This paper presents the two-switch interleaved active clamp forward converter, which is mainly composed of two active clamp forward converters. Only two switches are required, and each one is the auxiliary switch for the other. So, the circuit complexity and cost are reduced and control is more simple. An additional resonant inductance is employed to achieve ZVS(Zero-Voltage-Switching) during the dead times. Interleaved output inductor currents diminish the voltage and current ripple. Accordingly, the smaller output filter and capacitors lower the converter volume. This research proposed the Two-switch interleaved Active Clamp Forward Converter characteristic. The principle of operation, feature and design considerations is illustrated and the validity of verified through the experiment with a 160[W] based experimental circuit.

The forward convener is one of power supplies used widely. This paper presents parameter tuning methods to obtain optimal circuit element values for the forward converter to minimize the output voltage variation under various load changing environments. The conventional method using the concept of the phase margin is extended to have optimal phase margin that gives slightly improved performance in the output voltage response. For this, the phase margin becomes the tuning parameter and is optimized with the genetic algorithm. Next, the circuit element values are directly chosen as the tuning parameters and also optimized using the genetic algorithm to have very improved performance in the output voltage control of the forward converter.
The Clamp Mode(CM) Forward Zero Voltage Switching Multi Resonant Converter(ZVS-MRC) with self-driven synchronous rectifier in studied. The loss at the synchronous rectification stage of the converter is analyzed using MOSFET linear model and is compared with the loss at the conventional schottky diode rectification stage of the converter. From the results of the analysis, it is known that the use of MOSFETs as a synchronous rectifier reduces the loss at the rectification stage over the whole load range comparing the use of schottky diodes as a conventional rectifier in the converter. In order to verify the validity of the analysis, we have built a 33W(3.3V/10A) CM Forward ZVS-MRC with self-driven synchronous rectifier, in which switching frequency is 1MHz, and tested. From the experimental results, it is known that the synchronous rectification achieved about 1W improvement in the loss at the rectification stage and about 3% in the efficiency at the converter as compared with the conventional schottky diode rectification.

This study develops a digital control scheme with power factor correction for a front-end converter in an electric vehicle battery charger. The front-end converter acts as the boost-type switching-mode rectifier. The converter assumes the two roles of the battery charger, which include power factor control and robust charging performance. The proposed control scheme consists of a charging control algorithm and a grid current control algorithm. The scheme aims to obtain unity input power factor and robust performance. Based on the linear average model of the converter, a constant-current constant-voltage charging control algorithm that passes through only one proportional-integral controller and a current feed-forward path is proposed. In the current control algorithm, we utilized a second band pass filter, a single-phase phase-locked loop technique, and a duty-ratio feed-forward term to control the grid current to be in phase with the grid voltage and achieve pure sinusoidal waveform. Simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, both simulations and experiments.

This paper presents an analysis method of a forward converter, using both the finite element method considering the external circuit and a state variables equation. The converter operates at 50kHz and its one period is divided into two modes for the simplicity of the analysis. In the first mode, the switching transistor turns on and an input power is transferred into the load by the electromagnetic conversion action of a ferrite transformer. In the second mode, the switching transistor turns off and the stored energy in an inductor is delivered to the load, and the transformer core is demagnetized by the reset winding current. In this paper, time-stepping finite element method taking into account the on-state electrical circuit of the converter in used to analyze both the electrical circuit and electromagnetic field of the magnetic device during the first mode and the demagnetization period of the transformer core. Then a state variables equation for the circuit which the inductor current flows is constituted and solved during the second mode. As a result, the simulation results have been good agreement with the results obtained form experiment.
The MRC minimizes a parasitic oscillation using the resonant tank circuit absorbed parasitic reactances existing in a converter circuit. So the converter is capable of operating at a high switching and also reducing the losses. But the resonant voltage stress across a resonant switch is 4-5 times a input voltage. This high voltage stress increases the conduction loss in MOSFET. In this paper, the CM forward MRC with synchronous rectifier and AT forward MRC are compared about efficiency and semiconductor stress. For analysis, we have built a 50W CM forward MRC and a 50W AT forward MRC. in which the input voltage is 48V, output voltage is 5V, each other. The measured voltage stress is about 170V of 2.9 times the input voltage in the AT Forward MRC, about 106V of 1.8 times the input voltage in CM forward MRC, and the efficiency is 81.05% in AT Forward MRC, 83.61% in CM forward MRC.
In this paper, we report the experimental results of the Forward-flyback DC-DC converter with current doubler and synchronous rectifier. The experimental converter, that has a output voltage 1.8V, output current 25A, maximum power of 45W, switching frequency of 290kHz and input voltage range of 36-75V, has been successfully implemented. As a result, in the entire voltage range the measured full load efficiency was above 82%, and the output voltage was regulated at 1.8V within ${\pm}$3% tolerance.

In this paper, we present an analytical method that provides fast and efficient evaluation of the conversion efficiency for switching power supplies. In the proposed method, the conduction losses are evaluated by calculating the effective values of the ideal current waveform first and incorporating them into an exact equivalent circuit model of the switching power supply that includes all the parasitic resistances of the circuit components. While the winding losses and core losses are accurately accounted for the magnetic components, the skin and proximity effects are assumed to be negligible in order to simplify the analysis. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are verified with experiments on a prototype active-clamped forward converter with synchronous rectification. An excellent correlation between the experiments and theories are obtained for the input voltages of 36-75 V with 4-6 MOSFETs employed for the synchronous rectification.
This paper analyzes a symmetric active cell balancer for a battery management system. The considered cell balancer uses a forward converter in which the circuit structure is symmetric. This cell-balancing method uses fewer switches and is simpler than the previously proposed active cell-balancing circuits. Active power switches of this cell-balancing circuit operate simultaneously with the same pulse width modulation signals. Therefore, this cell-balancing circuit requires less time to be balanced than a previous bidirectional-forward-converter-based cell balancer. This paper analyzes the operational principles and modes of this cell balancer with computer-based circuit simulation results as well as experimental results in which each unbalanced cell is equalized with this cell balancer. The maximum power transfer efficiency of the investigated cell balancer was 87.5% from the experimental results. In addition to the experimental and analytical results, this paper presents the performance of this symmetric active cell-balancing method.

A new interleaved forward converter, adopting series-input parallel-output structure with a common transformer reset circuit, is proposed in this paper. Series-input structure distributes the voltage stress on switches, which makes it suitable for high input voltage application. Paralleling output stage with an interleaving technique enables the circuit handle large output current and reduces filter size. In addition, since two forward converters share one active-clamp circuit for the transformer reset, its primary structure is simplified. All these features make the proposed converter promising for high input voltage applications with high efficiency and simple structure.
