  • Using simulation, we compare the perturbation analysis estimate and the forward difference estimate for the first and second derivatives of performance measures in a Markov renewal process. We find the perturbation analysis estimate has much les mean squared error than the traditional forward difference estimate.

  • A fast decoupled algorithm for time domain simulation of power electronics circuits is presented. The circuits can be arbitrarily configured and can incorporate feedback amplifier circuits. This simulation algorithm is performed for the input series output parallel connected 2 switch forward converter. Steady state and large signal transient responses due to a step load change are simulated. The simulation results are verified through experiments.

  • This paper present a new technique for doing realistic computer animation. The method is based on forward dynamic simulation and nonlinear problem solving (parameter optimization) technique. Objects are modelled physically and simulated faithfully while satisfying kinematic and geometric constraints. This forward dynamic simulation gives us very realistic motions especially for non-voluntary motions. Then we extend simulation technique to do animation using parameter optimization. The basic idea is to add motion control over the entire animation. The motion control is finding optimal solutions while satisfying user's animation goals. We provide two different animation technique; one is for rigid body without joint actuators and the other is for rigid body with linear joint actuators. To achieve motion control, we convert single simulation to single nonliner function evaluation while either setting initial conditions as variables for the function or allocating control variables in terms of time. This method is presented with two animation examples: dice-magic and human stand-up.

  • In this study, the numerical and dynamic simulation on staging problem including forward jet mechanism is conducted. The forward jet plays a vital role in staging, which jets out from aftbody. This staging environment needs full dynamic characteristics study and flow analysis for securing staging safety. Present study performs dynamic simulation of forebody and aftbody with flow analysis using the Chimera grid scheme which is usually used for moving body simulations. As a result, the separation mechanism using forward jet well work in staging for given initial conditions and reverse thrust, chamber pressure variation from experiments. Furthermore, it is found that the technique using forward jets for staging is excellent for securing the separation safety.

  • This paper focuses on computational contractual distinctions as an explanation for the spread between a forward contract and a similar futures contract which is derived and investigated. We evaluate this spread by constructing a time series model, which was established based on copula functions, and also show that the forward-futures spread is more significant for long maturity.

  • This paper is concerned with the family of parts that generally feature a central hub with radial protrusions. Radial Extrusion is usually used in order to produce complex parts, which is combined with upsetting and/or forward and backward extrusion. Typical parts that fall into this category include cross pieces for universal joints, key-shaft type parts, tube fittings, and differential gears. In this paper, the forming characteristics of radial extrusion combined with forward extrusion is investigated by comparing the punch and mandrel loads. The design factors during radial extrusion combined with forward extrusion are applied to the simulation to see how much those factors have effect on the forming loads. The rigid-plastic FEM is applied to the simulation.

  • Accurate electroencephalography (EEG) forward calculation is of importance for the accurate estimation of neuronal electrical sources. Conventional studies concerning the EEG forward problems have investigated various factors influencing the forward solution accuracy, e.g. tissue conductivity values in head compartments, anisotropic conductivity distribution of a head model, tessellation patterns of boundary element models, the number of elements used for boundary/finite element method (BEM/FEM), and so on. In the present paper, we investigated the influence of modeling errors in the boundary element volume conductor models upon the accuracy of the EEG forward solutions. From our simulation results, we could confirm that accurate construction of boundary element models is one of the key factors in obtaining accurate EEG forward solutions from BEM. Among three boundaries (scalp, outer skull, and inner skull boundary), the solution errors originated from the modeling error in the scalp boundary were most significant. We found that the nonuniform error distribution on the scalp surface is closely related to the electrode configuration and the error distributions on the outer and inner skull boundaries have statistically meaningful similarity to the curvature distributions of the boundary surfaces. Our simulation results also demonstrated that the accumulation of small modeling errors could lead to considerable errors in the EEG source localization. It is expected that our finding can be a useful reference in generating boundary element head models.

  • This paper presents a large signal analysis of ring-type oscillators with feed forward and negative skewed delay scheme. The analysis yields the frequency increase factor due to two schemes. The large signal analysis is needed, because small signal model is limited to the initial stage of oscillation[1]. For verification of the frequency increase factor, simulation were done under the same conditions for the two different types of ring oscillators, i.e., with and without feed forward and negative skewed delay scheme. Simulation results are in good agreement with predictions based on analysis.
