of the length and the thickness of breakwaters are investigated. We also investigate the effect of the nonlinearity by comparing the results with the linear solutions.
