Most of them seek information through the internet. Research scholars used electronic resources such as databases, e-journals and e-theses and dissertations. 88.6% of the respondents also use books for seeking information. Their use of the library is limited with complaints about library staff and too few computer terminals. The present study will be helpful in designing new systems and services for the foreign students so that their information needs can be fulfilled easily. • Korean university libraries are increasing their library collection each year according to the standard set by the Ministry of Education. The standard states that all the university libraries are required to keep 3 books for newly enrolling students, 30 books for each enrolled student and 5, 000 books for each department. The increasing number of the university library collection brings many problems in the libraries. 1. The size of the library collection is not related to the satisfaction of the library user's requests. The satisfaction is usually related to number of the new publications received in the library. Z. The Korean publication is limited to a small number. It could not meet the university standard. Therefore, the number is filled with the foreign publications. But the use of them is not frequent. Even the number of the domestic and foreign new publications together could not meet all the requests of the university library users. Only cooperation with other libraries will be able to meet most of the diversified requests. 3. Most of the present library collection are not likely to be used in the future and they should be eventually discarded. Present library administration put too much emphasis on the size of library collection and only the aquisition of the material is main concern of the university librarians. They need to consider other factors in the aquistion of the library collection. They should make their collection development in accordance with user's requests in addition to meet the university standard.

  • This study has examined the cause of the library anxiety among foreign students upon visiting college libraries. 131 students were investigated using Library Anxiety Scale (LAS) to analyze the relationship between sex, grade, library use education, frequency of library use, Korean skill and cultural heterogeneity. The result of the LAS showed an average of 2.60 among foreign students, and the anxiety from the "mechanical barrier" was scored the highest. For sex, male students tended to be relatively more anxious than female students on the "accommodation of library" and "knowledge of library." Students who participated in the library use education were less anxious than those who did not, and the more one used library, the less one became anxious. Based on these results, the study proposes the way ahead for resolving library anxiety through library use education and frequency of use.

  • This research was based on the investigation of the awarenesses of librarians of issues regarding the privacy of the users of school libraries. It sought to determine if, by raising the issue of the importance of the need for the protection of the personal information of the users of the school libraries, and the implications of not paying attention to the rules in effect, the awareness regarding the privacy of the users of school libraries would be improved. For this, previous research related to the privacy of the students, the legal basis for the protection of the privacy of the domestic and foreign students, and the types of the infringements upon the protection of their personal information were investigated. A survey was conducted to measure the awareness of issues related to the privacy of the users of the library. The research showed the results as follows: First, the awarenesses regarding the privacy of the users of the school libraries appeared low, and low recognition was also found regarding the awareness of the cases of the infringements upon the privacy of the users of the school libraries; regarding the awareness in relation to the protection of privacy; regarding the seriousness of the privacy problems of the users; and regarding the factors that can encroach upon the privacy of the users. Second, regarding the seriousness felt when the library records of the users of the school libraries are leaked to the outside, 41.6% of the respondents responded by saying "It is serious", and 18.4% responded by saying "It is not serious". Third, as a result of investigating the awareness regarding whether the consent of the person concerned is needed in case a third party requests access to reading the records in the library, 68.5% of the respondent responded "It is needed", and only 10.4% responded "It is not needed". Last, in the investigation into whether the respondents had the experience of being educated as to the rules related to the privacy of the users at a school or an external organization, over 80% of the respondents answered that they did not receive it.

  • The domestic and foreign standards of school libraries suggest that school library should be run to give useful and pleasant experiences to students. This study applies Csikszentmihalyi's 'flow theory' to analyze the relationships between students' flow experience and their satisfaction about school libraries use. The variables selected in this study are students' satisfaction, flow experience, library skill, challenge of library use, types of library use and students' learning styles. The research model is designed by using these 6 variables in this study. The data are collected from 293 students and analyzed by structural equation modeling. The results of this study are as follows: The entire casual relationships show that library skills influence in types of library use, types of library use affect students' learning styles and students' learning styles influence in satisfaction through flow. To improve students' satisfaction about school library use, this study proposes effective ways related to teacher librarians' role performances to expand students' flow experience and increase their library skills.
