알지오매스(AlgeoMath)에 담긴 미래 수학교육의 방향 탐색 (Exploring the future direction of Math Education in AlgeoMath)

  • The Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity(KOFAC) developed AlgeoMath, a dynamic geometry software, with support from the Ministry of Education and 17 municipal and provincial education offices. Starting Nov. 7, 2018, AlgeoMath can be used for free by anyone. This study summarizes various discussions on the future direction of math education. The four aspects of the curriculum, textbook, teaching and learning, and assessment were explored on how AlgeoMath could contribute in realizing the future direction of math education. We confirmed that AlgeoMath can faithfully fulfill its role as a tool for changing math education, and we looked at what should be emphasized more and what should be complemented.

외국의 건강증진기금 운영실태 고찰 및 시사점 (The Review of the Health Promotion Foundation and Implication for Korea)

  • Objectives: The study aimed at reviewing the organizational values, structures, and activities of the health promotion foundation model as a recently recommended by the World Health Organization, and exploring adequate suggestions to administer the funds in Korea. Methods: The study materials were collected from web-sites and visiting, the ThaiHealth, VicHealth, Healthway, and Health Promotion Switzerland were reviewed as the representative cases of health promotion foundation model. Results: According to the review, the health promotion foundation established based on relevant legal acts had the comprehensive and professional organizational structure with boards and committees as governing and supporting bodies. The foundations had clearly defined vision, mission, and purpose, and pursuit health promotion purpose, independent and professional decision making process, strategies and priorities to initiate broad health promotion activities, balanced funds distribution to various areas and sectors, and networking and collaborating with partners. Conclusions: Health promotion foundation is a recommendable model to lead more effective and efficient health promotion activities and to collaborate with other sectors or other countries. Expanded usages of health promotion fund into the diverse health promotion settings such as communities, work places and schools and health activities including sponsorships as well as health promotion programs need to be considered.

Simulation of monopile-wheel hybrid foundations under eccentric lateral load in sand-over-clay

  • The monopile-friction wheel hybrid foundation is an innovative solution for offshore structures which are mainly subjected to large lateral eccentric load induced by winds, waves, and currents during their service life. This paper presents an extensive numerical analysis to investigate the lateral load and moment bearing performances of hybrid foundation, considering various potential influencing factors in sand-overlaying-clay soil deposits, with the complex lateral loads being simplified into a resultant lateral load acting at a certain height above the mudline. Finite element models are generated and validated against experimental data where very good agreements are obtained. The failure mechanisms of hybrid foundations under lateral loading are illustrated to demonstrate the effect of the friction wheel in the hybrid system. Parametric study shows that the load bearing performances of the hybrid foundation is significantly dependent of wheel diameter, pile embedment depth, internal friction angle of sand, loading eccentricity (distance from the load application point to the ground level), and the thickness of upper sandy layer. Simplified empirical formulae is proposed based on the numerical results to predict the corresponding lateral load and moment bearing capacities of the hybrid foundation for design application.

A Study on the Linkage Model Between Institutions Related to Lifelong Education for People with Developmental Disabilities Based on the K-PACE Center of Daegu University: A Perspective on the Whole Life Cycle for People with Developmental Disabilities

  • The purpose of this study was to form a linked model in which local institutions related to lifelong education for the disabled can cooperate based on the Daegu University K-PACE Center. The contents of the study started with recognizing the problem that the adult-centered lifelong education support system does not effectively cope with these factors, even though the independent life of people with developmental disabilities is a major factor determining the quality of life. Regarding this problem recognition, this study primarily emphasized the view that educational support for independent life of people with developmental disabilities should establish the context of the school foundation. The context of the school foundation is established for lifelong education centered on adulthood for people with developmental disabilities because the curriculum is embodied through the standards of subject matter education. In this regard, the Daegu University K-PACE Center, which established a curriculum that supports the independent life of people with developmental disabilities in terms of linking higher and lifelong education, actually reflects the context of the school foundation. As a result, this study prepared a strategy that could be considered as a transition to advance the curriculum organized by the Daegu University K-PACE Center, and the strategy was secondarily reflected as a procedure that could be linked to local lifelong education-related institutions for the disabled. Finally, this study presented a form of transition in which people with developmental disabilities can access the curriculum of lifelong education through the connection of local lifelong education-related institutions for the disabled, centering on the entire life of adulthood.

우리나라 수학교육의 문제점 진단을 위한 조사 연구 (A Survey Research to Diagnose the Problems of Mathematics Education ID Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose the problems of mathematics education in Korea by conducting an in-depth analysis of international comparative studies, a Delphi method, and a survey. Further analysis of TIMSS and PISA results also reveals several negative aspects of mathematics education practice in Korea. The mathematics education experts' opinions collected by Delphi method were classified into 12 categories: private education and test-driven education, curriculum and textbooks, lessons, evaluation, teacher, learner, teaching aid and facilities. affective aspects of mathematics, discrepancy between a theory and a practice, preservice/inservice teacher education and teacher employment test, education policy, and overall. Another survey was conducted to focus more on the development of curriculum which is a pending issue. Considering the fact that mathematics education should contribute to improve practical aspect as well as elaborate theoretical aspect, this study lays a foundation of improvement of mathematics education in Korea.

미국 디자인대학의 Foundation과정에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Foundation Corse of Design Schools in USA)

  • As essential element of designers, foundation studies program helps student deal with the individual expression of imagination and variety of correspondence for solving design problem through the understanding of 2-D, 3-D basic design elements, principals, structures. Liberal art and foundation studio courses provides embodiment and settlement of design principal through the foundation studies expand to experiences systematically and deeply. After the Industrialization, foundation studies have developed from Bauhaus in German, the courses have been progressing and systematizing with the demand of time in United States. Growth of Industrialization, expanded design areas departmentalized to various of fields, then the segmentation of foundation courses tend to important than basic design courses. The introduction of information era, the appearance of computer is placed as a tool of design development and added to applied basic courses. This study is intended to know how to change the leading foundation courses in United State due to the revitalization of industrialization and information through the research and analyse to foundation design education curriculums. As a result, most of design school in United States provide drawing, 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D courses included 3-D design element as a basic studies and provide to students introduction to fundamental principal of design concept and communication in both theoretical and applied form. Also though the history, literature, critic, research and survey courses provide students to organize fundamental of systematical logic and understanding design system.

BOUNDS ON THE GROWTH RATE FOR THE KUO PROBLEM

  • We consider Kuo problem of hydrodynamic stability which deals with incompressible, inviscid, parallel shear flows in the 𝛽-plane. For this problem, we derived instability region without any approximations and which intersects with Howard semi-circle region under certain condition. Also, we derived upper bound for growth rate and amplification factor of an unstable mode and proved Howard's conjecture.

  • We consider inviscid, incompressible homogeneous shear flows of variable cross section known as extended Rayleigh problem. For this extended Rayleigh problem, we derived instability region which intersect with semi-circle instability region under some condition. Also we derived condition for stability, upper bound for amplification factor and growth rate of an unstable mode.

  • We consider incompressible, inviscid, stratified shear flows in β plane. First, we obtained an unbounded instability region intersect with semi-ellipse region. Second, we obtained a bounded instability regions depending on Coriolis, stratification parameters and basic velocity profile. Third, we obtained a criterion for wave stability. This has been illustrated with standard examples. Also, we obtained upper bound for growth rate.

온라인 담배 마케팅 분석을 통한 담배규제정책의 향후 과제 : 온라인 담배 판매 및 광고를 중심으로 (Analysis on online marketing of tobacco product in Korea: current issues and future directions for tobacco control)

  • Objectives: Tobacco marketing encourages smoking initiation of non-smokers, especially adolescents, and it hinders quit intention of those who smoke or who attempt to quit smoking. Article 13 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control(WHO FCTC) requests a comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship(TAPS). Ratified the Convention in 2005, Korea has partially implemented the provisions. However, online marketing regulations are still insufficient. Methods: Based on relevant national and international regulations, this research designed monitoring mechanism for online tobacco marketing and studied 1,404 websites to identify current situation of online sales and advertisement of tobacco in Korea. Results: This study found that online trade of tobacco products are overtly conducted, while tobacco advertising with flavoring and misleading descriptors are also prevalent. Also, online tobacco marketing facilitate adolescents' access to tobacco product and that advertising and promotion activities lead to tobacco purchase without difficulties. Conclusions: Fundamental solution to prevent online tobacco advertisement and promotion is banning online sales of tobacco and conducting a regular monitoring for compliance. Korean government should consider establishing an official surveillance system for online tobacco advertisement, followed by a comprehensive ban on TAPS to fulfill its obligation as a Party to the FCTC.
