  • This paper investigated stretchability with fabric mechanical properties of one-way and two-way stretch fabrics. For this purpose, 1-way and 2-way woven fabrics were prepared using 150d PET/spandex covered yarns with different thermal treatment according to 4 kinds of wet thermal machines subsequently, fabric mechanical properties were measured and compared with regular PET fabrics. In addition, the garment formability of stretch fabrics was predicted and compared to regular fabrics according to wet thermal treatment. The weft stretchability of 2-way stretch fabric was about 10% higher than the 1-way stretch fabric. The compressibility of the stretch fabrics was 1.5 times higher than regular fabrics. The compressibility of stretch fabrics treated with CPB and rope type wet thermal machine showed higher values than other types of wet thermal machines. The bending rigidity of 2-way stretch fabric was lower than 1-way stretch fabric. Shear rigidity of 2-way stretch fabric was higher than 1-way and regular fabrics. Garment formability of 2-way stretch fabric was higher than regular and one-way stretch fabrics. Garment formability of 2-way stretch fabrics treated with wet thermal conditions under low tension showed the highest values.

  • We report on the feasibility of producing 6xxx series Al alloy sheets using a combination of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al alloy sheets produced in this study exhibited an excellent formability ($\bar{r}=1.2$, ${\Delta}r=0.17$) and mechanical properties (${\sigma}_{TS}{\sim}260MPa$, ${\varepsilon}>30%$), which cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and conventional rolling. The enhanced formability as evaluated in terms of $\bar{r}$ and ${\Delta}r$ was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. The evaluation of the formability leads us to conclude that the combined technique based on strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to a level beyond which the conventional technique can reach.

  • This study describes the feasibility of producing high-strength Al alloy sheet with a high solute content using a combined technique of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al sheet produced in this study exhibited excellent formability ($\overline{r}$ =1.0, $\Delta$r=0.16) and mechanical properties ($\sigma_{TS}$~305 MPa, $\epsilon$~33%), that, cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and rolling. The structural origin of the observed properties, especially enhanced formability, was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. Our evaluation of the mechanical properties and formability leads us to conclude that the combination of strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to the level beyond what the conventional techniques can reach.

  • The field of sheet metal forming using press technology has become essential in modern mass production systems. Draw bead is often used to enhance formability. However, optimal draw bead design often requires excessive time and cost due to iterative experimentation and sometimes results in some defects. Given these challenges, there is a need to enhance formability by introducing segmented blank holders without draw beads. In this paper, the feasibility of a localized holding strategy using segmented blank holders is evaluated without the use of draw beads. The possibility for improving the formability was evaluated by utilizing a combination of the forming limit diagram and the wrinkle pattern-based defect indicators. Artificial neural networks were used for predicting defect indicators corresponding to arbitrary input holding forces and the NSGA-II optimization algorithm is used to find optimum blank holder forces yielding better defect indicators than the original process with drawbeads. Using optimum holding forces obtained from the proposed procedure, the stamping process with the segmented blank holders can yield better formability than the conventional process with drawbeads.

  • Continuous wave CO$_{2}$laser beam welding and formability of zinc coated steel shets were investigated. First, optimal welding condition could be obtained in but welding by using the data for heat input and welding velocity. The highest value of Erichsen test is 79.3% compare to that of base matel. Secondly, Formability of laser welds was investigated by using ball punch tester. Finally, the forming results of butt-welded sheets showed that the joing design was important to apply the laser welded blank in the automotive production.

  • In this study, the formability of laser welded blanks were investigated through tesile test and formability test. Several samples which had the various thickness were joined by laser welding. Mechanical properties of laser welded blank measured from the tensile test are higher than those of the base metal. Fomability is lower than that of the base metal.

  • Magnesium alloys still have a lot of technical challenges to be solved for more applications. There have been many research activities to enhance formability of magnesium alloys. One is to design new alloy composition having better formability. Also, low formability of wrought alloys can be improved by optimizing the processing variables. In the present study, effect of process variables such as forging temperature and forging speed were investigated to forgeability of three different magnesium alloys such as AZ31, AZ61 and ZK60. To understand the effect of process variables more specifically, both numerical and experimental works have been carried out on the model which contains both upsetting and extrusion geometries. Forgeability of magnesium alloys was found to depend more on the forging speed rather than temperature. Forged sample showed a significant activity of twinning, which was found to be closely related with flow uniformity.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of annealing treatment on cold formability of magnesium alloy sheet AZ31. The AZ31 sheets with three different thickness (1.0t, 1.6t, 2.0t) were annealed at three different temperatures ($345^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$). The mechanical properties and microstructure evolution of the annealed AZ31 were examined as well as limit dome height (LDH) and compared with those of as received one. The cold formability was enhanced but the strength was deteriorated by the annealing treatment.

  • A simple simulative test was developed to evaluate stamping formability in plane strain stretching mode. The stamping formability was evaluated by limit punch height(LPH) in plane strain punch stretching test(PSST) compared to limit dome height(LDH) in hemispherical punch stretching test. PSST shows stable plane strain condition and good reproducibility with minimum scatter. Moreover LPH-value in PSST well ranks the stamping formability of various material and correlates with press performance.
