Form Error Analysis of a Cam Disk Profile Based on ISO Minimum Zone Criterion (ISO 최소영역법에 기준한 캠 디스크의 형상 오차 해석)

  • In an effort to reduce the evaluation time of the precision of manufactured disk cams, an effective measuring method with an exclusively built profile-measuring machine and subsequent data analysis procedure is proposed. The design and measuring data are interpolated by cubic spline curves to compute the precision error which is defined by the maximum and minimum distances between two curves. The minimum zone criterion of ISO is employed to evaluate the form error, and genetic algorithm is used to search the orientation and location of design data for the measured data which minimizes the form error. The proposed system was applied to marine engine cams, and it shows that the form error is reduced to 30% down compared with the method which minimizes the form error with the assumption that the centers of measured data design cam curve are identical.

Optimal Cutting Condition in Side Wall Milling Considering Form Accuracy (측벽 엔드밀 가공에서 형상 정밀도를 고려한 최적 절삭 조건)

  • In this paper, optimal cutting condition to minimize the form error in side wall machining with a flat end mill is studied. Cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering surface shape generated by the previous cutting such as roughing. Using the form error prediction method from tool deflection, optimal cutting condition considering form accuracy is investigated. Also, the effects of tool teeth number, tool geometry and cutting conditions on form error are analyzed. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up and down milling are discussed and over-cut free condition in up milling is presented. Form error reduction method through successive up and down milling is also suggested. The effectiveness and usefulness of the presented method are verified from a series of cutting experiments under various cutting conditions. It is confirmed that form error prediction from tool deflection in side wall machining can be used in optimal cutting condition selection and real time surface error simulation for CAD/CAM systems. This study also contributes to cutting process optimization for the improvement of form accuracy especially in precision die and mold manufacturing.

  • A method for form error prediction in side wall machining with a flat end mill is suggested. Form error is predicted directly from the tool deflection without surface generation by cutting edge locus with time simulation. Developed model can predict the surface form error about three hundred times faster than the previous method. Cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering tool geometry, tool setting error and machine tool stiffness. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up milling and down milling are discussed. The usefulness of the presented method is verified from a set of experiments under various cutting conditions generally used in die and mold manufacturing. This study contributes to real time surface shape estimation and cutting process planning for the improvement of form accuracy.

  • Aspherical lens with the higher numerical aperture has been needed in the optical storage device to increase the recording density on the disk. However, high numerical aperture means the large slope angle at the clear aperture of the lens. Therefore, the measurement and manufacturing technique including the lens molding process for the slope angle should be developed. In this paper, the evaluation technique was described for the optical performance of the aspherical lens. Aspherical form error brings about the wavefront error and the side lobe of the beam intensity profile. A schematic diagram of the aspherical lens manufacturing was drawn to explain the aspherical form error compensation. Finally, form error of the aspherical lens was defined and plotted using the raw data of the Formtalysurf.

Generalised Non Error-Accumulative Quantisation Algorithm with feedback loop

  • This paper presents a new quantisation algorithm which has the closed-loop form and guarantees the boundness of accumulative error. This algorithm is particularly useful for mobile robot navigation that is usually implemented on embedded systems. If wheel commands of the mobile robot are given by velocity or positional increment at every control instant and quantised due to finite word length of controller's CPU, the quantisation error gets accumulated to causes large position error. Such an error accumulative characteristic is fatal for non wheeled mobile robots or autonomous vehicles with non-holonomic constraint. To solve this problem, we propose a non-error accumulative quantisation algorithm with closed-loop form. We also show it can be extend to a generalized form corresponding to the n-th order accumulation. The boundness of the accumulative quantisation error is investigated by a series of computer simulation. The proposed method is particularly effective to precise navigation control the autonomous mobile robots.

  • An analysis method which calculates corrective machining information for improving the motion accuracy of linear motion guide Is proposed in this paper. The method is composed of two algorithms. One is the algorithm fur prediction of the motion errors from rail form error. The other is the algorithm for prediction of rail form error from the motion errors of table. Transfer function is utilized in each algorithm, which represents the ratio of bearing reaction force variation to unit magnitude of spatial frequencies of raid from error. As the corrective machining information is acquired from the measured motion errors of table, the method has a merit not to measure rail form error directly. Validity of the method is verified both theoretically and experimentally. By applying the method, linear motion error of test equipment is reduced from 5.97$\mu$m to 0.58$\mu$m, and reduced from 32.78arcsec to 6.21 arcsec in case of angular motion error. From the results, it is confirmed that the method is very effective to improve the motion accuracy of linear motion guide.

  • Accuracy of a machined component is determined by the relative motion between the cutting tool and the workpiece. One of the important factors which affects the accuracy of this relative motion is the geometric error of machine tools. In this study, geometric error is modeled using form shaping motion of machine tool, where a form shaping function is derived from the homogeneous transformation matrix. Geometric errors are measured by laser interferometer. After that, the local positioning error can be estimated from the form shaping model and geometric error data base. From this information, we can remodel the part by shifting the design surface to the amount of positional error. By generating tool path to the redesigned surface, we can reduce the machining error.

  • In this paper, we propose sufficient conditions under which nonlinear systems can be transformed into nonlinear observer canonical form in the extended state space by virtue of dynamic system extension. The proposed scheme weakens two major restrictions of observer error linearization technique. Once a nonlinear system is transformed into nonlinear observer canonical form using dynamic system extension, a state observer can be easily designed. Two illustrative examples are included in order to compare the proposed scheme and observer error linearization method.

  • Machining information such as machined form and surface roughness accuracy is an important factor for manufacturing precise parts. To this regard, OMM(On the Machine Measurement) has been issued for last several decades to alternate with CMM. In this research, measuring system consisting of a laser probe is developed for machined form and surface roughness measurement on the machine tool. The obtained machined form accuracy is compared with reference one defined in CAD model. The measured surface roughness data is compared with measured master surface beforehand. Furthermore, using the pre-defined volumetric error map approach compensates the geometric accuracy of the machine tool. The overall performance is compared with CMM, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.
