The present study approached the characteristics of various space compositions in contemporary residential architecture through the concept of ex-formality, and found that ex-formal spaces are composed through the variation of floor, wall, ceiling or roof and derived four types of ex-formal space composition - ex-cubic space composition using folding, plastic space composition using the plasticity of concrete, atypical space composition using geometric manipulation, and non linear space composition using digital technology. Based on this, additionally, we derived elements expressing the characteristics of ex-formal space composition, which are obliqueness, inclination, flexibility in ex-cubic space composition using folding, plasticity and fluidity in plastic space composition using the plasticity of concrete, ex-construction, dynamism and asymmetry in atypical space composition using geometric manipulation, and flexibility, fluidity, self similarity and plasticity in non linear space composition using digital technology. On the other hand, this study purposed to help understand various space expression patterns of contemporary residential architecture by analyzing how these types of ex-formal space composition and polysemous expression characteristics have been represented in contemporary residential architecture since the 1990s.

The main objective of this study is to analyze setback patterns of the super-highrise residential buildings in respect to the formal variations of the floor plans. Along with the illumination of the definition of setback, the early part of the paper attempts to establish criteria for the analysis of the setback cases. The research of 38 setback floor plans as well as the typical floor plans of 17 super-highrise buildings carried out through analysis criterions under three categories; physical features, primary causes, and formal types of setback. The result shows a method of evaluating setbacks and setback's potentials in designing the super-highrise buildings for the variation of building form, size, and type.
Component-based software engineering (CBSE) composes reusable components and develops applications with the components. CBSE is admitted to be a new paradigm that reduces the costs and times to develop software systems. The high quality of component designs can be assured if the consistency and correctness among the elements of a component are verified with formal specifications. Current formal languages for components include only some parts of contracts between interfaces, structural aspects and behavioral aspects of component, component-based system, component composition and variability. Therefore, it is not adequate to use current formal languages in all steps of a component design process. In this paper, we suggest a formal language to specify component designs Component-Z. Component-Z extends Object-Z, adds new notations to specify components. It can be possible to specify interfaces, the inner structure of a component, inner workflows, and workflows among interfaces with Component-Z. In addition, Component-Z provides the notations and semantics to specify variability with variation points, variants and required interfaces. The relation between interfaces and components is defined with mapping schemas. Parallel operator is used to specify component composition. It can be possible to describe deployed components with the specifications of component-based systems. Therefore, the formal specification language proposed in this paper can represent all elements to design components. In the case study, we specify an account management system in a bank so that we show that Component-Z can be used in all steps of component design.
The methodological framework of the Level 2 PSA appears to be currently standardized in a formalized fashion, but there have been different opinions on the way the sources of uncertainty are characterized and treated. This is primarily because the Level 2 PSA deals with complex phenomenological processes that are deterministic in nature rather than random processes, and there are no probabilistic models characterizing them clearly. As a result, the probabilistic quantification of the Level 2 PSA CET / APET is often subjected to two sources of uncertainty: (a) incomplete modeling of accident pathways or different predictions for the behavior of phenomenological events and (b) expert-to-expert variation in estimating the occurrence probability of phenomenological events. While a clear definition of the two sources of uncertainty involved in the Level 2 PSA makes it possible to treat an uncertainty in a consistent manner, careless application of these different sources of uncertainty may produce different conclusions in the decision-making process. The primary purpose of this paper is to characterize typical sources of uncertainty that would often be addressed in the Level 2 PSA and to provide a formal guidance for quantifying their impacts on the PSA Level 2 risk results. An additional purpose of this paper is to give a formal approach on how to combine random uncertainties addressed in the Level 1 PSA with subjectivistic uncertainties addressed in the Level 2 PSA.
This research is a study of fashion design that applied formative features of formal beauty of architecture into clothing design; we focused on Gaudi's architectural style as well as Art Nouveau style that became popular from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. We noted that in general the simple and flat features of cloth impose a limitation on the expression of formal features in clothing design, but a unique diversity of designs can be achieved, evoking a sense of freshness by an ideal combination of flat patterns and draping. The aim of this research is to present a possibility of extending the sphere of design expression by creating three-dimensional clothes with pattern-cutting skills and applications of three-dimensional patterns as well as flat patterns found in Gaudi's works of architecture that are distinguished in curvaceousness and formal beauty. As for the research method, we reviewed previous studies by making a close review of books, papers, the pictures and web sites related to this topic. We made our clothes on the basis of this theoretical consideration. We found the following points. First, by presenting a work of fashion inspired by architectural designs, we realized that formal beauty in architect can become a motive for clothing design in a broad scale by noting the formal images, decoration details, and formative features of architectural works. Second, the characteristic lines of Gaudi's architecture are suitable to be adapted for expressing the detailed lines of decoration in clothes. Third, we can express formative beauty in clothes by highlighting the variation of shapes and lines through various attempts of change in background pattern, even though there is a limitation in the availability of cloth material because we must choose pieces of cloth with right texture and thickness that can be cut and sewn appropriately to express formative beauty. Fourth, we confirmed that it was possible to create unique formative designs by a creative application of both flat and three-dimensional cutting.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the transformed fashion design based on the principles of visual design. Wucius Wong classified the kinds of transformation techniques as internal variation, external variation, extension, superimposition, transfiguration, dislocation, and distortion, which create and modify the shape. And the kinds of shape grammar for transformation are rule deletion, rule addition, and rule transformation, which are applied to interpretate for the change of wearing, the specialization & development of clothes, and the avant-garde styles in subculture groups. The formative meanings of the transformed fashion design are multi-transformation with complexity, formal beauty pretending confusion, and the basis for new trend.
Background: Socioeconomic factors are associated with screening in terms of reducing the risk of cervical cancer. This study aimed to clearly establish the effect of screening on variation in socio-economic factor-specific survival estimates. Materials and Methods: Survival estimates were calculated using the life table method for 165 women from the routine care control arm and 67 from the visual inspection with acetic acid screening arm diagnosed with cervical cancer during 2000-2006 in rural south India. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were plotted to compare the variation in survival by socioeconomic factors. Results: Whereas there was a significant variation in survival estimates of the different categories of age at diagnosis among the screen-detected cancers with women aged<50 years having an improved survival, no significant variation was noted among women diagnosed with cervical cancer from the control arm. Compared to the variation among the cancer cases detected in the unscreened control group, screening widened the variation in survival estimates by age and type of house, and reduced the variation by education. The direction of the magnitude of the survival estimates was reversed within the different categories of occupation, marital status and household income in the screen-detected cancer cases compared to control group cancer cases. Also, women diagnosed with stage 1 disease had a very good survival. Conclusions: Screening changed the pattern of survival by socio-economic factors. We found improved survival rates in screened women aged <50 years, with no formal education, manual workers and married women.

The product rate variation problem, to be called the PRVP, is to sequence different type units that minimizes the maximum value of a deviation function between ideal and actual rates. The PRVP is an important scheduling problem that arises on mixed-model assembly lines. A surge of research has examined very interesting methods for the PRVP. We believe, however, that several issues are still open with respect to this problem. In this study, we consider convex bipartite graphs, perfect matchings, permanents and balanced sequences. The ultimate objective of this study is to show that we can provide a more efficient and in-depth procedure with a graph theoretic approach in order to solve the PRVP. To achieve this goal, we propose formal alternative proofs for some of the results stated in the previous studies, and establish several new results.

The world wide increase of obesity and demands for various plus-size fashion are expanding the global plus-size fashion market. This study is to understand the market status of the US (the biggest plus-size fashion market) as well as analyze women's fashion shown in power blogs on the plus-size fashion trend. For research methods, photos from the top 10 globally ranked plus-size power blogs on Alexa.com were collected and divided into 5 plus-size body types based on: design factors, style, color, item, and texture. Pants with tops or completed outfits including pants, tops, and outer were the most common for casual styles; in addition, a tendency to pursue comfortable and naturally fitted clothes was also indicated. As for colors, the most common were blue colors and white or pastel toned colors; in addition, soft, hard, and transparent were all evenly used for materials. One-piece items were the most popular formal style that were mostly a one-tone color made with hard materials indicated by the pursuit of the fanciness and formality of a dress for a formal occasion. Black was the most common color, and the color variation was less diverse compared to that of casual styles. The most common for semi-formal styles were outfits with movability and more fanciness such as wearing a casual outer on top of a formal one-piece. When examining the fashion in plus-size blogs, there are differences in the frequency of design factors due to the diversity of body-types; in addition, different items were shown to be preferred in accordance with styles. The results of this study will help fashion companies who want to enter the global plus-size women's fashion market (including the US market); in addition, research on plus-size fashion that is changing the fashion and aesthetic paradigm is expected to contribute to academia.

Heat trnasfer for absorbing and emitting media in laminar layer along the cylinders has been analyzed. Governing equation are transformed to local nonsimilarity equations by the dimensional analysis. The effects of the Stark number, Prandtl number, Optical radius and wall emissivity are mainly investigated. For the formal solution a numerical integration is performed and the results are compared with those obtained by P-1 and P-3 approximation. The results show that boundary layers consist of conduction-convection-radiation layer near the wall and convection-radiation layer far from the wall. As the Stark number of wall emissivity increases the local radiative heat flux is increased. The Pradtl number or curvature variations do not affect the radiative heat flux from the wall, but The Prandtl number or wall emissivity variations affect the conduction heat flux. Consequently the total heat flux from the wall are affected by the Prandtl number or wall emissivity variation.
